EPISODE NINETEEN

The Gathering Storm The sun had barely risen over the horizon when Leo received a call from an unfamiliar number. His heart clenched as he answered, knowing that whatever message he was about to hear would be crucial. "Mr. Carter," the voice on the other end was low and urgent, "we need to talk. There’s a safe house outside the city. Come alone, and bring Adrian." The call ended abruptly, leaving Leo standing in the middle of the royal palace corridor, staring at his phone with growing apprehension. He had no idea who it was, but something in the tone of their voice told him that the warning Diana had given him was more urgent than ever. --- A Dangerous Game Adrian was seated in his study, his mind consumed by the details of their next steps in consolidating their power. The papers before him were a blur as Leo stepped inside, determination etched on his face. “Adrian,” Leo said, closing the door behind him. “We need to go. Now.” Adrian didn’t look up from the desk but could feel the tension in Leo’s voice. “What’s going on?” “There’s a safe house, outside the city,” Leo explained, pacing as he spoke. “Someone called, said we need to go there—bring you.” Adrian’s expression remained unreadable. "Who called?" “I don’t know. But after everything that’s happened, I think it’s someone who can help us understand what we’re up against.” Leo paused, watching Adrian closely. “I think they know more about the organization we’re dealing with—about the society.” Adrian stood, pushing his papers aside. He finally met Leo’s gaze, his eyes shadowed with uncertainty. “I won’t let anything happen to you, Leo. But you’re right. We can’t let this go any longer.” The prince was ready. Ready to face the unknown, ready to find the answers that would finally give them control over the growing chaos. --- The Safe House The journey to the safe house was long, the countryside passing by in a blur of green and brown as Leo sat beside Adrian in the back of the royal vehicle. There was a silence between them, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was the kind of silence that came with the shared understanding that something big was coming. As the vehicle pulled up to an unassuming mansion on the outskirts of the city, Leo’s instincts screamed that something wasn’t right. The house looked abandoned, tucked away behind a line of tall trees that obscured most of its features. Yet, there was something familiar about the place that unsettled him. “We’re here,” Adrian said softly, breaking the silence. Leo’s gaze shifted to the door, but just as he reached for the handle, a figure emerged from the shadows. “Mr. Carter, Your Highness,” the figure called, stepping forward. It was a woman, tall and imposing, her features sharp and defined, her eyes black as night. She wore a simple, yet well-tailored suit, and her presence carried an undeniable weight. Leo’s pulse quickened. “I’m glad you came,” she said, her tone unwavering. “My name is Helena. And I’m the one who can help you expose the society.” Leo exchanged a glance with Adrian, both men assessing the woman before them. She looked familiar, though neither of them could place her. But the moment she spoke, there was no denying the power she held. “Follow me,” Helena instructed, turning sharply without waiting for a response. The two men followed her into the house, their footsteps echoing in the dimly lit hall. --- The Unmasking Helena led them to a room deep within the mansion. It was nothing like the lavish rooms of the palace, but rather sparse, with maps and documents strewn across a long table in the center of the room. The air was thick with the scent of aged paper and the faintest hint of something metallic. She gestured for both of them to sit. “I’ve been watching you, Adrian. I know your family’s history. Your father’s mistakes, your uncle’s betrayal. I’ve seen the cracks in your kingdom long before you ever knew they existed.” Leo sat, trying to make sense of the woman's words. “What do you mean?” Helena’s lips curled into a tight smile, but there was no warmth behind it. “I’m part of the underground network that’s been monitoring the royal family’s descent for years. But the society we’re facing is not just any group of wealthy elites. It’s an ancient order that has ties to every corner of the world, including your family’s own history.” Adrian leaned forward, his interest piqued. “What does my family have to do with this?” Helena opened a folder and slid it across the table, revealing a series of old, faded photographs. “Your bloodline has been bound to the society for centuries, Adrian. Your ancestors sold their souls to them in exchange for power. And now, the debts are coming due.” Leo’s heart skipped a beat as his eyes scanned the photographs. They showed generations of royals, each with an unsettling symbol etched into their hands. A serpent intertwined with a crown. “This symbol,” Leo murmured. “It’s the same one Diana mentioned.” Helena nodded. “The society has always used your family as their puppets. And now, the time has come to collect.” Adrian’s jaw tightened. “I never asked for this.” Helena’s eyes softened for the first time. “I know. But you’ve been living under a curse, Adrian. And you, Leo... you’ve become entangled in this because of your connection to him. It’s not your fault. But now, you have a choice to make.” Leo felt his heart race. “What choice?” “You can walk away,” Helena said. “You can return to your life and forget everything. Let the society have its way and let them destroy the kingdom from within. Or you can fight back. Join us and uncover the truth about your family’s legacy. It won’t be easy. And it won’t be without sacrifices.” Adrian’s gaze hardened. “What if we choose to fight?” Helena’s expression remained unchanged. “Then you’ll be marked. The society will come for you with everything they have. And there will be no turning back.” --- The Decision Leo exchanged a long, weighted glance with Adrian. This was it. Their lives would never be the same again. The world they thought they understood had crumbled around them, revealing a darkness they weren’t prepared for. But there was no turning back now. “We fight,” Adrian said, his voice steady, filled with resolve. Leo nodded, his heart pounding. “We fight. Together.” Helena’s eyes flickered with a rare spark of approval. “Then prepare yourselves. The storm is coming. And it will test everything you believe in.” --- To Be Continued...
