Leah impatiently waited the entire day to pass and the night to arrive. She kept staring at the window, watching the sky slowly change colors, wishing it would just hurry up and get dark already.
Though she ate without complaining and took her medicine on time like she was told, her mind was made up and she was going to escape this place tonight. She didn’t have to sit and think too long to reach that decision, because how could she stay here with a random man she didn’t even know?
He captured her and was now treating her kindly but Leah knew that her wasn’t any better than Ander or Marcus. In fact, he felt even scarier than them. At least they didn’t hide how demonic they were. But this guy? He looked all soft and angelic on the outside, but something about him gave her chills.
Every time he looked at her, it felt like he could see right through her, like he knew everything. That look shook her to the core every single time.
Besides, he didn’t even believe her at the beginning. He didn’t even give her a chance to explain. He hurt her without thinking twice, and let someone beat so brutally that she could still feel the pain. And now, all of a sudden, he was acting all kind and generous like nothing happened?
Leah’s eyes filled with tears just thinking about it. She knew those kind gestures were fake. She had lived a miserable life, and one thing she had learned was that in this cruel world, no one helped others unless they got something in return. Especially men. To them, women were just objects. Something to use, something to trade, something to torture. She had no guarantee that this exact man, the one being so nice now, wouldn’t turn around and sell her or force himself on her later.
She had trusted men before. And she suffered because of it. She had paid a heavy price, and it broke her in ways no one could undo. She wasn’t going to go through that again. No matter what happened, no matter how hard it was, Leah was determined to escape this place tonight. By any means necessary.
When night finally came, Leah ate her dinner without causing any fuss. She didn’t say anything or do anything that would make the maid suspicious. She just acted calm, even though her heart was beating fast the whole time.
After the meal, the maid who was in charge of her came into the room and handed her the usual medicines.
"Goodnight," the maid said softly before leaving the room and closing the door behind her.
Leah stood still until she heard the footsteps disappear down the hallway. Then, without wasting a second, she walked to the window, opened it just a little, and threw all the medicines outside. She wasn’t planning on getting sleepy or drowsy tonight.
After that, she went back to her bed and lay down, pretending to sleep. She kept her breathing slow and steady. Her eyes were closed, but her ears were alert. She listened to every little sound, waiting for the perfect time.
When the night got deeper and everything felt quiet, Leah slowly opened her eyes. The room was dark except for the faint light coming from the hallway through the bottom crack of the door. She quietly slipped out of the bed and placed her feet gently on the floor, careful not to make a sound. Then she crept toward the door, opened it slowly, and peeked outside.
Once she stepped into the hallway, Leah froze for a second. She hadn’t seen this place properly before because she was unconscious when they brought her here.
The hallway was long and wide, and the lights were so dim it was hard to see anything clearly. But what she could see was enough to tell her that the mansion was huge and expensive-looking.
However, the pin-drop silence around her made her feel a little braver. It felt like everyone was asleep, and that gave her hope. She tiptoed down the hall, trying her best not to let her feet make any sound against the cold floor. When she reached the stairs, she held onto the railing and carefully walked down. Her hands were sweaty from how nervous she felt, but she forced herself to keep going.
Once she reached downstairs, she quickly looked around and saw the main entrance straight ahead. Her eyes lit up with hope, and she rushed to it. When she got there, she found the door was locked from the inside, but to her surprise, it wasn’t anything complicated. Just a regular, simple lock.
Leah actually giggled a little when she saw it.
"Seriously?" She whispered to herself, shaking her head. She then turned the key that was already attached to the lock, and it clicked open without making a single sound. Her chest filled with relief, and she slowly pushed the door open.
But the moment she opened it—
WEEOOO!!! WEEOOO!!! WEEOOO!!!
A loud siren exploded out of nowhere. Bright white lights suddenly filled the whole place, blinding her for a second.
Leah froze right there, too shocked to even move. Her heart felt like it had stopped beating. The horrible sound of the siren was still ringing in her ears, making it hard to think. She didn’t know whether to run back to her room or just dash outside into the unknown.
Before she could choose anything, she heard fast footsteps and then guards appeared out of nowhere. Big men in black surrounded her from every direction. Leah’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped open as she slowly realized that it was over. All her hopes shattered like glass.
'Ahh... How could I forget that there is obviously security...' she thought with a groan, dropping her head in defeat.
But then she heard heavy, powerful footsteps coming closer. Something about the sound made her chest tighten. She slowly lifted her head, and her eyes met a pair of piercing green eyes that were now burning with pure rage.
Leah’s whole body went stiff when she saw the way he was staring at her. His eyes looked like they could burn her alive. There was no softness, no kindness, just pure anger and coldness.
Her heart dropped to her stomach, and for a second, she honestly thought he was going to kill her right there without any mercy. She didn’t even dare to move or breathe too loudly.
"Take her back to her room," Damian ordered the guards in a voice that was so cold it gave her goosebumps. But even though he spoke to them, his eyes never left her face.
"What... No... I don’t want to stay here! Let me go, please," Leah suddenly cried out, her voice full of panic and fear. But it was already too late. Two of the guards stepped forward and grabbed her arms tightly.
"Please, no... Let me leave... I don’t want to live here..." She begged, tears already sliding down her cheeks as she looked straight at Damian, hoping for him to change his mind.
But he didn’t say anything else. He just kept staring at her, jaw clenched so hard it looked like he might break his own teeth.
Leah started struggling in their grip, twisting and turning her body, trying to get free.
"Let me go... Please..." she yelled. But the more she moved, the tighter the guards held her. Their grip got stronger, and it hurt. Leah whimpered in pain, but they didn’t care.
"What are you waiting for? Take her to the room," Damian suddenly shouted, his voice echoing through the entire mansion.
Without another second, the guards dragged her toward the stairs. Leah’s cries and screams filled the mansion as they pulled her up step by step.
"No... Let me go... I don’t wanna go back..." She kept screaming, but no one listened. They brought her straight into the room and tossed her onto the bed like she was nothing.
Leah landed hard in the center of the bed. She laid on her stomach, her weak body shaking from all the crying and struggling. Her hands clutched the bedsheets tightly, and she cried harder than before. Her whole heart ached because she had really believed, even for a short moment, that she could be free. That she could run away and never come back here. But now she was back in her ultimate misery.
Her sobs filled the room, her chest rising and falling as she tried to catch her breath. But then, she heard those same heavy footsteps again. Slow, loud, and terrifying. They were getting closer.
Her tears stopped for a moment, and she gritted her teeth, forcing herself to stop crying.
