The whole night had been full of tossing and turning, the inability to go to sleep very much an annoyance, especially as I stood outside the Alpha’s office, quietly waiting after snagging an Omega who was moving through the halls to awaken her Alpha. The very idea had left the young one fearful and I wanted to growl. “You tell him that Alpha Derrick is waiting for him and Luna Abigail.” That sent her scurrying.
I had spent much of the night thinking about how I was going to approach this. First, I would ask about the Omega situation in my room. I needed to find the Sweet Scented Omega with that odd scent to her. I would have her in my arms before this day was through—I would demand it. My father had emailed me a few more times during the night, obviously unable to sleep himself. The man didn’t have my mother anymore nor had he found a second chance mate. For wolves his age, being without their mate was hard.
My human mother had died of illness that no wolfen doctor could stop. They tried—Goddess, they tried. I pulled in a deep breath. It had been over ten years since she had passed away. The Goddess graced the human mates of wolves with long life, she did not protect them from human ailment, which was why our doctors worked tirelessly to try and find cures for things like cancer and other things. My mother died at thirty eight years old, when I was only eighteen—I was fifty seven now, my father two hundred and ten. He had spent over one hundred years searching for the woman of his dreams—his fated mate.
And cancer had taken her like a thief in the night. They had been mated for eighteen years. He had come across her during her first year of college when he was also there for more education. My father had many degrees—in the wolfen world, that was very common to have. My father had barely looked over the age of twenty five—the joys of Wolfen Lifespan. My sister sometimes blames herself for my mother’s death—as she was diagnosed with cancer when my sister had been a pup in my mother’s womb. My mother had refused treatment until she was born and then, she was gone a little over a year later.
My sister never knew my mother, raised with the help of my aunts and grandmother who still lived and now helped my father as Luna until I took the throne as Alpha King with my Luna. My father had many more years ahead of him, was not planning on stepping down until I had my Luna in my arms. But, he was also wanting to give us time to enjoy our lives as a mated pair. ‘I did not get that, Derrick—your grandfather died not two years after your mother and I mated—you were still a toddler when I became king—I will do my best to remain as king so you and your mate can have a somewhat normal life.’
Normal, like such a thing could happen in our life. We were Wolfen Royalty. I shook my head with a smile as I stood looking out the window. The Alpha’s office was at the end of a long corridor, where a large window looked out towards the Gamma house. The Beta house was in front of the Alpha House, with the Gamma and Beta House to the East and West. My Unit was awake, I could feel them even in my mind—and what I heard from my Unit, the poor Omega would certainly need therapy. She had not spoken once all night or even spoken her name. That worried me—was she mute? Was there a problem with her voice? Or was she forced into silence? Was she punished?
My wolf bristled in my mind, his presence pushing forward at the idea of an Omega—one of his subjects—being treated like that. ‘Easy—we will deal with these wolves.’ I thought to him, earning a grunt of approval from him before I turned to the scent of the Alpha and Luna, the sound of their hurried steps. When they appeared, they were both smiling, though I could see the worry in their eyes. I did not return the smile—no, because I had several things I needed to deal with. “Holt—text my father and tell him that the Alpha and Luna have arrived and I would like our plan to go through.” I thought with an easy mindlink to him, knowing he wouldn’t understand everything, but he would do what I said.
“Alpha Derrick? The Omega said you were waiting on us?” Alpha Michael asked as he came closer and looked at me with concern in his eyes, a tone of curiosity in his voice.
“Yes, I needed to speak to you about a few things,” I said before motioning to the door of his office. “Please, I think privacy would be appropriate for our conversation.” I didn’t want this done before his whole pack and I knew most Alpha Offices were built for total privacy. I waited until the door was opened and I walked ahead of them and waited for him to take his place at his desk. Even I was not rude enough to sit behind another Alpha’s desk—however, I also knew it was a powerful powerplay and I had that in my back pocket.
“So, what would you like to speak about, Alpha Derrick?” Luna Abigail asked as she stood beside her seated mate and I wanted to growl. My mate would have a seat beside me, not forced to stand behind me. Either she would be sitting beside me behind my desk or in my lap. Never behind me—she was my equal and I her protector.
