Amber
I couldn’t believe it. I swear Jamar looked at me and called me his mate. His mouth didn’t move, but I literally felt the words come from him. “So that’s who you want to go on a date with huh?” My mom whispered to me. “Ma!” I couldn’t believe her. “How did you know?” I asked. “Maybe because he’s completely ignoring your dad and hasn’t taken his eyes off of you? I don’t know.” My mom steadily asked me where I got my sarcastic attitude and I really didn’t understand when it was clearly from her. I laughed to myself and shook my head. My mom motioned for JD to come over to us while my dad began his welcome speech. “It’s Jamar right?” My mom asked sweetly and I knew what was coming next. Poor Jamar. “Yes ma’am it is.” he replied sweetly. “I’m going to give you 5 minutes to talk with my daughter. After that your Alpha and I will need your undivided attention and participation during dinner. Are we clear?”
PLOT TWIST! Amari shouted from the back of my mind as she laughed. It’s her playing matchmaker for me. My mom’s interjection didn’t embarrass me at all. I really did like JD and I wanted us to be mates. “5 minutes Imani.” My mom never called me by my middle name. She was trying to embarrass me super hard now. “Thank you mami. Te quiero.” I grinned as I told her that I loved her. She switched places with JD and began to talk with his mom. Great. I turned to JD and nodded my head to secretly tell him to move back a little further so we wouldn’t be seen by anyone close to us. I began to apologize. “I’m really sorry we had to cancel our apology date. I didn’t know my dad was gonna call a meeting.” I explained to Jamar. A shy smile began to take place of the scowl that had been covering his face since he got here. I felt him grabbing my hand and I almost lost it. Not in a s****l way, but physically for sure. Every hair on the back of my neck stood up. I had chill bumps on my arms. I was trying to draw in a breath, but it felt like time stood still right then. He brought my hand to his lips and kissed it.
“I wanted everything to be perfect for you my angel, but being here with you right now is all I could ever ask for.” For some reason my eyes had begun to fill with tears. Amari, what does it mean to have a mate? I thought to my spirit wolf. Everything in me was crying out for this man. But I was afraid. I had to focus on school and we weren’t even 18 yet. I wanted what my parents had, but I wouldn’t rush to get it. I wanted my college degree so bad. College wasn’t a big deal, but it mattered to me. It was a personal goal that I had set for myself and I would achieve it. “Amber? Are you okay?” JD pulled me into his arms for a hug and I couldn’t help but wrap my arms around him too. This felt right. “I just wanted to reassure you, I’m here. I want to see where this goes.” JD murmured into my hair. I don’t want to let go. I opened my eyes to reply, but saw Aliana staring dead at me. “s**t! I forgot she was here.” I pulled away from Jamar. “Who?” He asked confused.
“Your ex girlfriend.” Aliana looked like she was about to cry. She began to walk towards us and my heart started thumping. Surely she wouldn’t be stupid enough to start a verbal altercation in front of all our parents. “Excuse me Luna Jelena? Can you please show me where the guest bathroom is?” She spoke to my mom in a shaky voice. “I have to show everyone where to sit, but I will have my daughter show you if that’s okay?” NO I thought to myself, but I knew I didn’t have a choice. “Jamar let me show you and your family where you’re sitting! My mom held out her elbow and Jamar politely took it leaving Aliana and I alone. “So do you really need to go to the bathroom?” I asked. I wasn’t going for any more bs with this girl. “I just need to get out of here okay?” She looked at me again and began to actually cry. “What do you have that I don’t?” Wait what? “Ali you need to get a grip.”
She sniffled. “What?” I handed her some tissue from a box and repeated myself. “I said you need to get a grip. Not only did you cheat on JD twice, but you also got lucky enough to have a mate still claim you afterwards. Wake up and smell the coffee honey.”I said. I wasn’t trying to be a b***h, but this girl needed to get over herself. “You don’t understand, I really did love him. I wanted to bind my wolf for acting the way she did. Not only that but her lack of respect for Jamar and for you.” This was a revelation. “What do you mean?” I asked her. “My wolf took control the night Terrance and I found out we were mates. I told her I wanted and loved Jamar, but she didn’t care. That isn’t even the worst part though. “What could be worse than that?” I asked without thinking. “Oh I don’t know. It could possibly be the fact that I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant.” Flag on the damn play! WTH?
“Okay Ali I know we don’t like each other and all, but seriously? You didn’t think to use protection?” I asked. “It all happened so fast and I lost control of the situation. But we’re not talking about me right now. Seeing you and Jamar together hurts. I don’t know if I can make it through dinner seeing you be affectionate.” She said sadly and truthfully. “We’re not together and I can’t promise that that won’t change, but I would like for you to stay. I’m not the type of person to do things to get back at someone else. But to be fair, you were eavesdropping. I could feel your wolf straining to hear our conversation and you didn’t try to hide the fact that you were watching us.” I didn’t want to start a fight, but I was going to be honest. “Girls? Are you two ready? We’re waiting to be served.”
My mom had come back into the foyer. “Si mami, we’re ready.” I replied. All 3 of us walked into the dining room where everyone was seated. My dad was at the head of the table while Jamar and his parents sat on one side with Sayed’s family. My mom was seated next to my dad while Aliana and I sat next to each other and then her parents took the rear seats. “Tonight is a celebration. Jairo has returned to our pack. We will begin dinner with a toast.” We all held up our water glasses to toast. “To family, love, and prosperity.” Everyone clinked their glasses. Several housekeepers began to roll out plates and salads for starters. “Alpha I mean no disrespect —“ Aliana’s dad began. “Then don’t disrespect.” Sayed and Jamar’s dad said together in unison. “I just would like to know why my family and I have been summoned.” He replied nervously.
“If you would like to talk about business while we partake in our dinner so be it Jared. When Jairo was involved his accident, he lost his memories. He asked me to take over this pack until he felt he could lead again or completely leave. The moon Goddess Alafia was gracious enough to restore his memories and our pack is whole once again. We have been talking and he will take the title of Alpha. I will be his Beta and Emir will be our Gamma. Jared I know you were fired today and that’s because I own the airline you work for. Your services will be now be at the disposal of the pack. I will make sure that you’re compensated accordingly on the basis that you make more time for your wife and daughter.” My dad finished. “Tonight we have prepared a dinner of medium rare lamb chops and steak medallions along with scalloped seasoned potatoes and asparagus. Thank you. Please enjoy.” The chefs took a bow and left the room.
