Christopher POV
We got back to Seattle fairly quick. I was in a rush to get back to Kat. I was going to drop Mason off with Gia but he insisted on tagging along. I didn't mind so we headed straight for her house. As we pulled up, we heard yelling from the house. We got off and heard a crash then more screaming which made me run for the door. I didn't hesitate as I kicked it open.
My eyes went dark as I became furious at what I was seeing. My mate was in the corner near the fireplace, poker in hand and sobbing. I look over at her father and the woman standing to the side ready to dodge if she swung at them. "Kat?!" I yelled out to her.
"Chris!" She sobbed. I rushed over to her and hugged her not caring she was armed and ready to use. She lowered the poker but held onto it with dear life. I glared and snarled at the man I knew not to be her father. "What did you do to her?!" She was trembling all over.
"This is between me and my daughter!" He yelled at me stepping forward which caused Mason to react. He stepped in from of him and was ready to attack if I gave the word. The woman grabbed Kat's father by the arm and pulled him back.
"Please don't let him come near me! She sobbed. Mason looked over at us and pain shown in his eyes for her. "We won't let him near you Kat." Mason says reassuringly.
"Come on. Let's get out of here." I say to my mate. Leading her to the door with Mason watching our back.
"You can't take her! You don't understand! He'll come for her!!"
"If you follow us, I will kill you!" Mason spat at John. He went pale and stayed back. As soon as I loaded Kat into the back seat of the car with me, Mason got into the drivers seat and drove away. As Mason drove, I had Kat on my lap in the back seat. I was hugging her body close to me. She was letting out little hiccupped cries. Her face nestled into the crease of my neck. "It's okay baby, everything is going to be okay." I cooed. I felt her body slump in my arms. I looked down at her and she had dozed off in my arms from emotional exhaustion.
We arrived and I carried my mate up to the suite with Mason following behind. As we entered, I took Kat straight to the bed so she could rest. I walked back into the living area where Mason stood.
"f**k, I hate seeing girls cry bro. I wanted to rip his f*****g head off!" Mason said with so much malice.
"Same, she looked so defenseless like an animal being cornered."
"What do you think happened?"
I sighed, "I think he told her he wasn't her father. Maybe something more, I'm just not sure what." Mason's eyes wandered behind me. I turn around and see Kat standing there looking at me. I was scared what she heard and how she'd react. "You knew?" She asked in a barely audible voice.
I rubbed my hands through my hair and sighed before I spoke. "Ya, I knew Kat. He told me earlier when I dropped you off."
"You two were arguing." She said more in a questioning tone.
"I told him he needed to tell you or I would come back and do it myself." She moved into the livingroom and sat down slowly onto the small couch. Her face was all puffy from crying but she still looked beautiful, and her eyes turned a dark violet when she cries.
"Why? I don't understand why he would tell you though. It doesn't make any sense. None of this does." She said sniffling like she was going to start crying again. I kneeled down in front of her and Mason moved to a seat nearby.
"Kat..can I ask you what happened? Why were you cornered when I saw you? Was he trying to hurt you?" Her lip quivered but shook her head no.
Mason leaned forward and spoke to Kat in a low voice. "You know your safe with us right? We aren't going to let him or anyone hurt you as long as we are around." She was looking into his eyes and a small smile tugged at her lips. "Thank you." And he nods at her.
She took a deep breath and started to speak. "He said I was adopted. That he took me in when I was 6 years old." She chuckled a little and said, "You know I have this reoccurring nightmare that comes every year, close to my birthday. Turns out it isn't just a nightmare. Its a memory. I guess whoever I once was wanted me to remember." Tears started running and she swiped them away angrily. "He was the no faced man. Every time, the man that grabbed me, his face had a shadow covering who he was. It was my dad!" She said pained.
I sit there quietly watching her but she's just staring at her hands. "Do you love him?"
Her eyes shot up to mine. "I don't even know who he is! I mean he's the only family I had! And it turns out it was a lie!"
"So what do you want? Do you want to know about your past? Because Mason and I, we can help you."
"I don't know if it's what I want. But I know it's what I need. Does that make sense?"
Mason and I nod at her. I look over at him and he knows what to do. He gets up and walks into the room. When he returns he has the file in his hand. He takes his seat next to us. He hands me the file and I sit next to her. I grab a picture of the man who raised her and placed it on the coffee table.
"John Lawson, 48 years old, originally from Seattle. A wife and daughter." I takes out a death certificate for his daughter. "Katherine Lawson, died at birth while mother was having a home birth." I take out a picture of John and his wife. Place it next to another death certificate. "Lily Marie Lawson. Died December 14th from an attack that left husband John unconscious." I stayed quiet so she can take the bit of information in. "Are you okay?" She was staring at the picture of John's wife.
"This woman was suppose to be my mother. He was always so curt with me, never wanting to talk about her. Only telling me my mother died giving birth to me." She closed her eyes as a single tear ran down her cheek.
"Do you want me to continue?" I asked placing a hand on hers. She looked at me and nodded.
"Okay. From what we gathered he and someone named Erikson found the one who killed his wife and killed him. Kat, what did your father tell you about your family?"
“Nothing." She sighed. "I never really gave him a chance." I looked up at Mason. I wanted him to leave us alone so I could talk to her. He stood and excuse himself from the suite. I sighed and put the folder onto the table. I took her hands in mine. "Do you remember this morning? Me calling you my mate?" She blushed and tucked her hair behind her ear then looked away embarrassed.
I turned her face to look at me. "Kat, I'm a werewolf." I watched her intently, but she just stayed looking at me. "And when I called you my mate its because I have an emotional and physical connection to you. A connection that can only happen with..another wolf. Do you understand?"
Her brows furrowed and she said “ 'I'm going to tell you everything about who you are, about what you are.' That's what my..I mean John said to me at the house."
"Yes. Your a werewolf too. The reason you feel so out of control, why you feel like your skin is tearing apart and like your heart is going to explode is because your going through the change. It happens when you near your 18th birthday. Its a sign that your entering maturity. Being my mate is proof that you are a werewolf. But we aren't tapped into each other all the way until we become bonded mates."
"So us being together, it didn't bond us?" She asked with a raised brow.
I chuckled and shook my head. "No. Physically we are attracted to each other and emotionally I feel your pain and any other emotions but being bonded mates..its more intense. We become bonded, heart, soul, and mind and it opens a link to one another where I can always find you if your in trouble." I look at her as she takes in everything I just said to her. She looks up at me and says. "How do we become bonded?" My eyes widened. It took me by surprised. "I, we have to mark one another. A bite."
"Okay." She says.
"Okay? Your not freaked out about what I just told you?"
"I mean, it's a lot to take in. But, I've always felt..different. And I could never understand why. Now, there's a reason and I know you'll help me through it..right?" I leaned in and kissed her soft lips. "Of course."
Mason walked in with Asher and Gia. A smile spread across Asher's face. "Hey! It's Rocky!!" He chuckled.
"Shut up Asher. Gia says rolling her eyes. "Are you okay, Kat? Mason told us some of what happened. You really didn't know you were a wolf?" She asked with a sympathetic look. Kat just shook her head. "Ugh I can't even imagine. I'm so sorry! Where is that good for nothing hunter anyways?!" She asked angrily.
"Hunter?" She looks at me.
"Yes, there's more in the file about it."
"And this." Mason hands me another file. I open it and look through it. "What's this?"
"Its another file. On Amarok." I look up at him and before I speak Kat gasps. I look at her and wait.
"I know that name. A man in my dreams, his name was Amarok. From what I remember, Amarok and Erikson..they're the same person." She turns pale.