“I entered my suite last night and smelt the scent of another—I’m assuming an Omega who was assigned to prepare my suite?” I asked, watching the two of them look at each other and then return their gaze to me before nodding. “I would like to see her—I want her brought to me as soon as possible.”
“Was there a problem with your room, Alpha Derrick? I assure you, if there was, we will make sure she is properly handled and punished,” the Alpha said, earning a growl from my wolf and the feeling of his eyes behind my own felt. My eyes must of flash gold, because I saw the Luna flinch at the feeling.
“I did not say there was a problem, Alpha—I said I wanted to see the Omega who was in my suite,” I said, not needing to explain my reasoning for the request. They knew I did not need to explain myself, yet here they were wanting explanations. I wanted to wrap my hand around his throat. “And there is another issue—one my father and I are very concerned about—your Omegas.”
“Our Omegas?”
“Yes—as you know—the Silverfang Pack abolished Omegas being used as breeders since before my grandfather was king—yet there is clear evidence of that being done here—my father is not at all impressed and is quite angry about this,” I said, watching as a flash of fear hit the Luna’s features. “Now, are you going to explain?”
“Of course—we are a warrior pack—we require many wolves to be born yearly to keep our numbers—so, our Omega’s volunteer to be breeders,” he explained, but I could tell by the way his heart rate increased that he was lying. I wouldn’t call it out—not yet. I hummed and thought about these words and smiled.
“Very well—my father would like me to speak to a number of your Omegas—interview them,” I said, watching as the two of them looked between each other. “They will be randomly picked and my father has authorized the use of the Royal Alpha Aura to be used to ensure that all Alpha Orders are broken so that we can get to the truth.” And that had the proper reaction. Total worry and fear on the Luna’s face, before she turned her head slightly, her eyes closing for a moment before they opened again. She was mind-linking someone, likely to tell them to gather the Omegas up or something. I would deal with that later.
“And now—the last issue—my unit was visited by one of your Delta’s last night,” I said as he let my fingers rub together softly. “With an Omega for their entertainment.” Now, my voice dropped and I let my aura press forward. “She was scared, she was silent, and it is very obvious she is use to such treatment—like she is used as some type of slave?” I flicked my eyes between the two of them.
“Yes—well—she broke pack law years ago and she does not have any rank—she is called Omega, but she isn’t even that,” he said, his voice casual as if what he just told me was fine. I just stared at him, unable to even process what he said. Broke Pack Law?
“I see—and was this broken law reported to through the Kingdom system, which has been protocol for the last two hundred years?” I asked as he pulled out my phone and logged into the Kingdom system. “And her name? So I can look up her profile?” I had my eyes on the phone, not looking at them as I waited. When nothing came, I looked at them and saw how they seemed to just stare are me. “I need her name—all Wolfen who are part of a pack are given a profile at their birth with their name, parents name and ranking.” Michael swallowed and the Luna said nothing. “Very well.” I stood and brushed off my pants before walking towards the desk. “Move, Alpha Michael.”
“I’m sorry?”
“I said, move,” my voice spoke with clear Alpha order tone and aura, forcing the two of them to move from their place so I could log into their system. Once I did, I felt my blood begin to boil. Not a single Omega had been logged. Births of pups record with no parents listed except the fathers. They were operating a Breeding Ring. I was going to destroy it. Picking up my phone, I dialed my father’s number.
“Derrick?”
“How are things going?”
“Oh, I would say—soon enough—also, I’ve spoken with another—that should be ready soon,” he said, keeping his words low, but also keeping them spoken in a way that didn’t reveal anything. It was exactly what I needed, because it the idiots in this room knew what was going on, they would likely assemble things.
“Thank You.” I stood and slipped the phone into my pocket before looking across at them, feeling my wolf press forward, my eyes likely flashing that golden color. All wolves had their own color, some were golden, others orange or red. Sometimes the colors changed as the wolf and human changed over time—growing stronger and more bold. Mine had always been a bright yellow and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. “Bring me the Omega who was in my room yesterday—now.” This was pure Alpha Aura and I watched as his Luna grabbed his arm to keep from going to her knees.
“Go, Abigail.”
“No—you, alpha-blood—you will go and find that Omega and bring her to me,” I growled, earning a flinch as I moved forward towards them, pressing my fury into my presence as I got closer.
