CHAPTER 5

2740 Words
DARIO MONTGOMERY I run through the woods, fast as lightning, guided by her screams and the approaching scent of the vampires. With a thunderous howl, I accelerate, hatred boiling with every step. Finally, I see her: Madison is lying on the ground, tears streaming down her face as one of the vampires leans in to bite her neck. In a leap, I pounce on the attacker, pushing him away from her with force. I tear at the vampire's skin with my sharp fangs, an irrational wave of fury dominating me at the sight of the woman carrying my child, hurt and vulnerable. For a moment, I catch Madison’s gaze, her wide eyes filled with fear and shock. She is bleeding, her face and clothes stained, but she still tries to drag herself away from the chaos. One of the vampires shoots at me, and the pain in my shoulder makes me roar in anger, but I don’t hesitate. I knock each of the attackers down with brutality and precision, the protective instinct moving me frantically. When it’s all over, I turn to Madison, who now curls up, pointing a gun at me. Her eyes are wide, filled with disbelief and dread. And then I recognize her. Madison is standing there, the same stripper I saw dance, the same woman who now carries my baby. The same girl with whom I felt a strange connection when she danced for me. The stubborn girl. “Don’t come near me!”, she screams, her voice trembling but determined as she tries to raise the gun with shaky hands. I raise my hands, trying to calm her, but she fires. The shot grazes past, missing its target, and Madison runs, shooting toward the forest. “Stay away from me!”, she shouts, and I follow after her, knowing I need to reach her before she gets hurt even more. I run, catching up to her in a few seconds, gripping her arm firmly and pushing her against a nearby tree so that she stops fleeing and listens to me. Madison's eyes widen as she feels my weight against her body, her gaze narrowing into a mix of fury and terror. “Let me go!”, she bellows, her eyes brimming with rage. I see the terror hidden behind her brave facade, something that squeezes my chest. She is scared, and rightly so. Madison raises her hand and, in a desperate impulse, punches me in the face. The blow takes me by surprise, and I grunt, holding her tighter, but feeling a pang of almost... admiration. She is brave, that much is clear. In another situation, I would find this funny. Not just anyone would dare to hit a Lycan in the face. She, even shaken, doesn’t easily intimidate, which awakens a strange pride in me. She is the mother of my child, and seeing that courage only makes me respect her even more, even amidst the chaos and fear. I brush my hand over her face, trying to push away a blood-soaked strand of hair that has fallen over her face, but she glares at me with anger and fear, pulling her face away to avoid my touch. The tension in the look I cast upon Madison is almost palpable. I am returning to my human form, naked and vulnerable. I see her eyes widen, shocked, unable to look away. I let out a deep sigh. “Stubborn girl, I found you...”, I murmur, keeping my gaze locked on hers, as if the rest of the world ceased to exist. She shudders and takes a deep breath, piecing things together in her mind. “You...”, the word barely escapes her lips, her voice trembling. I interrupt her with a low voice, trying to reassure her. “I’m not going to hurt you...” She exhales, trembling, her hand pressing against her chest. But before she can say more, I notice a movement behind her and freeze. My eyes widen as I see the vampire, who had barely been moving before, lunge at Madison with exposed fangs. “Madison, watch out!”, I try to reach her, but it’s too late. The vampire is fast. In seconds, he has her by the shoulders and sinks his teeth into her neck. Her scream echoes through the forest, a pain that cuts through my heart. I charge forward, grab the vampire, and throw him to the ground. I grab a nearby rock and strike his head repeatedly until he becomes just a lifeless body. My breath is rapid as I turn my attention back to Madison. She is falling, collapsing toward the ground, and I catch her before she hits the floor. Blood drips from her neck, staining my hands and the ground. Desperate, I pull her closer. “Damn it, Madison, you’re going to be okay... stay awake!”, I whisper, my voice choked with fear. She opens her eyes with difficulty, and a single tear rolls down her face. “You... know my name?”, her question, hits me hard. I nod, keeping my eyes locked on hers. “I know many things about you, stubborn girl...” She lets out a weak smile. “Save me, Superman...” My chest tightens upon hearing the nickname. But there’s no time for sentimentality. “Madison!”, I call her name, but her eyes close, and she faints in my arms. Without hesitation, I lift