Chapter seven.

Chapter seven.

A series of unfortunate events.

“Yes. And I have everything we need to start our plan,” She replied.

I think she must be talking about the rebellion to the shadows.

“That are great news. I´m sure you were successful in everything and I would love to hear it all but I think you must be tired of traveling.” He said while rubbing her back.  Their eyes connected like they were sharing something none of us should now.  A kind of secret only they knew. They kept looking at each other for a couple of seconds before they were interrupted when Lorcan made his throat clunk to get their attention or to try to break the awkward moment. Bleddyn looked directly at me. His expression as if he was asking me to forgive him. I moved my eyes from his and paced my view at the open window.

“You are right. If you excuse me I’m going to rest now.” When she moved from Bleddyn sides was when she saw me standing there in the entrance of the room. She stopped walking looking at me up and down.

“Who is she?” She asked. The three of them seemed to be caught out off guard. The first one to come back and talk was Enyo.

“Oh. She is Minthie. Our new friend.”

“She is human.” Said Ascia with a disgusted face. Taking a step closer to me. Making the tension in the air increase.

“Don´t be like that.” Exclaimed Lorcan. “She is different from the rest.” Tried to say in a poor manner. His comment made Ascia scoff, her nose wrinkled and she turned around.

Giving me a final look she headed to the other side of the hallways, were I knew were the rest of the bedrooms and punched one of the doors close. An uncomfortable silence set in the room until Lorcan decided to break it.

“Don´t worry for her. She is just difficult sometimes.” He tried to explain.

“Don´t worry yourself I get it. I´m new and human.” I said lifting my shoulders.

“But you are our friend now and that’s not ok.” Lorcan said. “I´m going to talk to her later. But now our dinner is getting cold and I want to try those noodles.” He said as he jumped from the coach and ran to the kitchen with Enyo behind him. I looked at Bleddyn and he was with his eyes still focused were Ascia had disappear. As if he wanted to go behind her. Disappointed that our moment was interrupted I headed to the kitchen where I sat next to Lorcan and started eating Enyo’s food. Bleddyn followed us reluctantly and sat in the other end of the table. He always used to sit next to me and now this caused me to think that something was happening. He was acting more cold that before and it seemed that Ascia was the reason. I glanced at my plate and began eating before the food went cold. 

After eating I went to my room. Making a short stop to see if my sister was in her room. Just to see her sleeping in her bed. I brushed my teeth and changed in to something more comfortable to sleep. I heard movement one hour after I went to sleep. I could hear the talk and discuss what they were going to do this night. Every night the guys used to transform and go running to the forest too hunt whatever was there. And I used to stand in the front door to look at the mesmerized while they shape shift but today I wasn´t in the mood. So I just laid in my bed looking at the full moon through the window. I heard they growl and howl as I closed my eyes. Something has changed in the atmosphere and I don´t think it will be good.

I always got fascinated with how they look in their animals forms. Enyo is a beautiful Black Panther and Lorcan an imposing Bengal tiger but his fur is as white as the snow. They were fantastic creatures. Something you could only dream off. I was curious to see Ascia form, but I stayed put in my bed as I heard they come out and transform. I could hear Bleddyn wolf howl and how the rest of his pack responded. 

As almost every night from the days I’ve been here Bleddyn wolf, which I call Kalon now, came to my room and jumped on the bed. This was almost a routine. He would end his patrols and come to sleep with me. His scent was stronger in his wolf form so the bed always smelled like him. At fists I found it strange but Bleddyn told me that he had no control when the animal was out. He could see everything but could not interfere. That he and the animal were separated beings living in the same body. So when his wolf came to me it was his decision, that he found being comfortable next to me. So I let it be.  And he has being sleeping with me ever since.

But today when he jumped on the bed and put his head in my hip for me to pet it I ignored him. Since Ascia appearance he acted strange for the rest of the night, ignoring me and not looking at me. It may seem a little petty from me, but if he wanted to play the cold game I could play to. I know they are separated beings but I could tell that if his wolves could feel my attitude towards them he could to. I ignored his whimpers and fell asleep only to be awake to a big bang coming from outside the house. You could feel that the explosion was far away, but that it was so big that the shock wave reached us, as the window panes shook with the impact. I got up as fast as I could that I didn't even notice Bleddyn sleeping naked in my bed until he made an angry sound and moved in it.

