Christopher POV
I stopped by Lincoln High to talk with some of the pack members about the disappearances that have been occurring in Seattle. A few of our members from Seattle moved here to Portland to see if they can check out the area and see if there's been any gossip around that would help us find them. So far no luck. I was making my way to the exit of the school with my beta when all of a sudden I bump into a young girl causing her to fall back.
"Damn. I'm so sorry! You came around the corner so quick I didn't see you!"
I bent down to help the girl up and I caught a glimpse of her eyes. They were a soft violet color. Her hair was golden blonde, lips were pouty and pink. I smiled down at the beautiful girl and reached out my hand to help her up.
As she reached for my hand and stood up, I felt a shiver of electricity run through me. Something I've never felt before and that could only mean one thing. The realization hit me. "My mate." As soon as I spoke the words they felt right but the confused look on this girls face had me confused as well. She has to be one of us, right? Surely she couldn't be human.
"Excuse me?" The girl says with confusion.
"Uh Chris, we gotta go man." Beta Mason says.
I was in a trance looking into her eyes. "Yeah. Yeah okay let's go. I'm sorry if I hurt you."
"No, uh I'm fine. Thank you."she says
"Okay, I'll see you." I smiled and ran down the hall and out of the school with Mason hot on my trail. We got to the car and got in. I sat there for a beat then started the engine. We were heading out of Portland and back to Seattle to update my father on the intel or lack thereof.
"Bro, what's up? You've been quiet since Lincoln." Mason states.
"Man, did you see that girl?"
"How could I not you plowed right into her. Correct me if I'm wrong but I did hear you say she was your mate, right?"
"Ya. I just..when I touched her I got this feeling. Its something I never felt before but my mom did say that that's how it felt when she met my dad. I wonder if she felt it too."
"Chris, I don't know if you noticed but she looked kinda confused. Like she didn't know what you were talking about. Maybe she's human and she was only looking at you like all the other girls do, like some eye candy." Mason says with a grin.
I laughed and hit him on the shoulder. "Come on, your my wingman. I'm sure some of those looks are towards you too." I said and smiled.
Mason is my beta and childhood friend. We grew up knowing everything there is to know about one another. He's like a brother. Especially since his parents were killed by a wolf hunter. My father, Alpha Apollo took him in. We never fail to get into trouble together but the best part about him is he always has my back.
Mason laughs at my remark. "In all seriousness, you planning to get to know this girl? Because if she really is your mate and you've already gotten that link your going to have to bond with her before you both start getting weak especially now that your body already felt that pull."
"I just found her Mason. For some reason I feel I should ease into it. What if she isn't one of us?"
"If she isn't one of us, you have no choice but to reject the bond. Humans don't feel the pain from rejection. Besides, if she is human your father would kill you if you took a human as your mate." Mason brought up a good point. Its amazing how Mason is around humans knowing their kind killed his parents. He gets along with just about anyone.
"s**t!" I spit out.
"What? What is it?"
"I don't even know that girls name!"
"Well than, I guess we'll have to come back and find out what it is." Mason says with a smirk.
"Damn, she was beautiful." The thought of being next to her sent shivers through my body. When she looked up at me she froze me in my spot. It took everything in me not to kiss her. But, Mason was right. I have to come back and find her. I need to know her.
After the three hours of driving back to Seattle, I arrive home to meet my father with an update on our missing members. I took the elevator up to the condo and stepped off when it got to our floor. Walking up the hall I got to the door and heard voices coming from the inside of the condo. I unlocked the door and stepped in to see my father sitting on the couch with a man sitting across him. I close the door behind me and and walk towards the two men.
"Son! You're back, and so soon? I take it you have news from Portland?" asks my father.
"None that is helpful unfortunately." I say with my shoulders slumped. I hated disappointing my dad. He was ready to pass on the title of Alpha to me but I wanted to hold off. I'm not ready to lead our pack. Even though my alpha showed itself from time to time.
