Chapter five.
“Minthie point of view”
I could feel like something was pushing me out of my dream. I could hear voices whispering inside the room and I decided to ignore them as much as I could until my sleepiness was gone. I stayed with my eyes closed listening to the voices. I didn't recognize any at first until Kalon's voice sounded a little louder than the others.
"So is it her?" I heard a male voice ask, his voice sounded more melodious than Kalon's.
"I hope so. We connected. She touched me and I felt it" He says with what seems to be concern in his voice.
"That's good news. Now we need to talk to her about her part in our plan." Said the voice of a woman. She had a nice accent so I guess she's not from this region.
"Let's not talk about it now. I think she's waking up and there are more important things to talk about now." Kalon said.
I could hear a couple of footsteps coming out of the room as Kalons approached the bed and he took a seat on the end of the mattress. Dragging his hand across the bed, he reached my foot, where he went up to my knee and back to my foot. My heart leapt when the movement began to repeat itself again for a few times.
"I know you heard us. I could feel the change in your breathing." He said as the movement spotted.
My eyes automatically opened and connected with his intense gaze. There was something in his eyes that I didn't want to acknowledge. Pure longing.
“You need to give me some explanations” I said sitting straight in the bed.
“I know.” He said as he follow my every move with his eyes. “You should get dress and something to eat before. And when you finish find me at the lake.” He stood up from the bed and started moving towards the door. “I will tell you everything you need to know.” The door closed when he left the room.
I climbed out of bed and stretched looking through the open window. The day was beautiful and the sun was shining bright. Now that I could appreciate the view I can say this place is amazing. I searched the room trying to find something to put on. I took a black shirt from a drawer and some sweatpants from the closet. This had to do. I opened a front door only to find that it had a bathroom included and got a kick shower just to calm myself down. I was too nervous about what he would tell me. After finishing my routine and getting dress I opened the door and went to my sister’s room only to not find her there. It wasn´t strange form her to disappear, but I was hoping that being in a different place, a place she doesn’t know she would stay in the room. But I was wrong. I stepped out of the room and began walking thought the hallways until I found what looked to be the kitchen to see there was a plate with food on the table.
My stomach roared when I saw the food, rushing to the table I took a seat and began eating without thinking twice. It was delicious. And I made a little moan when the coffee went down my throat.
“Such a tease.” Said a male voice scarring me and making me throw my coffee all over me. “You must be one of Bleddyn friends.” Looking up from my disaster I found him in the kitchen entrance leaning against the door frame. He had a huge smile on his face. His looks confused me a little bit. He had a silver hair, almost white that would fall on his face. His face was soft and full of freckles and he had the plumpest and red lips I had seen in my entire life. But what caught my attention the most were his eyes. No kidding they were purple. A dark purple.
“Liking what you see?” He asked flirtatiously.
“Shut up Lorcan. No one finds you attractive.” A girl appeared from behind him and sit in front of me on the table. She was a short brunet girl with straight short hair. Her eyes were dark and shaped like almonds giving her an Asian look. “My name is Enyo and he is Lorcan. We are Bleddyn betas.”
Bleddyn? Betas? What was all this about? They must have seen my confused face because Enyo laughed and Lorcan took a sit next to me.
“Bleddyn is our alpha. We are kind of a pack.” Started Lorcan.
“He is our leader. The betas are like the seconds in command. There´s Ascia too but she is not here.” Finished Enyo.
“She is doing research for us right now. You will meet her soon tho.”
“Ok. But who is Bleddyn. That leader of yours.” I asked whit pure confusion.
They both busted laughing like I was telling some kind of a joke. A throat clearing caught my attention and I looked to the entrance of the patio and Kalon was standing there looking at us. The other two kept laughing until Kalon voice echoed in the kitchen.
“I am their alpha. My name is Bleddyn Botewof. And they are my sisters and brother littermates.” He said getting closer to me. “Remember when I said I had others like me? Well this is my family.” He leaned closer to my ear and whispered “We should get going now. The story is very long.” He then stood up and stretched his hand towards me. Lifting my right hand I took his in mine. He pushed me up with no difficulties and we began walking to the backyard.
“Don’t get to touchy down there!” Shouted Lorcan making Enyo laugh and Bleddyn chuck.
