The Council’s guards marched like clockwork. Selene could hear their boots echoing through the stone corridors, a rhythm of discipline and threat. Every few breaths, their torches flared against the iron bars of her cell before fading again into shadow. She had counted the rotations. Four guards per shift, passing every twelve minutes. Too precise. Too practiced. She had already run escape routes in her head mapped the turns from memory, recalled every hall she had been dragged through after her sentencing.