her up and run through the forest, determined to take her to a safe place. I watch her pale face, marked by pain, feeling a fierce need to protect her, to protect the baby she carries. It’s an inexplicable connection, something I’ve never experienced but pulses within me like an unbreakable promise. Upon arriving at my apartment, I decide that a hospital is too risky; she’s seen too much. I gently lay her on a bed and, fearing she might try to escape when she wakes up, I bind her wrists with some ties. Taking care of her neck wound, I breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that the bite wasn’t deep. I stay beside her while she sleeps, my hesitant hand moving toward her belly. An involuntary smile appears on my lips. The baby… our baby. I barely know him, but I already feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility and pride. When Madison starts to stir, her eyes flutter open fully. She stares at me, confused. “Where am I?” I lean in, my voice firm. “You’re safe.” She tries to lift her arms but feels the ties tighten and gives me an indignant look. “Why the hell did you tie me up, you pervert?” I hold back a smile. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it while you were unconscious." She looks around, testing her wrists. "Let me go now!" I sigh, pondering. "Promise me you won't do anything stupid?" "You kidnapped me!" "I saved you!" She glares at me, defiant. "I don't know what you are, but let me go now!" After a brief hesitation, I undo the bindings, and Madison sits up on the bed, backing away. "Where am I?", she asks, suspicious. "In my house." "Why?" "This is the safest place for you." She raises an eyebrow, skeptical. "Why?" "Because you have something that is mine." I see shock wash over her face as her instincts finally connect the dots. She puts a hand on her belly in a protective gesture. "Yes, Madison. The baby you’re carrying is my child. We need to talk." With trembling hands, she follows me to the office. I place a contract on the table, and she furrows her brow, confused. "What is this?", she asks, suspicious. "Your freedom.", I observe her expression as she digests my words. "I’m not going to be your prisoner!" Her eyes shine with determination. "You are the mother of my child, Madison. I won’t let anything hurt him, and it seems you have a natural ability to attract danger." She rolls her eyes, annoyed. I explain that by signing the contract, she will have safety, protection, and a generous amount of money. "I don’t know if I can accept this.", she murmurs, looking at the contract. I step closer, my voice firm. "You need to sign. With this, you’ll have my protection. Nothing will hurt you, and you’ll have everything you need." "But I’ll be trapped here...", she crosses her arms, looking at me skeptically. Then, defiantly, she asks: "What are you?" I look at her, thinking about how to explain. "Would you believe me if I told you?" She shakes her head, sarcastic. "Try." "I’m a werewolf. The leader of a pack." She laughs, incredulous, but hesitates as she remembers the night before. "That doesn’t exist." "You saw it with your own eyes." "And those... monsters?", her voice wavers. "Vampires. And the baby you’re carrying is important not just to me, but to my entire pack. This baby can save lives… or start a war." She stares at me, and I see the conflict in her eyes. Madison stands before a world she never imagined existed, and I realize the weight that each of my words carries for her. MADISON CARTER I continue to stare at him, trying to process everything that is happening. His gaze is intense, and I feel my heart racing as I finally manage to ask: "What’s your name?" "Dario." I can’t believe I’m carrying the child of a very rich werewolf. A Supreme Alpha. He is everything I never dreamed of, and at the same time, he is what I fear the most. "I have a job and…", I start, but he interrupts me. "I’ve already taken care of that." "What do you mean?" What did he do? "Your contract at that place has been terminated. I bought your freedom, Madison." My world collapses in an instant. I widen my eyes, unable to process. He did the thing I always wanted. He bought my freedom, and what does that mean for my future? The future of the baby? I looked at the contract he placed on the table. The words are clear, and a chill runs down my spine when I see that the baby is his after it's born. I feel my hand on my belly, lightly touching it as I remember what happened. The men who are after me are vampires, and only a werewolf can keep me and my baby safe. A wave of fear washes over me, and I can’t help but ask: "What happens if I don’t sign?" He steps closer, his golden eyes shining as if hypnotizing me. "You have no choice. If you don’t sign, I will use every means to get that baby. I’m offering