“Don´t listen to them. They are like kids.” Bleddyn said a little more loudly for them to hear.
“I heard that!” Shouted Lorcan from inside. This made me smile. Watching them act like normal people when they clearly weren´t.
We walked in silence for what seemed to long. Our hands still connected and that lightning of electricity was still there. My fingertips were longing to touch him. The side of his face is just as beautiful. His nose was masculine. Fuller limps with a pink tint and his jaw looked like it could cut my finger. His dark brown hair moved with the wind and those golden shines would appear every time the sun touched him. He was a palm taller than me. So I had to lift my head to look at him. His eyes reflected mine when he looked at me. In the sun they seemed melted honey in a pot. The same smell of pine and citrus came from him, so I figure it could be his perfume. One side of his mouth lifted and that is when I realized I had dozen out looking at his face like a total freak.
“I´m sorry.” I could feel my cheeks flushing when I turned my face to look away.
“Don´t worry yourself. I do the same when I look at you.” His confession made me blush even more and I hide my face with my hair. He let a nasal laugh out and we continued walking in a comfortable silence.
We finally arrived at the clearing that lead to the lake. It was a mesmerizing place. Full of nature and everything was bright green. You could hear the birds sing and the sound of what I suppose was a waterfall was so calming. Knowing there is a lake near by the house was something I wasn´t expecting. I used to love swimming when I was I child so having a lake here brought all those happy memories back. How I used to play in the water whit my father and my mother and sister would stay in the shore to watch us play. It was a happy memory. I was so distracted by those memories when Bleddyn voice brought me back to reality. I didn't even realize we were so close to the lake.
“If you would like we can sit there.” He said pointing to a big tree that gave a nice cover from the sun.
“Yeah sure.” We walked to the tree and we sat under its leaves.
“If you want to know why you are here you will need to know everything from the star.” He said looking to the water. “It´s a long story and you need to pay attention to everything.”
“I will listen to whatever you have to say. But first, why did you let me call you Kalon?” I asked.
“Because I liked it.” He said with a smile on his face. “And it's not like I could transform to human again and risk you never coming back.” He exclaimed laughing. I laughed to because it´s was true. I would be terrified if that happened the first time I saw him.
“Bleddyn point of view”
I don´t know where to begin. There so much I need to tell her that everything is mashed up in my head confusing me more. I glance at her and she is looking the waves in the lake. The water reflects the sun in her eyes making them seem more light and bright. I sigh calling her attention and I get lost in her ayes for a second before I start talking.
“I remember the day they took me like it was yesterday.” I recalled. “I was the year 1425 and I was eight years old. I was playing outside my parents’ house. My mother was cleaning the kitchen and my father was out working at that time. A strange pickup truck parked near my house and four man came out of it.” It was hard for me to remember that day. Minthie stayed silent while listening to me, a thing I appreciated.
“My house was far from the city. A pine forest surrounded our house and our neighbour’s lived more than a mile away. The four strange man didn´t saw me at first. They entered my house and started looking everywhere while one of them had my mother captive in the kitchen. He tied her up and when I heard her scream I run to the house and pushed open the door. And that’s when they saw me. The one that held my mother screamed in a language I did not understood and they came running towards me. My mother shouted me to run but I froze in fear and they caught me.” Minthie hand touched mine and squished it a little bit giving me comfort.
“They tied me up and gagged me. Never explaining what has happening. They took me and threw me in the back seat of the truck. And the last thing I remember was a gun sound when they injected me something to make me sleep. I woke up four days later in what seemed a hospital bed with millions of wires connected to my body. That’s when my nightmare began. They experimented with me for years. Injecting me things they said would make me stronger but it just made me suffer. Sometimes the things they infected me would made me so sick I thought I was gonna die. But they kept me alive. I wasn’t the only one in there. There were more like me, we had numbers to identify us. Mine was 506. I learned from the others that they were kidnaping people that were rumoured to have connections our direct blood line with what you would call supernatural creatures. I suppose that being named Bleddyn Botewof made me a target.” I said the last part laughing ironically.
