Chapter sixteen

Chapter sixteen. Minthie point of view. I am walking through the open space behind the house where we are staying these last few days. The sun is at its highest point shining brightly in the sky. I can feel its warmth on my skin. How it warms my body and brings it back to life. The field is green and smells of flowers. I fill my lungs with the fresh air and release it slowly. A feeling of peace and warmth surrounds me and the heat increases in my body, expanding through each cell of it. My body trembles with emotion and I feel alive. I've never felt like this in my life. Suddenly I can feel that I am not alone I feel a presence behind me and arms surround my waist. I turn my head to see who is behind me and the sun blinds me for a few seconds. My eyesight begins to adjust to the sunlight and that's when I see it. Bleddyn is behind me, her smile bright as it always greets me when I first see her face. Her hair is longer than I remember and there are some age marks on her face that weren't there before. Her hands caress my stomach forming figures without meaning in a delicate way and that is when I notice the small lump. As fast as lightning the dream that was once warm turns dark. Bleddyn stops smiling and looks at me seriously. Her expression the same as the one she looked at me when I was locked in Cruor's cell. Every expression on her face quickly fades and her face takes on a pale tone that was not there before. I see her fall to her knees to the ground with her hands red with blood. This Bleddyn looks younger than the one before. He is the same Bleddyn I know now. I can see how desperation covers him when he looks at the inert body that is lying on the ground. When I look at the body I am surprised to find myself lying in front of it. I can hear him screaming my desperate name. I start walking back scared. Trying to get away from this nightmare I'm about to take another step back when I see him look up at me. His face dominated by fury. I see how his eyes transform into two black orbs and how small red veins appear under his eyes. His formerly flat teeth begin to form a sharper and elongated shape. His hands that used to hold my body are now open and his claws shine when the sun touches them. Bleddyn takes an attacking position and jumps towards me. When his body is about to collide with mine I feel pulled from my dream and I wake up sweating looking up at the wooden ceiling of the country house. I sit on the bed agitated and look towards the shadows that the curtain forms with the light of the moon. My heart beats agitated in my chest. I bring a hand to my chest and caress it trying to calm myself. I do not understand what this dream means or if it has a meaning I hope I never find out. I throw myself on the bed again and turn to the window. It is still night but I think I will not be able to sleep after this dream. It left me restless and worried. All thought is interrupted when I hear a howl from outside the house. A well-known howl. I quickly sit up on the bed again. My feet hit the cold floor and I get out of bed. I walk through the room to the door and out through it. I find myself in the dark and silent corridor. The dream still like a memory behind my head makes me feel paranoid and I don't want to leave the safety of my room. I swallow hard and with the last drop of courage that I have I walk quickly through the corridor and through the house and out. What I encounter when I walk through the exit door makes my legs shake and I almost fall to the ground. The Bleddyn Wolf is limping toward the house, its previously glossy coat now overshadowed by dirt and dried blood. When her eyes meet mine her body collapses against the ground and I see myself running towards her direction. "Bleddyn!" I scream his name as I kneel beside him. I touch her fur to try to calm her but I know that the one I'm trying to calm is me. I hear him cry in a pitiful way and it makes tears form in my eyes. Your body slowly begins to change. It's the first time I've seen him change. The process impresses me. His bones move inside his body and I hear them break and reposition themselves. Her skin stretches to fit her new shape and her fur begins to shed, leaving her skin bare. Her transformation hurts and takes her last drop of strength. I see him close his eyes and lie on the ground without moving. A noise coming from the forest catches my attention and I can see Lorcan running towards us when I look up. "What happened?" He asks when he reaches our side. "I don’t know." I answer him. "I heard him howling and when I went outside he was already like this." Lorcan looks at me concerned. "We better take it inside." I see Lorcan reach down and lift Bleddyn's languishing body into his arms and begin to carry him inside. I follow them in silence. When I see that Lorcan is going to tend Bleddyn on the old sofa in the living room, my mouth speaks for itself and I tell him to take him to my room. Loran looks at me for a couple of seconds as if wondering if I'm sure and takes it to my room and lays it on my bed. "I should let the girls know that Bleddyn is here." I nod my head and watch him leave my room. It's the first time I've seen him so serious. My attention turns to Bleddyn again and I watch him breathe deeply on my bed. When I look at him more closely is when I see that he is naked. My gaze falls indistinctly on his waist, I follow the path of hair that runs from his navel to his pelvis. I run my gaze from that area and walk to the bed and take the sheet and cover him from the waist down. I stare at him for a few seconds before deciding to grab a towel and moisten it in the hall bathroom. I go to the kitchen and take a plastic bowl and fill it with water before going to the bedroom. I place the bowl on the floor next to the bed and begin cleaning Bleddyn's torso. As the dirt starts to come out I see cuts on her chest. They are like uneven scratches that are scattered all over the place. My brow furrows as I see that some are deep. As I clean the wounds I see how the shallow ones are closing, it is as if they are waiting to be cleaned to begin to close. I hear him complaining in his dream when he brushed the towel over his chest. I don't dare to go down any further, scared with the reaction he might take. I don't know why I'm helping him. There is something in my mind that tells me to help him, that he needs my help. I amuse myself cleaning his face, I had forgotten how beautiful he is. Or at least I had tried. A throat clearing catches my attention and pulls me out of my bubble. I look towards the door and see the guys standing at the door. Lorcan has a giant smile on his face and he holds back a laugh when he sees my shocked face. "What were you doing?" Lorcan asks me. "Nothing." I respond by dropping the towel in the bowl of water, causing a few drops to splash on the floor. "If you want we can go and continue with your indecent inspection." Enyo comments. I look at her with the best angry face I can but this only makes them laugh. Ascia looks at me like she can understand me. Her look is that of a friend who understands why you act a certain way. "No. I ... I better go." I tell them getting out of bed and quickly leaving the room. I hear the laughter of the three when I am walking away down the hall. Embarrassed, I walk faster and stop in the living room, not wanting to go out of the house. I sit on the old sofa and stare at the wall waiting for the boys to come out of the room to tell me what is happening and why Bleddyn is in that state. I can't help but worry about him. At some point I will have fallen asleep because when I open my eyes the first thing I see is Bleddyn kneeling in front of me as if nothing happened. "Hello Minthie."
