Chapter 43

** A week later **

Jolene's POV…

"You are faster by two minutes, " Harrison announced after checking his watch. I jogged towards him breathing heavily and collected the bottle of water he was holding.

I then gulped down the whole content and inhaled sharply.

I was out for my morning routine which is running around the forest within 15 minutes, it takes a normal person up to two hours.

"Whatever, let's get back, I am hungry." I yawned dramatically and he chuckled.

We began walking back to the pack house and silence ensued between us.

"What do you think about Zelda?" I suddenly asked and he squeezed his face.

"Firstly, I don't get your question and why do you ask?" He queried and I chuckled.

"It's a simple question Harrison, what do you think about Zelda?"

"Huh! I just see her as a friend and I think she is cool and quiet, she fits being your personal maid." He said and smiled.

I hope there is chemistry between both of them. I would be glad if they end up together.

I planned to confront the two of them to know if they have feelings for each other. So, I an confronting Harrison first,

"You like her?" I asked and he scoffed.

"Yeah as far as you do," he replied and I smacked his head. Why is he playing dumb?

"Ouch! What was that for?"

"I don't mean that kind of liking, do you feel something for her?" I asked again and his eyes widened.

"What! Where is that coming from?"

"I was right, you like her!" I exclaimed and he rolled his eyes.

"I don't like her that way, I don't feel anything for her at all, stop putting ideas into your head, she is not even my type " he scoffed and my face fell.

"Are you serious?"

"Wait, you think I feel something for her? Hell no!" He spat and I sighed.

So, I think it's a one sided love, Zelda obviously likes Harrison but he doesn't.

"But she is actually nice and calm, you should consider her, you both would make a good couple." I said and he laughed.

"Did she put you up to this?"

"No, she doesn't even know I am doing this,"

"Then why are you trying to merge us together?" He asked and I sighed.

"Because I don't want you to remain mateless, you aren't getting any younger, it's been four years since I've known you but I haven't seen you around any lady. Do you want to remain mateless till your last days?"

"Are you different from me?" He sneered and I scoffed.

"Mine is a different case, I am a king and I have goals to achieve, I had once had a mate too." I protested and he chuckled.

Well, that mate rejected me, who knows, I might remain mateless for life.

I don't even care if that happens, it would be hard for me to like any other man after what Maverick did to me.

If the moon goddess gives me a second chance mate, there's a high possibility that I might reject him.

Well, that's not even going to be possible because Lycans choose their mates by themselves.

"He is a huge jerk for doing that to you, it's his loss though, he lost a rare gem.' Harrison muttered and I chuckled.

"So you know that I am different from you?"

"Well, I actually like someone," he confessed and my face brightened up.

"Really?" I asked to be sure and he nodded positively.

"Wow! Tell me more about it,"

"Well, it was love at first sight and I've been head over heels for her for four years now." He revealed and I gasped.

Four years? That's a whole lot!

"She is actually beautiful and the woman of every man's dream, she is bold, determined, charismatic, sweet, lov…" I interrupted him immediately.

"That's enough,cut the appraisal, you're making me jealous."I joked and he laughed.

"Fine, she actually doesn't know I have feelings for her, I kept it to myself all these years because I knew she was never going to accept me. She doesn't like me at all," he said and I frowned.

Why would he conclude that? Is he a seer or something?

"You shouldn't conclude things based on your own point of view, have you ever approached her and confessed your feelings? Who knows, she might actually feel the same way for you but it's waiting for you to come first."

"So, are you saying I can confess my feelings to her?" He asked and I could sense the excitement in his voice.

"Why not? But be prepared for anything, I am sure she won't reject you, you're too handsome to be rejected." I teased him and he smiled.

"Thank you Alpha,"

"So, now, who is this lucky lady?" I asked and he kept mute.

" It's a secret," he whispered and I pinched his arm.

"Ouch! That hurts,"

"You have to tell me her name, even though you want to keep it from everyone, you must not keep it from me too." I pouted and he laughed.

"Okay, let me give you a clue, you know her alot and she is very close."

I snapped my fingers immediately, oh no! Could it be Paulene?

"Is it Paulene?" I asked and he hissed.

"You know how much I despise her, it can never be her, even if that happens, I am going to get a new heart. It's an abomination if I fall for a devil," he said with so much hatred and I sighed.

Well, Paulene brought this upon herself so I am not going to defend her because he is right.

"Is it one of the maids?" I guessed and he rolled his eyes.

"Hell no! It's someone close,"

" Fine, tell me who it is, I am dying to know." I cried out pulling his arms playfully.

I do hide my toughness anytime we are alone and behave like a kid around him, we've been together for years so he has become a big part of my life.

"It's you," he suddenly said and I dropped his arms.

"Do you have a knack for making silly jokes?" I asked, squeezing my face and he smiled.

"I am serious,"

"So you won't tell me? I am going to find out soon, there's nothing Jolene can not fish out." I said with a wink.

Silence ensued between us as we drew near the pack house,

"So, I've decided that I would be visiting the sharp edges pack by next month," I revealed and he stopped.

"Really?" He asked and I nodded.

"The right time is here now to clear off that memory of me being dead," I sighed heavily and continued walking.

"It's not a must to visit them, they all treated you badly so you should just forget about the Sharp Edge pack and act like they don't exist."

"My foster family was different from them, they took me as their daughter and treated me well, even my foster brother was so nice to me. I miss them and badly want to see them after four years of disappearance." I muttered sadly.

I have really missed them a lot, they played a huge part in my success by bringing me up in the right manner.

They never for once made me feel like I wasn't their daughter, they were the best gifts u have ever received.

They must have aged a bit and as for Collins, he would have grown to become a mature guy.

I miss them all,"

"Is that the main reason why you're going?"

"And also prove Maverick wrong about me being weak, I want to show him the real Jolene. I want those who treated me badly to feel so ashamed. I want Maverick to regret his actions and also feel that he had lost a gold." I said with a smile and determination.

Harrison wasn't looking bright and happy, I guess he isn't in support of me visiting the Sharp Edges pack.

I wonder what his reasons are though? Is he worried that I might get hurt or get reminded of my old memories?

"Don't worry, I will be fine." I assured and he sighed.

"Visiting them is not necessary but I will have to go with you, I can't allow you to go there alone." He muttered.

"You know that can happen, you have to stay back to monitor and take care of my kingdom. It won't be a nice idea if we both leave, things would go wrong. I am not going alone, I am going with Zelda." I announced and his eyes widened.

"Zelda? Are you choosing her over me? Who is going to protect you? Zelda is just your personal maid," he protested and I squeezed my face.

Why is he so worked up about it?

"Not like I am a kid, I can protect myself, Zelda would just follow me as my escort."

We soon got to the pack house and I went in immediately.

"You should have a re-think Jolene, I have to go with you, how can you go without me?"
