Logan’s been gone for a while and my phone rings. I look and see that it’s Ashton. “Hello?” I ask as I answer. “Lori, honey, I need you to make sure you’re ready to go. Nick is bringing Izzy to get you and Alice. Something’s happened.” He tells me. “What’s wrong?” I ask, thinking that it’s something to do with Mary. “Honey, Logan’s been shot. He’s on the way to the hospital now.” He tells me and I freeze and drop my phone. Alice picks it up and when Ashton fills her in, she helps me get my shoes on and Izzy walks in to help me to the car. We drive to the hospital with me being in a daze.
We walk into the hospital and Izzy says “We’re here for Logan Edwards. Can you tell us where to go?” she asks. “And you are?” the receptionist asks. “I’m his wife.” I say softly. “Looks like he’s in surgery. I’ll take you to the waiting room.” She tells us and leads us to the waiting room. As soon as we walk in, I see Evan and Mary there as well as Ashton. I look at Ashton and ask, “What happened?” He leads me to a chair to sit down and asks, “Do you know anything about that custody case he was working on?” I look at him confused and ask, “The one he asked you about the mom and son staying at the mission?” He nods. “What about it?” I ask. “The client’s ex came into his office. Didn’t say anything before he shot Logan. He took a shot to the stomach and one to the shoulder.” He tells me and I stand up and rush to the trash can, getting sick. Alice is right behind me, holding my hair back and rubbing my back. When I get myself together, Izzy hands me a bottle of water and I take a couple of sips. They lead me back to one of the chairs and I put my hand on my stomach and just stare off into space.
Three hours later, a doctor comes into the waiting room. “Logan Edwards’ family?” he asks, and we all stand up. “I’m his wife.” I say. “Your husband took a shot to the stomach and one to the shoulder. The shoulder was an easy fix. Once he starts healing, we can assess the next steps to make sure there’s no nerve damage.” He tells me. “The other shot?” Ashton asks. “That one was a little more difficult. It knicked his kidney but it was repairable. He will have to be on dialysis for about a week to make sure it’s working properly. But the bullet lodged into his spleen, so we removed that. Once we make sure his kidney is okay, he should make a full recovery.” He tells me. “Thank you doctor.” Alice says and as soon as he walks away, my knees give out, but Evan catches me. Leading me to a chair, he sits me down. My hand goes to my stomach. “I almost lost him.” I say. Ashton kneels in front of me and says “Nope. Don’t even go there. That man isn’t leaving you that easily.” He tells me. “Where’s he at?” I ask and Ashton knows who I’m talking about. He leans closer so that he can whisper. “Rico has him somewhere safe until we decide what to do with him.” He tells me. “I want to see him.” I say. “No.” Ashton says. “That’s not your call Ashton. It’s mine. He’s my husband. I won’t touch him. I just want to talk to him and then you and your guys can do whatever it is that you do.” I tell him. I look at Alice and she says, “I’ll be here if he wakes up.” I look at Ashton and he says, “Let’s go.” Evan speaks up and says, “I’m with you.” And he kisses Mary’s cheek and says “I’ll be back soon. Stay with Alice and Izzy please.” She nods her agreement, and we head out the door.
We pull up to a warehouse and as soon as we walk in, Rico walks up and sees me with them. “Lori?” he asks. “I need to speak to our new friend.” I tell him and I’ve gone from stunned to pissed off. He leads us to a room where he’s sitting on the floor, tied up. I see his hands are tied and so are his feet and he has a gag in. I look around the room and see a meat hook hanging. “Can we hang him up please?” I ask and Rico looks at Ashton and he nods his okay. I look at Ashton and say, “Thank you.” He nods and once they start hanging him up, Rico asks “This high enough?” I shake my head. “A little more. Let his toes barely touch the floor.” I say and Rico smirks before doing what I ask. Once he’s secured, I walk over and ask, “Do you know who I am?” The man shakes his head no. “Then let me tell you. The man you shot today. That’s my husband. Father of my unborn child.” I say as I put my hand on my stomach. “You shot my husband. Now, see, you’re a father. I’ve met your son. Such a sweet kid. Your ex? She’s a great mom. But you? See, I heard you were trying to sell your son. I believe you also said you would rent him out if it got you some money.” I say and he looks at me shocked. “Oh, you really don’t remember me, do you?” He quickly shakes his head no. “You knew my father. Michael Carter. His buddy Jake?” I ask and he looks at me even more shocked. “That’s right. You remember me now, don’t you?” I ask and he nods his head yes. “So, you remember asking my dad how much he would charge for you to “hit that” was how I believe you said it.” I say and he lowers his head. “Don’t lower your head. You f*****g look at me.” I say and he looks up at me. “You look at the woman that you groped when my dad wasn’t looking. You look at the woman that you said you wanted to cut up while you f****d her. You look at the woman who gets to decide your fate.” I tell him and I’m seething. Ashton walks up and asks, “What do you want us to do with him?” I don’t look away from the man and say “Cut his d**k off and shove it down his throat. Then bury him alive.” I say before stepping away. “You heard her.” Ashton tells Rico and as we walk by, Rico stops me. When I look at him, he says “I’ll make sure he suffers.” I nod and walk away.
When we get into the car, Ashton tells me “You need to tell Logan about this and about what he did to you.” I look at him and say “I will, and I’ll let him know it’s handled. Can you let his ex know she doesn’t have to hide anymore?” I ask and he nods his head yes. As soon as we’re back at the hospital, the nurse leads me to Logan’s room, and I move to sit in the chair beside his bed and wait for my husband to wake up.
