Chapter 38

Author's POV…

"Where am I?" Zelda suddenly asked, looking around, she was a bit scared as the ward felt so unfamiliar to her.

"Zelda, don't you remember me?" Harrison asked and she held her head.

"Maybe we should leave her to rest," Jolene suggested but Zelda suddenly spoke up.

"I remember you but how did I get here?" She queried while looking around the ward.

"We found you in the woods close to the steam. Actually, we've been searching for you for some says,"

Zelda looked at him swiftly as her heart flew, why were they searching for her?

"Why? What happened? Did the antidote not work on Jolene?" She queried and Jolene looked at her surprisingly.

How did she know her name?

"It actually did, you saved her life and she had been looking for you so she could appreciate and reward you." Harrison said and Zelda stood up all of a sudden.

"I don't need your rewards, thanks so much for helping me, I need to get back." She hurried but Jolene suddenly blocked the door.

"You just called me by my name, do I know you from somewhere?" Jolene asked , studying her closely, Zelda looked away.

"I don't know you, please I need to go." She pleaded as her eyes grew watery.

Jolene noticed the fear in her eyes, something must be wrong, she is probably hiding something.

Jolene grabbed her hands and forcefully made her sit back on the bed.

"We found you covered in blood which means you were attacked and you're still thinking of going back there? You're not leaving here until you tell me everything about yourself and how you ended up covered in blood." Jolene said and Zelda gulped so hard.

"I am not a Lycan, what if I get punished for…" Harrison interrupted her immediately.

"You can't get punished, okay? We accept all species as far as you're plain minded and you wouldn't cause any havoc or bring trouble to our kingdom."Harrison said and Zelda sighed.

"You did a wonderful thing by saving the life of our Lycan king and there's a huge reward for that."

Zelda suddenly faced Jolene and smiled lightly.

"Who would have ever known that Jolene, who was once bullied, would ever become the king of the Lycan kingdom. I am so glad you have this far,"

Jolene looked at Zelda suspiciously, it seems Zelda knows her a bit.

"Who are you?"

"It's been long so I guess you must have forgotten about me? You saved me from a group of bullies five years ago and got beaten instead." Zelda said and Jolene's memory got ignited.

She recalled her encounter with Zelda and gasped,

"You're that girl? Oh my God, how could you remember after all these years?" Jolene queried astonishingly and Zelda smiled.

"How can I ever forget the one who saved me from getting beaten? I am glad I was able to return the favor,"

Jolene suddenly hugged her and Harrison smiled.

She could still remember when she came across a young girl of her age getting bullied by the stronger she-wolves.

Knowing fully well that she was weak like an ordinary human, she just had to ignore them

But she couldn't stand their bullying act and challenged them. That young girl was Zelda, who was also the same age as her.

She hurried Zelda to run away while she handled the girls. That fateful day, she got the beating of her life, they bullies made sure she got well beaten to their satisfaction before they left her.

Zelda came out from her gudin6 place in tears but Jolene sighed instead, she advised Zelda to run far away from them and make sure she avoided her in every way she could.

They then parted ways after Zelda thanked her wholeheartedly.

Now faith had brought them together again.

"Why are you living near the stream? Aren't you supposed to be at the Sharp Edges pack? Why are you living alone?" Jolene asked curiously and Zelda sighed.

"Well, I am an orphan and have been by myself all these years. I don't know which pack I am from and have been roaming about for years. I decided to settle at an abandoned house IN the woods near the stream, I just had to accept life like that." Zelda muttered, Harrison and Jolene felt so sorry for her.

They wondered what she must have passed through all these years by herself.

"Why were you covered in blood?"

Zelda's mood turned gloomy and a huge lump formed in her throat, her chest tightened and tears slipped out of her eyes.

"My goodness! What's wrong Zelda?" Jolene asked worriedly.

"I am fine, I am sorry for breaking down in front of you." She apologized with a fake smile and dried her eyes.

Jolene knew something was wrong, she wondered if she was still getting bullied.

"Tell me everything!" Jolene demanded and Zelda gulped.

"I have been working as a slave for the rogues,"

"What!" Harrison and Jolene chorused with widened eyes.

"They sent me on errands and threatened me if I tried to disobey them. I was getting sick of them because they don't only send me on errands, they take advantage of me in the most brutal way ever. I couldn't endure anymore, I lost it and insulted them, they attacked me and wanted to kill me but I escaped miraculously." Zelda explained as more tears fell out from her eyes.

Jolene began rubbing her back soothingly as her eyes became watery, it's not always easy for orphans.

"How many are they?"

"They are three in number, they are very dangerous."

"You're going to get your revenge on them with my help, just wipe your tears and feel relaxed, I am going to help you." Jolene said and Zelda smiled.

"You've never stopped being kind, thank you so much. I am so glad to see that you're alive, have you found the culprit?" Zelda asked.

Jolene looked at Harrison and he spoke up.

"Yes but everything is sorted, how did you get the antidote?"

"I was actually washing my face at the stream when I felt something, I brought it out and noticed that it was the antidote for Strychnine poison. I brought it to your Beta immediately," Zelda explained and Jolene took her hands.

"Thank you so much, I would have died without that antidote."

Paulene, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, smirked, and she left the clinic immediately.

"So it was a filthy thing that found the antidote and ruined all my plans? I would make sure she pays for it!"
