Chapter 1: (snippet 3)

Present Day 

Jade’s P.O.V.

“Get up Jade, it’s time for school.” I heard Micah yell into the room.

I huffed and rolled my eyes as I got myself out of the bed.

I don’t even know why I’m going. I already know that after today, this s**t won’t even matter. I looked at my family dollar phone and noticed the date.

“Shit.” I whispered before I rolled my eyes towards the ceiling.

Tomorrow will be my 18th birthday and I know that will be the day that s**t will hit the f*****g fan!

I have always hated my birthday. It meant that every year that passed…I was getting closer to losing my freedom.

Luna Victoria made sure that I understood my role in this pack and if I ever defied her, she’d kill me herself.

She was a ruthless and heartless Luna that I wished would die a miserable and horrible death. But of course, she was still around and thriving.

She told me that my parents died when I was born, and she considered me to be a worthless piece of space. However, I needed to prove myself to the pack, so on my 18th birthday, I’d be the new breeder.

I sighed in defeat and walked to the community bathroom.

I was so happy to see that it was empty, and I could take a quick shower before I left.

I quickly jumped in and turned the water on high so I could try to wash away some of my worries.

I know that may sound dumb, but a good hot shower can melt almost all of your problems away.

“Jade! Come on. You’re going to make us both be late for school.” I heard Micah yell through the door.

“I’m coming. Damn!” I yelled back.

“Hey! Watch your mouth, Jade!” I heard madam yell from behind the door.

“Sorry, Madam Tess.” I groaned.

I turned off the water and dried my body off quickly. I knew that I didn’t have much time before school started so I had to hurry up.

I didn’t want the punishment that came along with being late to Royal Heights High.

I scuffed at the mere thought of school. I hated it there and the only reason why I’m still going is to prove that I’m not as worthless as the pack tries to make me seem.

But I guess, it really doesn’t matter because tomorrow I’ll start my “chosen” journey…being a real-life concubine and baby maker.

I finished getting dressed and threw my hair in a ponytail. I applied a little gloss to my lips and headed down the stairs.

I made my way to the kitchen to find a very upset Madam Tess waiting for me.

“Jade, I don’t want you to be late for school. You need to take this granola bar and eat it on your way there.”

I furrowed my brows. “But I’m starving!”

“And you should have thought about that before you decided to wake up thirty minutes before the first school bell. Now I don’t have time to argue with you. You need to get going.”

I sighed and nodded.

I gave her a hug and kissed her cheek as I made my way out of the house.

Madam Tess has been like a mother to me for as long as I could remember. She really did care for me at this orphanage even when every other pack member turned their backs on me as a baby.

No one wants a breeder as a daughter.

And being that their awesomely f****d up Luna declared that I was to become one, everyone treated me as if I were trash.

If I could run a way. I would.
