I awoke hours later, feeling the cool night air on my face. I was lying on the balcony, the stars twinkling above me. I pulled myself up, my head throbbing with a dull ache. I stumbled inside to find Alan still snoring on the couch. I didn't know what I had seen or if it was just a hallucination from all the alcohol.
The shimmering girl haunted my thoughts as I lay back down. I knew tomorrow would bring questions, and perhaps even more strange events, but for now, I had to rest. The mysteries of the night would have to wait until morning.
I woke up to Alan shaking me. I could hardly open my eyes.
Alan - "Rise and shine, bro!" His voice was annoyingly cheerful.
I tried to sit up properly, my head still throbbing.
Sebastian - "And why the hell are you so happy this morning?" I asked, clearly annoyed.
Alan - "Okay! Good morning to you too," he replied angrily.
Sebastian - "Why are you getting angry?" I yawned and tried to pull myself together.
Alan - "Nothing! I was happy about yesterday, but it’s clear to me now that you cannot be happy. You always will be the grumpy one," he sighed.
The moment Alan mentioned yesterday, I stood up abruptly, the memory of the girl with the shimmering glow around her body flashing in my mind.
Alan - "Where are you lost now?" he asked, looking puzzled.
Sebastian - "I saw a girl just one floor down," I said, scratching my head, trying to make sense of it.
Alan's eyes widened.
Alan - "Omg! Are you talking about a girl?" he teased.
Sebastian - "Why can’t you be serious for a second? I’m not going to tell you everything now," I replied, frustrated.
Alan - "Okay, okay! I’m sorry. It’s just that you never talk about any girl. It was a bit surprising to hear you mention one," he explained.
Sebastian - "I get it. Chill!" I took a deep breath.
Alan - "So, tell me more about her." he leaned in, his curiosity piqued.
Sebastian - "I was unable to see her face, but I’m damn sure she is my "Mate"," I said, the word 'mate' hanging heavily in the air.
Alan's expression changed to shock.
Alan - "Mate? Sebastian, do you know what you’re talking about?" he asked in a very serious tone.
Sebastian - "I know, and I think you are also aware of this," I replied, my voice steady.
Alan - "What are you trying to say? I have only heard about mates from Grandpa," his tone and expression grew more serious than I had ever seen.
I realized it was time to explain everything.
Sebastian - "Alan, I think we need to talk now, about me, about us, and about that girl."
We moved to the couch, and I began recounting the events that had led to this moment.
Sebastian - "Alan, there's something you need to know about me. I'm not just an ordinary guy."
Alan looked at me, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and intrigue.
Alan - "What are you talking about?"
I sighed, trying to find the right words. But then I realized that he hasn't turned 21 yet. So it is better for him that his grandpa, Paul, explains the situation to him. So, I just gave him a heads-up.
Sebastian - "We need to meet Paul to explain everything to you and to myself as well. Also, last night, the girl I saw, she’s important, Alan. She’s tied to my destiny."
Alan sat back, his mind reeling from the revelation.
Alan - "So, this girl... she’s your mate?"
Sebastian - "In our world, a mate is someone destined to be with us, someone who complements our powers and our destiny. She’s the missing piece, Alan. Finding her means everything," I explained.
Alan took a deep breath, trying to process everything.
Alan - "Why didn’t you tell me any of this before?"
Sebastian - "I got to know about this yesterday only, because of the Oracle Stone," I said softly.
Alan - "Okay, now I am freaking out. You are trying to say that mates really exist? And my Grandpa was serious about this all the time and I just thought that it was all a story."
Sebastian - "Okay, then before talking to him, please tell me how much you know," I questioned him, hoping he would say something so that I could explain to him.
Alan - "Oh, okay! I heard about this in stories that our bloodline comes from a very ancient civilization, and we have special abilities which help us protect our family from the Heartless."
Sebastian - "Okay, continue," I said.
Alan - "And about mates, as you mentioned, mates are our partners. According to my Grandpa, we all have our mates, and we can be blessed with the next generation only if we are married to our mates. Also, for us, we have only one mate for a life."
Sebastian - "Alan, you keep saying 'us,' but do you know exactly what you guys are?"
Alan laughed.
Alan - "Yes, bro, Grandpa calls us The Warriors, and we come from the lycan bloodline." He laughed again.
I stared at him blankly, thinking that it was going to be hard to explain to him about us.
Alan - "Why are you not laughing, bro? Isn't it hilarious? Lycans, werewolves." He laughed again.
Sebastian - "No, it's not," I answered him with a serious tone.
Alan - "What?"
Sebastian - "We need to leave. Call Paul and tell him that we are coming, and I need to talk to him about the upcoming full moon."
Alan - "But why?"
Sebastian - "Do as I say, Alan, and please be serious for me," I pleaded.
Alan - "Okay!"
As we finished our discussion, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much larger. I felt ready to face whatever destiny had in store.
We quickly packed our things and checked out of the hotel. The drive to Paul's place was filled with a tense silence. Alan was visibly anxious, constantly glancing at me, trying to make sense of everything. I was lost in my thoughts, replaying the vision of the girl with the shimmering glow over and over in my mind.
When we arrived, Paul was already waiting for us at the door, his face serious. He ushered us inside and led us to his study, closing the door behind us.
Paul - "Sebastian, what’s going on?" Paul asked, his eyes boring into mine.
Sebastian - "I saw her, Paul. I saw my mate," I said, my voice steady.
Paul's expression changed to one of shock and then understanding. He looked at Alan, his face softening.
Paul - Congratulations Sebastian, and "Alan, it’s time you accept the truth. Everything I’ve told you about our bloodline, about mates, it’s all real."
Alan's eyes widened.
Alan - "You mean... we’re really...?"
Paul - "Yes, Alan. We are lycans, and our mates are essential to our existence and our powers," Paul confirmed.
Sebastian - "And the girl I saw, she is my Mate." I added.
Paul nodded.
Paul - "Then we must find her. She holds the key to your destiny, Sebastian."
Alan sat back, trying to absorb everything.
Alan - "So, what do we do now?"
Paul - "We prepare." "The full moon is coming, and with it, the first Transformation. We need to be ready for it."
Alan - Okay, Okay! But grandpa can you explain more about us please?
Paul - Sure my boy! He gave him a light smile.
As Paul spoke, I felt a sense of resolve wash over me.