“What are you doing?!” I shouted covering my eyes. I heard the bed sheets move before he said.

“I´m covered now.” I moved my hands out of my face and looked at him. He was still in bed but now he had the sheets over himself. One of his arms was being used as a rest for her head and the other was covering his eyes.  “What was that sound?” He asked.

“I don´t know. It came from outside. And why are you naked in my bed?”

“This always happens when I shift back.” He explains.

“You have been sleeping naked here all this time?” I ask in shock. A smirk pull his mouth and I can feel my blood boil. This bastard has been sleeping like this with me all the time. I search in the room something to throw at him. I reach a pillow that was on the floor and throw it to his head. He laughs when the pillow hits his head not causing the effect I was looking for.

“I think now there is a more important thing happening.” He states. “We should go out and find out what has that explosion.” He says lifting his upper body from the bed, making the bed sheets sled from his chest showing his muscles. He stretches his arms making his muscles tense. I can´t take my eyes out of him. I feel my face light red. His eyes connect with mine and I look the other way when he starts to get up from the bed.

“You should put some clothes on.” I said feeling embarrassed. He moves to my side until I can feel the warmth of his body.  I can feel his breath on my cheek when he comes closer to me. It feels like he is taking my sent with him. I close my eyes from the sensation of having him so close to me. His left hand comes to my face and his fingertips brush lightly in my check before he pulls my face and now I’m facing him. Our eyes lock and I get lost in his.

“I have never had seen someone look at me that way.” He states.

“What way?” I ask confused but never losing my focus.

“Like you…”  I never got to listen what he was about to say because the door opened and a furious Ascia came thought it.

“What are you two doing?”  He ask looking at the both of us. “Get dress now.” She says looking directly to Bleddyn. He lets me go and walks out of the room but before he goes he glance at me one last time. Ascia brings her attention to me one more time. She stays looking at me for what felt a long time before she opened her mouth.

“Stay away from him.” She starts explaining. “He is no good for you.” Her words catch my attention. No good for me?

“What are you talking about?” I ask.

“Bleddyn is not for you. He is too much for you to handle. You are stupid if you think he could ever feel something for you.” She finish saying with a smirk on her face.

“I´m here because he said I am part of something he does not know yet.”

“And you believed him?” She asks. “You are more naïve than I thought.”

“Stop saying that and talk clear. What do you mean?” I ask getting inpatient.

“Silly little girl, can´t you see the truth right in front of you?” She says before leaving the room. I rush behind her to ask what is she talking about but she is nowhere to be found.

I came out of the house and saw all of them standing looking to the sky. I stood a few feet away from them and looked up as well. I can see a big ball of smoke in the distance in the direction of the old base where I and my sister lived. The cloud of smoke was expanding more and more and I could see the flames of the fire that caused the explosion.  The ground was shaking from the explosions and even though we were far away you could still hear the roars of the creatures that were attacking the base. The thought of my sister came to my mind in that exact moment. Where is she?

Desperately, I looked in all directions looking for my sister. Not seeing her outside with us, I turned and ran into the house and went straight to her room. I opened the door as fast as I could and saw that her bed was empty. My breathing began to accelerate and I ran out of the room and started looking for her throughout the house. I did not find her in any room and I began to despair more. My breathing hitched when the realization that my sister was gone came to me. I started yelling her name as a way to see if she was somewhere I wasn't looking for.

            I ran outside to ask Bleddyn or the others if they didn't know where my sister was but I only found their torn clothes on the ground. That just means they transformed and now they were running through the woods on what I imagine being towards the explosion. I took a deep breath and started running towards the forest. It was a stupid decision but I had to find my sister. It was the middle of the night and she couldn't be alone in the middle of the forest. On the way I took a stone and held it in my hand as a measure of defence in case something came near me. I remembered everything Mendez said to me in y training days. I know this could be not useful if I run to one of the evolved, but I had to try. Mendez voice came clear to my mind

“Run in zigzags, try to always aim for the eyes or the throat, and never, NEVER try to fight if you have a way to scape.”

Following my instincts I run down a path that leads towards the sounds of what I believe is a fight. I run with all my might which makes me feel like my lungs are burning, I see that I'm out of shape, this could mean that I won't be able to do much if my sister is in danger. I was calling out my sister's name with the rest of my strength, hoping that she would listen to me.

