Elijah was busy with his little cup of vanilla ice cream, swinging his legs from the cafe chair. Jenny kept brushing his hair gently, her eyes following every move he made , protective, calm, steady.
Across from them, Suzanne watched the two with a soft, overwhelmed expression. She kept opening her mouth like she wanted to speak but closing it again, unsure where to begin.
Finally, she took a deep breath.
“Jenny…”
Her voice came out fragile.
“…salamat for agreeing to talk.”
Jenny nodded. “You deserved to know.”
“Hindi ko ine–expect,” Suzanne whispered, eyes falling on Elijah again. “Hindi talaga.”
Jenny forced a small smile. “Ako rin, Suz. I wasn’t planning any of this.”
Suzanne leaned forward, bracing her elbows on the table.
