Chapter Thirteen: The Breaking Point
The guards moved in fast.
Amina’s grip on Daniel tightened as rough hands pulled them apart.
“No!” she cried, struggling against them. “Don’t touch him!”
Daniel fought back, his voice filled with anger. “Let her go! This has nothing to do with her!”
But the more they resisted, the stronger the grip became.
“Enough,” the man’s voice cut through the chaos.
Everything stopped.
Amina’s chest rose and fell rapidly as she looked at Daniel. Fear filled her eyes—but so did determination.
“I won’t leave you,” she whispered.
Daniel shook his head slightly, his expression filled with pain. “You might have to.”
The man stepped forward again, calm as ever. “You both still don’t understand the situation.”
Amina glared at him. “Then make us understand.”
A faint smile touched his lips. “Love is your weakness. And weakness… is something we eliminate.”
Amina’s heart pounded.
“What do you mean?” she asked, her voice unsteady.
He turned to the guards. “Separate them.”
“No!” Daniel shouted, trying to break free.
But they were already pulling Amina away.
“Daniel!” she screamed, reaching for him.
Their fingers slipped apart.
And just like that—
She was taken.
Amina was thrown into a dimly lit room, the door slamming shut behind her. The silence that followed was suffocating.
Her body trembled, but her mind raced.
Think, Amina. Think.
She refused to believe this was the end.
Across the building, Daniel was on his knees, held down by two guards.
“You’ve forced my hand,” the man said, looking down at him.
Daniel’s eyes burned with anger. “If you touch her—”
“You’ll do what?” the man interrupted calmly. “You’re already ours.”
Daniel clenched his fists.
“Here’s what’s going to happen,” the man continued. “You prove your loyalty… or she pays the price.”
Daniel’s heart dropped.
“What do you want?” he asked through gritted teeth.
The man leaned closer.
“Break your weakness,” he said softly.
Daniel froze.
Because for the first time—
He didn’t know if he could.