"It's alright, son. I expected as much. It isn't going to be easy to find our missing pack members but having some of our own volunteer to move to Portland to suss things out will be extremely helpful."
I nod and look over at the man now standing by the other couch.
"Son, I want you to meet Alpha Dimitri from the Redmond pack. He's an old friend of mine. Lived in Seattle some time ago but relocated his family to Redmond after his father passed on the Alpha title to him!" My father says with a grin on his face and a hand on the man's shoulder. "I have him here to talk about the missing members. It seems the Alpha is having the same issues with his pack."
I nod at him in respect and bow my head. "Alpha, its nice to meet you sir."
Alpha Dimitri chuckles. "You may call me Dimitri son. It's great to meet you. Your father speaks highly of you." Dimitri sticks out his hand for a handshake."He says he's ready to pass on the baton to you." He says with a smile.
"Yes, but I'm putting that on hold for a moment. I want to at least bring some of our pack members home before that can happen. Don't really feel I deserve it yet."
"Nonsense son! You deserve it. Everyone loves and respects you." My dad states.
"And what about you Dimitri? Will you be passing the baton to your son or daughter?" I ask the Alpha.
It's as if my words put him in a trance because he stood there and his eyes looked as though he checked out for a bit. My dad cleared his throat and spoke. "Dimitri, he has..had two daughters." I look over at the Alpha who finally snapped back to reality with a grim look on his face as if he was remembering something painful. Before I was able to ask what my father meant by 'had two daughters' the Alpha began to speak.
"Yes. My eldest daughter Ava, she was murdered by a man called Amarok. And my youngest daughter Kiana, she disappeared the same day her sister was murdered." Dimitri said with tears in his eyes, voice cracking. He sat down on the couch and put his face in his hands. My father and I sat. I leaned forward and began speaking to him.
"Alpha, I'm so sorry for your loss. You said your youngest disappeared? Any idea where she could've disappeared to?" I asked with sympathy in my heart for the man.
He looked up and I saw his eyes grow dark. "She was taken. By one of Amarok's men. Amarok had killed my daughter Ava, then as his men held onto me he beat my Luna, and moved onto me next. He had shot me with a dart full of wolfsbane so I wasn't able to protect her, defend myself or my daughters. Luckily, my wife was able to hide my Kiana from Amarok. But after he beat us so severely and left, my daughter came to me and I told her to run. Can you imagine? Having to tell my daughter to leave my side when she should've been safest there?" He said with agony and anger in his voice. "My Kiana was leaving when one of Amarok's men grabbed her. She fought against him. All I could do is call to her and I watched her fight him but then her body went limp in his hands. He pointed the gun at her and I tried to get up, to go to her but I was weak. Then I heard a gun shot."
I was confused. My father said only one of his daughters was killed. "You said you heard a gunshot? How do you know your daughter is still alive?"
"Because when my Luna and I awoke, Kiana's body was nowhere to be found. Why would they take her if she wasn't alive? They left Ava, why not Kiana if she was dead too?"
"Have you searched for her?"
"Of course! I sent some pack members to some of the places I knew some hunters went around. But the man I saw was nowhere to be found. I had his scent for a while, but every time I caught up it disappears. Like he's moving around and covering his tracks."
"I can help." I tell Alpha Dimitri. "Give me some info on that night. Something belonging to the hunter and I can try to track him with some of our members. Also, Alpha..if you have something of Kiana maybe I might be able to track her scent."
"Unfortunately I don't have anything of the hunter. The way I tracked him before I was able to go off the scent of the day of the attack. Its been so long I don't know the scent anymore but that of my daughter, I have plenty you can use." He says with a grin.
"Okay, next time I see you then. I give you my word, I'll help you find your daughter."
"Thank you Christopher. Its been 12 years since I seen my Kiana's face. How great it will be to have her back." The Alpha smiles at me.
"Of course Dimitri. And you can call me Chris." I say smiling back at the Alpha.
