*Chapter 11: Desperate Measures*
Amir couldn't shake off the feeling of desperation that had been building up inside him since Aisha's departure from the palace. He had to see her, to make sure she was safe. Under the cover of night, Amir snuck out of the palace, making his way to Aisha's family's humble home.
As he approached the house, he noticed the windows were shuttered, and the door was locked. Amir knocked softly, hoping Aisha's mother would answer. The door creaked open, and Aisha's mother peered out, her eyes filled with worry.
"Amir, what are you doing here?" she whispered urgently. "It's not safe for you to be seen."
Amir's eyes scanned the street, ensuring they were alone. "I've come to see Aisha, ma'am. I need to know she's okay."
Aisha's mother nodded, stepping aside to let Amir in. Aisha sat in the dimly lit room, her eyes red from crying. Amir's heart ached as he saw her, and he rushed to her side.
"Aisha, my love," Amir whispered, taking her hands in his. "I'll never let you go. We'll find a way to be together."
Aisha's eyes welled up with tears. "But how, Amir? Your father won't allow it."
Amir's jaw clenched in determination. "We'll find a way. I promise."
As they sat together, they began to discuss their plans. They would escape the kingdom, seeking refuge in a neighboring land. Amir's friend, Malik, had connections in the city of Azhar, where they could start anew.
Aisha's eyes sparkled with excitement. "We'll be free, Amir. We'll live our own lives."
Amir smiled, his heart filled with hope. "We'll make it happen, Aisha. We'll be together, no matter what."
As they finalized their plans, Amir knew they had to act quickly. The Sultan's guards could discover their intentions at any moment. They decided to leave in three nights' time, under the cover of darkness.
Aisha's mother listened intently, her expression a mix of concern and determination. "I'll pack what we can carry. We'll leave together, as a family."
The night of their escape arrived, filled with anticipation and fear. Amir and Aisha slipped out of the house, into the shadows. Malik waited with horses, their saddlebags packed with supplies.
As they mounted, Amir felt a surge of excitement mixed with trepidation. They rode swiftly, the wind whipping through their hair. The city gates loomed ahead, guarded by the Sultan's men.
Amir's heart pounded in his chest. "Stay close, Aisha. We'll make it through."
The guards eyed them suspiciously, but Amir's confident smile and Malik's reassuring presence convinced them to let the group pass. As they rode into the night, the kingdom's buildings gave way to open fields and forests.
Freedom lay ahead, but Amir knew the Sultan's reach was long. They had to keep moving.
