Adam grunted, jolting awake. His eyes scanned the area, blurry and unfocused, while his head throbbed along with his racing pulse. He pulled himself up, looking over to this right and not seeing Terrie on the table. So he quickly looked over to the other side, seeing her curled up on the chairs. He knew she had to be there all night. Terrie wasn’t the easiest person to convince to put her trust in someone she didn’t know, and even when she realized she could, she still had her defenses. He didn’t know all she had been through, and so he refrained from being overly judgmental of her. Besides, he had his own hangups.
