Chapter fourteen. Minthie point of view. The emptiness in me kept growing and I couldn't shake the feeling. Even being unconscious, wandering inside my confused and hurt mind, I slowly transported myself to another world. I was in my city. Anguish invaded me when I recognized my surroundings. Everything was the same as before. I saw my parents in the distance. I raised my hand and greeted them. I saw their smiles on their faces and ran towards them, I felt like I had been away from them for a long time. But there was a sense of emptiness that overshadowed the sense of relief he felt when he saw them. I saw myself being pulled from her arms and anguish covered my body again. I heard a voice calling me from afar. I did not want to leave. I wanted to stay with my parents. But whatever that voice is, it won't let me. *************************** I woke up, it had already dawned. It was another day in doom. I sighed. I felt cold and curled up on the soft place that I was. He wrapped my arms around my body trying to comfort myself. I listened to some murmurs and I slowly opened my eyes, I found myself on the dirty bed that had been covered by a piece of cloth. When I got up I realized that my legs did not hurt anymore. Scared, I lifted my dress and saw that my knees were perfectly healthy. Thinking it had all been a bad dream due to the lack of food and water, I got up when the murmurs got louder and the door opened. There standing behind the door were Bleddyn and Ascia. Ascia wore an angry expression on her face that calmed down when she saw me. "Minthie. What a relief to see you alive." Her voice sounded sincere. But I didn't know who to trust anymore and she hadn't been very nice to me in the past. I stared at them in silence. Without saying anything, the two of them entered my cell and closed the metal door. "Look. I know we didn't start well and that maybe now you don't trust me. But I have to ask you to do it so I can get you out of here." My finger frowns in surprise. Do you want to get me out of this place? I see Bleddyn press his ear to the door so he can hear if someone is approaching. "What are you talking about?" I ask Ascia. "I'm going to get you out of here Minthie. I came for you." Her voice is calm, as if trying to calm me down. That's when I realize I'm shaking. "I won't hurt you. Trust me." Her hand reaches my direction and I doubtfully take it between mine. Her grip is firm and warm and makes me realize how much she was craving a human touch. "Please don't lie to me." I see her face twitch and Bleddyn looks at me for the first time since I walked in. His eyes are full of guilt. "No Minthie. I swear I'm going to get you out." What was this all about? Another dirty trick to make me fall further? I couldn't take it anymore whether it was a trick or not, my body vibrated and I broke into a silent cry. My body collided with Ascia's when she took me in her arms. "Easy. Don't tremble more please." Whisper. This had to be another one of those dreams where everything was different. I choked my tears, if it was a dream I didn't want to wake up this time. Ascia released me for a second to turn in the direction of Bleddyn "Give me the black bag." I watched as Bleddyn produced a black corpse bag and handed it to Ascia. "I want you to lie down on the ground and go inside the bag. I'm going to carry you outside and take you away from here." I looked at her scared. "I'm not going to do anything to you Minthie. Trust me. Just pretend you're dead." I looked at her for a few seconds before doing what she said. I had nothing to lose right now. I lie on the floor next to the bag and climb inside. I look at them suspiciously as they close the bag. When I finish closing it, I feel like they lift me into the air and lean me on one shoulder. Ascia is surprisingly strong. The door opens and Bleddyn informs that he is going to check first for anyone coming. When he informs us that the corridor is clear, Ascia leaves and begins to walk down the corridor as fast as she can. Listen as Bleddyn and Ascia swear under their breath. "Are you new here?" I heard Altair's voice very close to me. I tried to relax as much as I could so that he wouldn't notice. "Yes." Ascia answered and kept walking. I heard Altair was going to say something to him but Bleddyn caught his attention with something that I couldn't hear because he was already far away. In a few minutes I noticed that we had already left the building and apparently no one was following us. Ascia quickened her pace. Walked a good stretch until it stopped, could go running a river nearby. Ascia took the bag with me inside and placed it on the floor and then opened it and let me out. "You're good?" She asked. "Yes" I replied dryly. I stood up and she helped me stood up. We stared at each other for a few seconds before she spoke. "I had no idea what she was going to do." "Do not worry me neither." I try to be funny. I lift my shoulders downplaying it. "Oh Minthie if I had only known." "It doesn't matter now. I just want to get out of here." I tell him. "Yes obviously, let's go." Ascia puts her arm around my back and takes me with her away from that place. I never look back. I don't want to remember that place ever again in my life. ****************************** Ascia has stayed true to her word and takes me as fast as she can through the woods until we get out of the dense part and can go a little slower. I feel my legs get a bit uncomfortable, I lift my dress a little and see that there is a pink stain on both of my knees and when I touch it it hurts. Ascia notices it but doesn't tell me anything. It just encourages me to keep walking a little more. We have been walking for a while when I see that it begins to get dark. "I won't be able to walk through the woods at night." I inform you. Ascia stops and watches the place. "We can't stay here. We're still very close." It informs me. "Get on my back I'm going to take you and we're going to go faster." "Your back?" I ask confused. "Yes. I went upstairs that we don't have time before they realize you're not here." That gets my attention and I climb onto her back when she leans forward. Ascia takes my legs and supports them well on her hips. My arms go around her shoulders and I prepare for her to say something about my weight. But it doesn't happen. "You better hold on tight." When she finishes saying that I feel my body being thrown back by force and I tighten my shivers to her body. Ascia runs quickly through the forest dodging trees in her path and jumping dead branches and rocks that are on the ground. The landscape becomes blurry from speed. I close my eyes feeling the cold night breeze touch my face. After being locked in that cell with the cold freezing my bones until I couldn't feel my body, this cold makes me feel free. Ascia carried me to the end of the trail and only got off when we approached a hidden cabin in the middle of the forest. The cabin on the outside looked damaged by time. As if it was abandoned years ago. "Sorry it's not something more luxurious but it's what we could get." Ascia gently pushes me inside and I am caught in a pair of muscular arms as I walk through the doorway. I smell Lorcan. I didn't know Lorcan had a scent but now I can tell it apart from the rest. Enyo is also nearby. When Lorcan lets go of me I can finally see his face, which has a sincere smile set on it. Enyo is beside us also smiling. "We are happy that you are finally with us Minthie." Hearing his words makes an anguish rise over me. I start to shake when the sobs escape my mouth. I try to cover them with my hands but it is impossible. I feel like Lorcan takes me in his arms again and holds me to keep me from falling. I let them comfort me. I need it right now. All my plans thus far have gone to hell. I need a moment of rest.
