TO SAY THAT DANI and I were busy throughout the rest of spring and well into late summer would be an understatement. We did our share of diaper changing and infant feeding when Lucia had to deal with all three kids at once during the night, and we had a sitter come in two days a week so that she could have a couple of days off. This gave her an opportunity to explore—and familiarize herself with—the town and the university campus. I insisted that Sal accompany her on her first few trips into town, until he was able to report that she would be all right on her own.
Our house on the hill, as we referred to it, was completed at the end of June, and we busied ourselves selecting its furnishings. We actually occupied the house during the first week of July
