Chapter Fourteen: The Choice That Changed Everything Amina sat on the cold floor, her back against the wall, her mind refusing to give in to fear. She thought about everything—her past, her pain, and the love she tried so hard to bury. And Daniel. No matter how much she tried to deny it… He was still her heart. The door opened suddenly. she jumped to her feet. “Daniel!” But something was wrong. His face was empty. His eyes… distant. “Daniel?” she said again, more slowly this time. He stepped inside, the door closing behind him. “I came to take you out,” he said quietly. Amina frowned. “What do you mean?” “They’re letting you go,” he replied. Her heart lifted—then dropped just as quickly. “What about you?” Daniel looked away. “I’m staying.” “No,” she said immediately. “No, that’s not happening.” “It’s the only way,” he said. “This ends with me.” Tears filled her eyes. “Why does it always have to be like this? Why do you always choose to leave me?” “This isn’t me leaving,” he said softly. “This is me protecting you… one last time.” Amina shook her head, stepping closer. “I don’t want protection if it means losing you.” Daniel’s voice broke slightly. “If I don’t do this, they won’t stop. You’ll never be safe.” “I don’t care!” she cried. “We’ll find another way!” He reached out, gently holding her face. “There is no other way,” he whispered. Tears streamed down her cheeks. “Then I’m staying with you.” Daniel closed his eyes, pain written all over his face. “You can’t,” he said. “I won’t leave,” she insisted. Silence filled the room. Then suddenly— Daniel pulled her into a tight embrace. “I love you,” he whispered. Amina froze. Those words hit deeper than anything else. “I love you too,” she cried. And in that moment— They both knew. This was goodbye.
