When Rudolf offered him help during the dismount, Baptist accepted it, despite being more than knowledgeable in regard to basic equine etiquette. He was fifteen, now, and if he didn’t know how to mount and dismount a workhorse like this, he would’ve been a laughingstock back in Burke. But it was a kind gesture, and anyway, it seemed to be a second nature offer for the captain rather than an action performed specifically for the slave.
