AMARA POV:
The week went by quickly, to say the least.
On Wednesday, the decorations started arriving, which meant Kylie and the Luna were in a frenzy, making sure everything looked absolutely perfect.
In order to help get everything set up, Alpha decided to let anyone who is willing to help skip training and come help get everything in order. Of course, this meant almost everyone wanted to help and Kylie and I were responsible for making sure all those people weren't goofing off.
Which they were most of the time...
However, due to this, the decorations were pretty much all done as soon as they arrived. Luna Catherine, of course, had the final word on where everything went, but overall I have to say it looked really good.
Some of the higher-ranked children even got out of school while preparations were underway, much to Ruby's delight. Now she doesn't have to worry about the History Test until next week. She also liked that it meant she could spend more time with Trevor, who was more than happy to flirt with her the whole time...and every other female present.
Now it is officially the day of the ceremony. Luna Catherine and Alpha Michael have both been buzzing with anxiety. I understand because I mean it's not every day the royal family comes to your pack.
"I wonder what the prince is like," Ruby said as she was getting her nails done next to me.
Did I mention Luna Catherine made sure Ruby, Kylie, and I got a mani-pedi day? She says she deserved it for how much we helped and we also need to look our best.
"I heard his wolf is black and very strong and hard to tame. They hope he finds his mate soon to help with that before he is King", Kylie mused from the other side of me. Of course, she would think of that.
I giggled, "I think she meant she was wondering if he was good-looking or not," I told her as the nail technician finished up my French manicure.
Kylie blushed. "Oh. Well, I'm sure he is. I've never heard of an ugly royal"
"What if he finds his mate in our pack!" Ruby said excitedly as her red nails were getting their last coat
I rolled my eyes, "I doubt it. Don't the royals usually mate with the higher-ranked families in their pack?"
The amethyst pack is so large it is literally divided into multiple factions. Each faction is run by its own powerful Alpha, yet all are under the Alpha King and his family. Think of it as an Alpha yet also a Beta. They are still more powerful than all the other Alphas in other packs, but never as strong as the King, the Alpha of all Alphas.
"Well, you don't get to choose your mate" Ruby argued, "and you never know who the moon goddess has in mind for you."
"Well, technically you can choose" Kylie chimed in, "It's not common but more powerful wolves can reject their fated mate and decide to mark a chosen mate instead. The rejections would be very powerful, but they have enough strength to survive and bind themselves to one another. Unlike others who may die from rejection or survive the rejection but never have enough strength to establish a bond with another. Even if they love that person. Not that it really ever happens but it is possible-" she trailed off as she caught on to the look Ruby and I were giving her that clearly said not now.
Both Ruby and I giggled when her face got red and she looked down. We love Kylie to death, but sometimes once you get her started on werewolf facts and theories, she won't stop.
Once we had got all our nails done, we went to do our hair. Ruby wanted an updo but I liked my hair to stay down. I decided on a sort of half up half down do. I had two tiara braids that were held with a Sapphire Clip that my dad had given my mom. Two strands of hair framed my face and the rest of my long hair flowed to my waist in loose waves.
The clip matched a sapphire necklace and bracelet I was also wearing. I then put on a white dress with spaghetti straps that clung to my bodice and flared out at my hips and fell a little past mid-thigh. I paired it with white strappy heels.
My makeup wasn't too dramatic. Just enough to brighten my eyes and contour my features. I finished it off with a pink gloss on my lips.
Ruby decided to dress like her name and wore a tight red sparkly dress with red heels. She had smoky eye makeup with red lips. She looked amazing.
Kylie stood beautiful as well in a green high-low dress that brought out the green in her eyes. She paired it with tan heels and red lips. Her hair was straightened so it fell down her back and had one red clip on the side pushing some hair out of her face.
"Oh, you all look so beautiful!" Luna Catherine gushed as we walked into Alpha's office where she and the Alpha were currently.
"Not as beautiful as you, Aunt Catherine", I told her, and I wasn't lying. She looked gorgeous in her red dress and heels. She had to represent her pack. My Uncle aka the Alpha was in a suit with a red tie.
Luna just waived my compliment "You three are going to have all eyes on you tonight."
Carter, who was also in the room having his tie fixed by his dad, cleared his throat. "Thanks, mom. It's not like this whole thing isn't about me or anything."
Luna just rolled her eyes. "Oh Stop! I'm just saying they are going to turn a few heads but everyone is here for you and to support you in becoming our Alpha. I just hope you find your mate soon to help you with the responsibility!"
Alpha laughed "Yes son, I don't know what I would do without your mother. She is the reason the pack stays running smoothly." he then turned his head to us. "But she is right. These three lovely ladies will definitely catch the attention of some unmated wolves tonight" he said, winking at all of us.
Ruby just giggled "I'm going to find my family and see if mom needs any help with the little ones. You know how they love to escape and eat all the dessert whenever we have any special event. I'll see you in the banquet hall!" she told us, running off to find her clan.
"That reminds me!" Luna Catherine says "I need to make sure that the caterers and chefs are settled in the kitchen!" she said, rushing out the door. That woman never stops, I swear.
"I'll help her," Kylie said, following her mother. Kylie never stops either, it seems.
I laughed a little under my breath and turned to my Uncle and Carter. My uncle was clearly rushing to try to tie Carter's tie, since he knew Alphas and members of other packs were already arriving.
"Uncle, I can finish getting Carter's Tie fixed. Why don't you go down to see who has arrived" I said, trying to help out, and smiled when I saw him visibly relax.
He took a breath and smiled, "Thank you so much, my dear!" he said, grabbing his phone and some paper and walking out of the room.
