Chapter Sixteen

Kat POV

I was getting my bag together when my dad walked in. I didn't even bother to turn around. "Kat, we need to talk."

"Ha, now you want to talk? It's too late for that dad."

"Look your not leaving okay. Just stop so we can have a conversation." I sighed and turned around and sat on my bed next to my overnight bag. "This isn't easy, what I'm about to tell you. And I need to know that you'll be open-minded once I tell you."

"Tell me what dad?"

"Everything. I'm going to tell you everything about who you are, about what you are."

I look at him dumbfounded. "Did you say WHAT I am?"

"Yes. But before I get to that I need you to come down to the livingroom please." I stared after him as he left the room. I stood up and walked downstairs to the living room where he stood with a woman. They looked a lot alike. I eyed the woman standing next to my dad then looked at him.

"Kat, this is my sister Leila." The woman smiled sheepishly and waved. "Hi KitKat. You probably don't remember me. I only had the pleasure of meeting you once years ago." I shook my head no.

"I asked her to come. She's the one I was going out to meet."

"To talk about me?"

"Yes. Kat, the thing is..your adopted."

"What?!"

"I got you when you were 6 years old."

"No. That can't be right. If this is true why don't I have memories from before?!"

"You do, just one. Do you remember telling me about a reocurring nightmare you've been having? It isn't a nightmare but a memory."

"No, no! Everyone in my nightmare was being killed! Are you telling me that was real?? That it really happened?! I was there?!"

My dad hung his head. "Yes. You witnessed your older sister being murdered. And your parents.."

"No! How do you know all of this?!"

"Because I was there too." He said squeezing his eyes shut. I gasped! This was so much information at once I fainted. It's like I was pulled into my nightmare. It was always the same and every time I have it, the man always appears with a shadow around his face. But this time, the man that emerged from the shadows is my father. I wake up! And I realized I'm on the floor. Suddenly I feel someone beside me and I see him.

"You!! It was you!" I sobbed uncontrollably.

"Kat, please let me-" I move away from him and his attempt at soothing me and arm myself with the fireplace poker. With trembling hands and tears streaming down my face I yell at him. "DON'T COME NEAR ME! YOU STAY AWAY!"

"Kat listen to your father. You have to know the full story of what happened. It isn't what it seems." Says Leila who's trying to calm me down.

"I don't even know you!" I spat at the woman. "You just stay away from me!" I feel like my heart is going to explode in my chest. I see the man I've always known to be my father move towards me and I scream. "NO!" And I swung the poker and hit a vase shattering it into a million pieces. It startled him and his sister which made them jump back. "I SAID DO NOT MOVE! NEXT TIME I WON'T MISS I PROMISE YOU!!"

"Okay okay, I'm backing up. Tell me what I can do to calm you down." I couldn't think my body was trembling and next thing I knew the front door was kicked in.
