I felt my breath hitch. My heart stumbled over itself, beating faster than it should.

My fingers curled into my palms, nails digging into my skin.

I stared at him, searching his face for a hint of mockery, for any sign that he was toying with me, but all I saw was quiet amusement mixed with something else I couldn’t name.
I swallowed. “You’re lying.”
His brows shot up. “Why would I lie about that?” he said getting up from the couch. But didn't make a move.