When I thought I was lost and could never find them I heard the fight again, only this time the sound was louder. Growls got louder and louder as I got closer to their source. A scream came from my throat when I saw my sister in the middle of the fight. She was unconscious on the ground, or so it seemed since she was with her eyes closed. I tried to run to her to help her when I was stopped by a pair of arms that held me in place. I turned my head back and all I could see a bloody Lorcan. He looked tired and his previously clean white hair was now dirty with dirt and blood.

"You better stay here." He told me without looking at me, his attention set on the fight.

"Nadia is there." I said as I tried in vain to get out of his grip.

"You're not going to improve the situation if you get hurt too." He tried to explain. His eyes darted from me to the fight again. After other invalid attempts to chastise his grip I gave up and decided to watch the fight as well. Ensuring the safety off my sister, I kept watching her in the hope that nothing bad happened to her.

Taking my eyes out of Nadia´s body I was able to identify the wolf of Bleddyn fighting one of the things that attacked me years ago. This one seemed bigger and if I'm not mistaken it had a feminine shape. There were two more shadows fighting with Enyo's panther and with an Ascia that had not changed like the others witch seemed strange to me. But that didn't stop her fangs from hanging out of his mouth and his neatly painted nails were now powerful claws that could rip a piece of meat out of your body easily. It was fascinating to watch them fight. One of the figures almost stepped Nadia´s body when Ascia threw it to one three. That caused me to scream my sister’s name.

My scream made Bleddyn wolf at one point looked in our direction causing him to lose focus in the fight and the shadow took advantage of that moment to give him a strong blow that took him flying a few meters until his body collided with a tree causing the tree to split to the middle by impact. The shadow didn't wait for Bleddyn to gather himself and attacked him again, but Bleddyn was waiting for him and wedged his fangs into the shadow's outstretched arm, causing the shadow to screech so loud it disturbed my ears. My focus returned to my sister when I saw that Bleddyn was fighting again. My sister was not in the same place where I first saw her. The panic came back to me when I saw an unconscious Enyo and Ascia trying to keep the other shadow at bay. One of them had disappeared and my sister too.

Tears gathered in my eyes and started to fall like cataracts down my face when the thought that one of those creatures could have taken my sister. The name of my sister came out of my mouth causing the shadow that was with Ascia to look in my direction distracting it enough for Ascia to hit it and send it into the shadow of the forest. I moved trying to get out of Lorcan's arms again more determinate this time.

“Nadia!” I shouted again before Lorcan put his hands in my mouth covering it.

“Stay quiet. You will only make them lose focus and they will get hurt.” He says while making me stay still in my place. I give up when I notice that there is a lost fight trying to set me free from his embrace.

I watch the two spare shadows fight Bleddyn and Ascia. The one that fights with Bleddyn is the tallest and the one that gives a more powerful aura than the other. Its shape is totally black and a grey smoke surrounds it. You can see that she has long hair and her eyes are two black poses surrounded by a whitish thread that glows in the dark. Although her body is totally black, there is a golden aura surrounding her, which makes her more fascinating to look at. You can´t deny that they are fascinating creatures.

The other shadow is just as black but has a purple glow that surrounds it, this one is not as corporeal as the first, it expands like smoke and attacks Ascia fiercely, as if it had no control over its actions and reacted only by instinct. Her eyes glow with a violet light just like Lorcan's. Which looks at her fascinated. I Just now realize that he hadn’t taken his eyes of her. He follows her every move like his is hypnotized.

The third and last shadow for the short time I could see her, was the most corporeal of the three. Only that its colour was more reddish than black. And what most caught my attention about this one was the two horns that hung from the top of her head, horns that shone a light similar to fire at the tip.

It was in itself the one that scared me the most because of its appearance, it resembled what the ancients called demons. That they were creatures that descended from hell. Enyo was still unconscious on the ground being protected by Ascia, who was pushing the purple one the further she could from Enyo´s unconscious body.

  A noise called the attention of the beasts that stopped fighting to observe the darkness of the forest that was slowly illuminated by the sunlight. Dawn was approaching, that made me realize how much time we had spent in this clearing.

