Maeve’s POV. I woke up to my phone buzzing on the table. The sound cut through my sleep fast, sharp enough that my body reacted before my mind did. My eyes opened immediately, heart jumping, muscles tight like I’d already decided something was wrong. Not an alarm. A message. For a second, I just lay there staring at the ceiling, letting the buzzing continue. My chest rose and fell slowly as I waited for the familiar rush of dread to settle. It had been doing that a lot lately. Showing up before I even knew why. When I finally reached for the phone, my fingers felt stiff. For a second, my body tensed the way it had the night before, every muscle ready for bad news. Then I saw the name and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, the tension easing just enough to stop my shoulder