Carter looked at me with one eyebrow raised, "You know how to tie a tie?"
I smiled and shrugged "Nope! But Youtube does" I said, pulling out my phone and pulling up a tutorial. He just shook his head and laughed.
For the next 15 minutes, we both struggled to get the task done, but when it was finally completed, I was pretty proud of the outcome.
"You look very handsome", I told him, brushing some lint off his shoulders.
"Do I look like an Alpha?" he asked and I could hear the nervousness in his voice.
I smiled at him. "Of course you do! You look very strong and capable. This pack is lucky to have you as their leader and we all know it."
He smiled back, "You mean it?"
I pulled him into a tight hug. "Of course I do, silly," I told him and felt him hug me back. I know this is nerve-wracking and I want to do whatever I can to help him. Becoming an Alpha of the second-largest pack is a big deal. Especially one with a lot of strong warriors.
"Ooo me next!" I suddenly heard a male voice say from the doorway. A male voice that I wouldn't say I hate, but if I never heard it again, I wouldn't be upset if you caught my drift.
I pulled away from Carter and turned to glare at Trevor who was leaning against the doorframe with a smirk on his face. I crossed my arms. "No," I said simply.
He took a step toward me and still kept the smirk. "Oh come on!" he said, holding his arms out.
I rolled my eyes and slapped his arm away. "Get those away from me."
He was about to say something else when Carter jumped in. "Alright, that is enough."
He may be Carter's best friend but Kylie and I are off limits unless, of course, he was one of our mates, which he isn't. For Kylie, we definitely know he isn't and for me, well, I guess technically he could be, but if he was, I would do that thing Kylie said earlier and reject his ass. Not that he is a completely awful person, but he is definitely not the one for me.
"Or me," Isla piped in.
"There you are!" I said surprisingly. She had been unusually quiet all week.
"I was resting," she said hearing my thoughts.
I was going to ask for what but was interrupted when a mind link came through.
"The king and his family are five minutes away. Every ranked Wolf and their family come downstairs now!" The Alpha sent out. All three of us in the room got the message and immediately followed orders.
Behind me I could hear Carter and Trevor talking "I wonder if the princess is hot", Trevor whispered, and I rolled my eyes.
"She's married with two children," I told him as I spread up some more. That was true. Technically, she was the younger sibling, but the prince is 27 and she is 24. Apparently, she found her mate right when she turned 18.
"And..." Trevor replied and I swear I could hear the smirk in his voice, but then I heard Carter punch him.
"Behave," Carter hissed "We don't need to make any bad impressions."
As we were rounding the corner to meet in the foyer, I was stopped by the Luna literally running into me. "Oh Amara, I'm so sorry! I left my wedding ring in the office! I need to rush to get it so I can be back in time". She said in a panic, trying to rush past me.
I stopped her. "Don't worry, I'll grab it and bring it down. I'm sure they won't notice if I'm a few minutes behind!" I told her and immediately rushed up the stairs before she could argue about it. As I made it to the top of the stairs, I heard the commotion downstairs get louder, which meant they arrived.
Quickly, I ran to the office and saw the ring on the desk. I grabbed it and rushed back down the stairs...Well, the best I could in heels.
As I got about halfway down, I heard a lot of commotion and not just a bunch of happy 'It's nice to see you again'.
I slowed down my steps just to try and eavesdrop.
"Isla, do you hear anything?" I asked her
"It sounds like Kylie found her mate! The Prince's future Beta!" She told me excitedly. She loved Kylie and her wolf Layla. Then I heard her growl a little "Layla says something else is happening."
I stopped on the step I was on. "What? He isn't rejecting her, is he? Royal or not, I'll kill him!"
I felt Isla agree but then I felt her visibly relax, indicating Layla must have explained further "He's not. That's not the problem. It's Prince Kai"
I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. "What? Why?"
Unfortunately for me, Isla decided to stop answering and I could feel that she was in an odd mood. One I can't really explain but it definitely gave me more anxiety about what could be going on. I tried to listen in but there were too many people talking at once and the DJ also started playing music in the ballroom, so I felt overstimulated.
I took a deep breath and made my way down the rest of the stairs. I pray that the Prince hasn't lost control or anything like that, since I remember Kylie saying they are prone to that in that pack.
When I finally reached the corner my breathing hitched and I let out a growl that Isla seconded. The Prince, or who I assume was the prince, was holding Carter up by his throat, growling in his face with black eyes.
"Let my Cousin go!" I growled out, rushing over to them both and pushing the prince off of my cousin. "What is wrong with you?"
The whole foyer was silent and it took a second, but I figured it was because I had just technically "attacked" the Prince. I didn't care though. He was hurting Carter and I know for a fact there was no reason for it. Carter is too sweet and obedient to do anything to piss off a Prince.
The prince had let go of Carter and stumbled back a few inches. He raised his head to look at me and anger and shock were clearly on his face for a brief moment before it was replaced with something else. It had a softness to it and something else I couldn't place.
I watched him closely and tried not to ogle. He was very handsome, just like Kylie predicted. He had a ruggedness about him but still remained regal. His hair was black and he had his sides shaved. It was clear the hair on top was a little unruly, but now it was tamed and slicked back. His face was clean-shaven and he had a defined and strong jaw.
The suit he wore had accents of purple in it to represent his pack and he looked like his muscles were about to burst out of it. He was also tall. Very tall, like 6'6. He looked down at me and some may find our height difference intimidating, but I held my ground. I don't care how tall, dark, and handsome you are, none touches my family.
After his gaze softened for a moment, his brown eyes turned black once more, indicating his wolf was back. I tensed ready for anything.
"Mate" he growled out. and my eyes widened.
I guess I was ready for anything but that....
