“Average depth out at Charlie Two is forty to forty-five feet. We put two come-homes over the side and had the safety divers check the area, while EOD Chief Warren went over the course objectives and assigned obstacles to be cleared. Before we got any of the students over the side, one of the safety divers reported a big shark patrolling the area. We’ve seen some fair-size bull sharks out there before, but he said this was something different—a big dude, maybe seven or eight feet and acting aggressive. The safety divers locked up back-to-back in accordance with the drill. We ordered them to the surface just to be on the safe side and planned on moving the exercise to Alpha Four, which also has the kind of underwater obstacles required for the training evolutions.
