Chapter eight.
Mate.
“Minthie point of view”
“What?” My voice was almost a whisper. I looked at all of them hoping she was somehow lying. Lorcan and Enyo their eyes shift directions trying to evade mine. They are all tense what makes me guess that what Ascia said was true. My eyes begun to water again when I realized they had somehow betrayed me. I thought they were my friends and that they were protecting me and my sister. I trusted them with our lives and they do this. Bleddyn can´t even look at me I can see that he is regretful and sad. I turn around slowly, I can´t even see them right now. I don´t know what to feel. A feeling I can´t comprehend invades my body. I hear my name came from Bleddyn´s mouth but I ignore him.
“Minthie. Please! Listen to me.” He starts talking but I keep walking forward. “I can explain. Just listen to me!”
I suddenly stop walking and turn around just to collide with Bleddyn’s chest. He tries to help me when I collide against him I slap his hands away not wanting him to touch me. I see my actions cause him pain but in this moment I don´t care.
“Explain what? That you gave my sister to that monsters?” I ask furious.
“I didn´t know what to do. They were threatening us!”
“How could you? She was my sister.” My hands collide with the side of my body showing how frustrated the situation leaves me. I can't even look at his face. “They know what your father did Minthie.” He starts explaining. “They wanted you both but I can´t let you go.” He tries to come closer to me but I take some steps back not wanting him near me.
“There is no justification for what you did Bleddyn.”
“I know! But you need to understand me! I was trapped. I made the deal with them before I knew it was you I had to deliver.” He says putting his hands on his face in a frustrated way.
“Wait. You knew this would happen all this time? You were lying to me all along?” My voice shakes when I talk. I can´t believe this. I turn around one more time trying to stay away from him.
My footsteps sounding loud against the ground. I am furious, my fists are clenched at the sides of my body. I can feel my nails dig into the palm of my hands. My lips curl in disgust just at the thought that I was about to let him enter me. That I imagined everything. All this time thinking that he cared for me to turn everything into a lie. A horrible lie that came at a giant cost. My sister. A sob escapes my mouth as the thought of what they might be doing to my sister comes to mind.
"Please Minthie. Listen to me!" Her voice comes to my ears again. But this time I'm not stopping to listen to it. I go on my way as fast as I can to the house. A plan forming in my head on how to go and save my sister. I have the means to do it and now I have a motive.
I open the door to the house so hard it hits the wall behind it but I don't care. I continue on my way to what used to be my room and open the door. I go to my closet and start to take clothes out of it, which I then put into a backpack.
I can feel Bleddyn's presence in the room and what's weirder is that the smell that always follows is stronger now, making me feel dizzy from the smell.
"Minthie please. Don't do this to me."
I can hear her voice behind me. His grip now stronger which indicates that he is closer to me. I remain true to my oath to ignore it and continue to pack clothes in my backpack.
"Let me explain you." When her hand touches the free part of my arm, the same sparks of energy go through my whole body and strangely it relaxes me. Bleddyn seizes the moment and gets closer to me and takes me by surprise when his hands go to my waist and brings me closer to his chest making my back rest on his chest. His arms surround me and his head hides behind my neck. The hairs on my body are wound when his breath hits my neck and an involuntary moan escapes my lips. Which are now dry and I wet them with the tip of my tongue. I hear him whisper words of comfort which I ignore and focus on his touch.
"Mate." I hear it say louder and that word is what brings me to reality again. I use his body as a lever and push myself as far away from him as I can. Because Bleddyn was focused on whatever he was doing, he managed to get out of his grip easily.
"That word, mate. What is it?" I question him as I put the backpack down and take a few careful steps back, trying to get away from him. Bleddyn runs his hands over his face trying to get the effect of our touch out of his system.
"It's kind of hard to explain." He says as his gaze passes from me across the room, trying to avoid contact with my judging eyes.
"Mate is a person who is destined to spend his life with you. It is as if they are soul mates." He begins to explain. "I realized you were mine the first day we saw each other. I looked at you from afar and saw you collect flowers and something told me that I had to get closer to you. And when I did it was when I felt the same connection that I know. You feel too. What attracted me the most was your smell, you smelled so sweet and innocent that I stared at you without knowing what to do. Until I took a wrong step and you listened to me. It was the most beautiful moment when your eyes saw mine for the first time. So brave that you didn't even run when you saw me standing there. I knew from that moment that you were important and I wanted to keep you by my side and I would do anything for you. “He finishes talking and looks up meeting my gaze which keeps connected with mine. A small smile curves his lips and brings my gaze down to them. I always wanted to know how they would feel around mine.
I cross my arms around myself in a protective manner. I don't want to fall for her words.
"Would you do anything for me?" I ask while lifting my chin.
"Yes." He answers without hesitation.
"Even hand my sister over to the monsters that killed my parents? What would you do for me?"
"Minthie ..." He tries to speak but I put my hand up making him stop.
"She was the only thing I had and you gave her to those things that are capable of doing anything to her." My face contracts with my own words. My hand covers my mouth when I realize another sob was about to come out. My eyes are covered with tears and my vision is clouded by them. I decide that this is not the time to cry and rub my hands over my eyes angrily wiping the tears out of them and take the backpack that was forgotten on the floor and turn around leaving my old room. I go to my sister's room and open the door. I avoid looking at her bed and go straight to the closet, from which I take some clothes and put them next to mine in the backpack.
"Minthie. What are you doing?" I hear Bleddyn's voice behind me, checking that he followed me from my room to here. "Minthie. Drop that." Bleddyn walks over to me when I ignore him and kept stuffing clothes into the backpack. He tries to take her from my hands but I slap his hands away from the backpack to which I close when I have everything I need inside. I surround his body and head out of the room when his hand grabs my forearm and pushes me inside again. He puts his body against the door after closing it leaving us locked inside.
"You can't leave." I hear the desperation in his voice when he speaks.
"Try to stop me." I threaten him while looking for a way to escape the room.
"It's dangerous for you to be alone out there. I'm not going to let you go around to get killed." Try to reason with me. I turn to see him and see how nervous he is.
"My sister is out there alone and I made a promise to never leave her and I intend to keep it. And no one is going to stop me much less you." My voice comes out full of rage. Bleddyn stares at me for a few seconds not knowing what to say until his mouth opens and he says something I didn't expect to hear.
"I'll go with you. Take me. I promise to keep you safe and help you with your sister."
"How can I trust you after this?" I ask sincerely.
"Let me show you that I am more than this. Please."
I think about it for a moment. I am not as stupid as many will think. I know I can't survive around alone and I could use your help even if I don't want it.
"Good. I agree but I want you to know that from this moment we are no longer friends." I tell him as I run him out the door, he moves away from the exit and lets me open the door and walk out.
"We have a lot to do." I tell him as I walk down the corridor. I'm going to go find my sister even if it's the last thing I do.