The sunlight forced the shadows to retreat and Ascia and Bleddyn revert to human form. What made me uncomfortable because they were… naked? Bleddyn had his back to me and I could see his muscles moving, as if they were rearranging themselves in his body. Her back gleamed from the sweat that ran down her and made her glow in the orange sunlight. Ascia had her back to us as well, her body just like Bleddyn was reverting to her human state. Her hair blew in the wind in the morning breeze and glowed bright red in the sunlight. The two of them standing there in the middle of that clearing looked like two works of art that deserved to be contemplated.

            The shadow creatures retreated into the thickest part of the forest, where the light did not reach them. I could feel a penetrating gaze on me so I turned my head to where I felt that strength and I could see that the larger shadow was looking directly at me. Her strange eyes glowed in the dark and made me feel uncomfortable. Suddenly the shadows were covered in thick smoke and when it was disappearing some human figures took the place of the shadows.

            The shadow creatures retreated into the thickest part of the forest, where the light did not reach them. I could feel a penetrating gaze on me so I turned my head to where I felt that strength and I could see that the larger shadow was looking directly at me. Her strange eyes glowed in the dark and made me feel uncomfortable. Suddenly the shadows were covered in thick smoke and when it was disappearing some human figures took the place of the shadows.

            To say that they were beautiful would be blasphemy, because they were much more than that. They were divine, with delicate beauty, skins so white they looked like porcelain. Their heads were adorned with black hair that fell like a cascade of curlers down their backs, reaching their waists. They had beautiful crystal eyes that hypnotized you and called you to get closer. The tallest of them took a step closer in my direction and a thin beam of light touched the skin of her cheek, causing it to glow like a magic trick.

            They were fully dressed, not like the rest of the boys. They were adorned by silk dresses, with ropes that joined the pieces of cloth to form dresses. The only difference is that the one who was watching me was wearing what appeared to be a corset that covered half her torso. The other girl wore a delicate moss green dress that seemed to melt with her skin. Curiosity came to me when I thought what the other shadow that managed to escape would look like.

            I was so busy observing them that I didn't realize Enyo was already standing leaning on Ascia's shoulder. Bleddyn had gotten clothes from somewhere and was now wearing sport shorts. A voice that I can only describe as angelic caught everyone's attention and we looked at the beautiful women who were in the gloom of the forest valley.

            "We are not here to harm you. We only want what belongs to us. What was promised to us" Said the voice of the first woman. "My name is Cruor and this is my sister Kaira."

"We want what was promised. And we are not taking no for an answer." Kaira's voice was so sweet that I didn't realize that in that sentence she launched a threat to my team.

"You already have what you want, you can go now." Bleddyn's commanding voice said. "You don't have to be here now. Go away." He finished before turning his back on them and starting walking our direction. His eyes locked on mine and I could see a fraction of what seemed sorrow in them. Ascia flowed his steps, she was looking at me too as she knew something that I didn’t. Enyo was still being carried in Ascia shoulders until Lorcan let me go to go help them.

“You know that is not thru.” Cruor voice echoed in the clearing. “You only gave my one.” She finished saying. One of what? What were they hiding? I could see all of them except Ascia tense up.

“The other one is special.” Bleddyn voice sounded sad and soothing else I can´t catch what it is. “I think it is me mate.” He stated looking to Cruor. Ascia looks up when she hears that. A Shocked expression covers her face as if now she understand why this is happening and I can swear I saw pity in her eyes.

“That is really sad.” Said Kira. “But a deal is a deal. “You give them to us; both of them, and you never see us or know about us again.”

“That was the deal you firmed with your blood. You have to do it.” Says Cruor with impatience.

Bleddyn looks at me and to them again. He takes some steps backwards and scratch the back of his head. His eyes shift from me to the girls as he was deciding what to do next.

“Bleddyn.” Said Cruor trying to catch his attention again. “If you give her to me you will have everything you desire. I will give you 3 days with her for you to decide what you are going to do” He stated

“Three days and nothing more. After that we will come her again and take her you liking or not.” Kira finished and they turned around and vanished in the dark.

Confused I looked at them in hopes to get some answers. But they all avoided my glace. Turning their heads sideways to avoid staring straight to my face.

“What was she talking about?” I ask. “Where the f**k is Nadia? And why is nobody answering me?” I finished almost shouting at them.

Ascia was the first to look at me in the eyes. And when she talked she broke the first stray of my heart.

“They took her. Nadia is with them.”