“I come from a family with roots in old England. Where the legends of man that could transform into wolfs always circulated my family. They needed younger and youthful people to experiment with so must of us were kids. That’s when I met Lorcan and Ascia, they were siblings and then Enyo was brought. And we became friends, protecting each other as much as we could. I don’t know what they did exactly with me but when I reached 16 years old I could grow my nails into claws. My temper grow short and they used to anger me to see my new strength and without noticing one day I was able to fully transform to what you saw the other day. A big brown wolf. Lorcan is a beautiful Siberian tiger, Enyo is a black panther and Ascia is the only one of us that can´t transform fully. But that doesn’t make her least dangerous. She is stronger than me and much better at hunting.” I explained.
“They left me alone for some days and then they would started all over again. I used to woke up tied in a bed and doze out with the new medication they administrated me. The years went by and they noticed I aged different from the rest. My littermates and I had something that blocked our aging gens. All the experiments from 444 to 546 suffered the same mutation. I´m biologically 25 years old but in reality I’m 152 years old.” I moved my eyes from the lake and looked at Minthie. She had a shock look in her face, as she wasn´t believing what I just told her.
“Are you joking or something?!” She asked.
“No.” I said. “I’m a 152 years old mummy.” I busted out laughing at her face when she opened and closed her mouth not knowing what to say.
“That´s impossible.” She stated.
“You are looking at a man that can shape shift and you are saying things that are impossible?” I asked ironically. She rolled her eyes and I continued talking.
“Everything was normal until one day everything changed. I was in my cell eating when I heard what sounded like a looting happening outside. I got up and put my ear to the door to hear what was going on outside. I could hear screams and roars. So I figure it out that something was loose again. That was a normal thing those days. They couldn´t control us all and some of us were noticing that. But that day things were different. I froze when my door opened and I could see the chaos that was outside. People and monster running everywhere. Things that I didn't even know existed. I came out of my room and saw Ascia being held by one of the doctors and I went to help her getting her free. I´m not proud of what I did that day and the next ones but I did it to survive and save the ones I consider to be my family. I became the alpha of my group and they took my name as their one to show they appreciate and care for me to.”
“And how do I end up in that story of yours?” She ask taking me by surprise.
“I was doing guard in the part of the territory that I took as my own and I saw a little girl walking through the forest. I smelled you and you did not smell anything like what I knew. You were completely human and that infuriated me. I got closer to you but you did not notice me. You continued walking when you found some flowers and you made a happy noise and you started to collect them. I stayed there looking at you until I took a wrong step and you heard me. I was fascinated to see a human so innocent looking that I came closer to you. You smelled like mint and fresh apple juice. You still smell like that. You touched me and I knew you were different.
“And then that thing came.” She said.
“And then that thing came.” I repeated her remembering my first encounter with the shadows. “Those things were called the shadows by the scientists. They are shape shifters like us but more developed. They are what you would call demons. They can transform their bodies in to creatures of the night with long fangs and horns. They move in a herd, eating everything in front of them. They were the ones who freed us and now they think we owe them.”
“Owe them what?”
“Our freedom. And they are killing us if we refuse.” I Explained. “And I need your help. Well I need your sister's help I know she somehow can communicate with their leader Cruor.”
“Wait. What?!” She asked standing up shaking her head.
“I don´t know how but she can. That’s how she knew they were coming they are searching for you two.” I explained to her. “I can´t figure it out and that’s why Ascia is out there trying to find some information that can lead us to something.”
“So you are telling me I´m being hunted down by a demon look alike?! Are you joking or something? And where is my sister?” She exclaimed almost shouting.
“I´m not joking we will find out. You just need to stay hidden and we will…” She doesn´t let me finish my sentence.
“I won’t stay hidden.” She states.
“What do you plan to do? Fight those things?” I fight back.
“Obviously. I may not be as strong as you are but I won´t stay behind while you try to save me. I’m not some princess that you will throw in a tower.” She stands straight in her feet and I know she will stay true to her words.
“Fine. But first you will need to know how to fight them.” I say. A smile forming in my face.
“So teach me.” She says.
“Third person point of view.”
As the two of them chatted in the lake a figure ran as fast as it could to deliver the information she just discovered. Her long red hair flowed in the wind as she jumped the through the trees and ran escaping the black figure who chased her. With her improved eyesight it was much easier to run through the forest without crashing into the trees. Ascia was coming home and nothing would stop her.
