Valindra looked so surprised when I showed up at the village, and I could see her checking the sky to make sure she hadn’t lost track of time. The sun was just barely on its way down, and when she saw it wasn’t after sundown yet, she looked a bit calmer.
She walked over to me as I slowed down my horse and then dismounted. She had a cup in one hand, and her cheeks were a slightly darker pink. It was clear she had been dancing and drinking a bit.
“I still have time,” she remarked.
I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her and leaned down to kiss her.
“I know,” I reassured her.
“What are you doing here then?” she inquired, but it didn’t sound like she was accusing me.
“Thought it was time I went out to meet the people a little more closely as well,” I informed her.
