It was officially day nine. Terrie kept turning that over in her mind on repeat. Nine days of pure torture of every sort, but they were still alive and still together. She turned her head to gaze upon the sleeping man still lying next to her. His feet were wrapped around hers though the rest of his body was distant. Maybe it was the trauma of this experience, outweighing the fears built up around men from her previous trauma, but she couldn’t evade the thought no matter how hard she tried, that she wished his hand were still on her. The weight and heat of them were reassuring. Even though at the moment, he was extremely weak and couldn’t protect her if she needed him to, she still felt safe with him. Then again, it could just be the bond that forms from shared near-death experiences