you a lot of money for it." The amount he mentions could make me rich, but that would mean abandoning my baby. The thought breaks my heart. I look at him, searching for some empathy and some understanding. "You’re hurt and scared. I’ll give you a few hours to think about it all. Feel free to enjoy the apartment, but you won’t leave this place." He leaves the office, and I take a deep breath, looking around. I’m trapped in a world I don’t understand, surrounded by luxury I’ve never known. What is happening to my life? What do I do now? I feel a mix of relief and apprehension as my thoughts whirl. I slowly stand up, leaving the office. The hallway is empty, and the opulence of the place leaves me even more dazed. The walls are adorned with artwork, and the marble floor shines under the soft light. I can’t believe all of this belongs to him, the man who now controls my destiny. I continue walking, observing every detail. The house is immense, and I can’t help but get lost in my own curiosity. I arrive in the kitchen and see a table full of fresh fruits. I can’t resist and grab some grapes, popping one into my mouth. The taste is sweet, but soon the bitter flavor of reality returns. I should be dead. A vampire bit me, and yet I’m here, safe, because of Dario. As I walk further down the hallway, I feel the need to explore and understand where I am. I find a room with dark colors, and the sound of the shower echoes from within. The door is almost open, and a strange feeling washes over me. I don’t know why, but I approach, my heart racing. With slow steps, I gently push the door open and then look inside. Dario is there, showering, with his back to me. The water runs over every part of his strong body, and my breath catches as I see his muscular figure. He has his head down, and I notice a large tattoo on his back—a snake design that coils along his skin. It is something powerful and intimidating. My instinct tells me to leave, but curiosity is stronger. I hold onto the door, but gravity seems to conspire against me, and as I try to step back, I stumble and fall into the bathroom. Damn. It’s the last thing I wanted. Dario turns instantly, and our eyes meet. Shock and surprise dominate his face as my eyes widen in horror. "Madison!", he exclaims, his voice filled with a mix of disbelief and amusement. I can’t help but feel the flush that spreads across my face. The last thing I wanted was to be seen this way, in such an embarrassing situation. I lift my head, ready to apologize, but the words seem stuck in my throat. He steps closer, and I feel the tension in the air. He is completely naked, and the heat radiating from him is almost palpable. "If you wanted a shower with me so badly, you should have told me.", he says with a smirk, and I glare at him irritably. "I fell." "You fell into the bathroom while I was showering..." "Stop it..." "Stop what?" "Teasing me like this!" He smiles, his wet body glistening, and I blink as I feel his hands find my waist, lifting me effortlessly. "Be careful, you’re carrying my child here...", he says, touching my belly, and I sigh. I fall silent, but my traitorous eyes roam over his wet body, and... Oh my God. I bite my lips, feeling my face get hotter as I fixate on his manhood. He has a beautiful body. "Do you like it?", he asks, pushing me against the bathroom wall. I should pull away, but I can’t. Water droplets slide down every part of his skin, and I fixate on his golden pupils. "I...", I try to continue, but I fail. "Are you scared?" "Why would I be scared?" "Being trapped inside a bathroom with a werewolf, maybe I could devour you..." I widen my eyes as I feel his hands tightening around my waist. "I’d better go back to the bedroom..." "Don’t move, Madison..." I do just that, standing still as I feel him closer to me. I feel my heart racing in my chest and a warm sensation overwhelming me, and I wonder if it’s the pregnancy hormones. He raises one of his hands, touching my face and sliding down to my lips. I blink, looking at his mouth. I don’t know why, but I felt a strong urge to kiss him at that moment. He moves closer to me, and I feel his hands gripping my body, pulling me closer against him. Dario seems to be fighting against himself, just like I am. Seconds later, he kisses me, and I don’t pull away. I am kissing a werewolf. I am kissing the father of my baby. His lips are warm, and the kiss is different from anything I’ve ever experienced; he kisses me with intensity, and I feel his teeth nibbling at my lips. My hands grip his shoulders tightly. “You are under my protection now, and nothing will come close to you and the baby, even if I have to go to hell to make that happen.”, he whispers against my mouth. I feel that this war is not over yet. The vampires will still try to hurt us; I can feel it.
