“Enough time to finish the book,” Priya said. “And enough time for them to dig.”

They were building a case that I was unstable. That I made it all up.
I wasn’t scared.

Caleb got the subpoena on a Tuesday.
“You are required to appear and testify...”
He stared at it for a long time.
“I knew this was coming,” he said.
“Are you okay to do it?” I asked.
“No,” he said. “But I’m doing it anyway.”
