Changes

(Scarlett POV)

I blinked slightly as the sun shone in the window. The birds chirped melodically in the distance. I rolled over to see Jace still asleep with his arm wrapped tightly around my waist. I couldn’t help but smile as I kissed his cheek. He stirred slightly and cracked open his eyes. He was not someone to sleep in but the night before was very eventful and tiring, I could understand why he took the time to sleep in a couple more hours.

I smiled and gently held his cheek, “Good morning. Should we go to get breakfast and prepare for the transformation?”

He smirked as he closed them once more, then held me closer, “Five more minutes then we can.”

I rolled my eyes, then tried to wiggle away from his grip, “Fine. You can wake up when I’m done with my shower.”

He rolled over, then pulled the blanket up to his chin, “Deal!”

I chuckled softly as I kissed his cheek, “You’re such a dork, Jace.”

He smiled and rolled over again, before he could give me a kiss, his phone started buzzing. A groan escaped his lips as he sat up to grab it, “Damn. I have to go to my dad's office to get preparations going. He has an elder here to help with understanding the process and what to expect since you’re half werewolf already. We might have him there so he could help throughout the process.”

I nodded then gave a small sigh, “Ok. Hopefully it won’t be as painful as everyone says it is.”

He held me into a hug after he sat up, “I can’t promise it won’t be entirely painless. But I can promise I will be with you every step of the way.”

I smiled and gave him a quick kiss before he got up, changed out of his pajama pants then walked out to go see his father. I got out of the bed then went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I washed myself off as thoughts of the change flashed through my head. What if it’s painful or what if it kills me? No, Scarlett, don’t think like that. You’ll be fine. Everything will be over before you know it and you’ll live happily with Jace.

After I got out of the bathroom and changed I went to the kitchen and was instantly tackled to the floor by Hazel, “Scarlett! Tell me everything! Did Daddy Smooch make you a woman?!”

I flushed bright red as the others looked over along with Judy who walked over to us, “Hazel leave the girl alone. Scarlett. I’m glad you’ll be our Luna. You’ll do great and if you need anything I will always be here to help you. Now, you should relax before the change. I know Hazel is your closest friend, so I’ll let her go and help you.”

Hazel nodded as she got up before helping me back to my feet. She turned to Judy and smiled as she thanked her, then walked out of the kitchen with my arm linked in hers, “So, did anything happen? I know I probably ruined the mood. Also, you two should learn to lock a door or put a do not disturb sign on it or something. I don’t want to see anyone's ass except yours and Ash’s!”

I chuckled as we walked out to the backyard, “No, nothing happened between Jace and I. Just some kissing..”

She narrowed her eyes as she made her way to the garden, “kissing? By the looks of it he was doing a little more than kissing. You can trust me. I don’t blab about other peoples s*x lives.”

I rolled my eyes and attempted to change the subject, “So a sign or a lock will make you cautious about walking into someone's room? Not knocking?”

She waved her hand in front of her as she shook her head, “Knocking is too hard and you know I have weak knuckles! Now tell me what really happened last night!”

“Fine, He was grabbing my chest and kissing me. I felt my chest warm up and I let myself lose control. If you didn’t walk in, I wouldn’t be a virgin anymore- wait. Weak knuckles? That's probably the worst excuse you ever came up with!”

Hazel had a slightly shocked face as she looked at me, “What? You know my knuckles are weak and everyone knows knocking isn’t cool anymore!”

She thought for a second as she decided to shift the conversation, “So Jace was your first kiss, now he will be your first. That’s a lot of firsts for you. Must be big.”

I nodded and leaned back on the bench we sat down on, “Yeah. I have no idea what to do. I’m honestly kinda scared.”

“Well yeah. Everyone is scared for their first time. I know I was. Here. Why don’t we go to the stores to help you find something to make you feel more comfortable? You’ll love it! I can even give you pointers on how to make it interesting.” She spoke with a smile as she tugged my arm.

“No. Let's go shopping after the change. Just in case.” I spoke as I looked down to my hands I had folded in my lap.

She gave me a small smile as she attempted to pull me to my feet, “Ok. Why don’t we go take some photos? I know you love it and maybe it’ll help you relax.”

I nodded in response, then got up and walked to the house with a smile on my face with Hazel pulling me along. We grabbed my digital camera then made our way back outside then looked at Hazel who was smelling some flowers.

I knelt down and pointed the camera right at her as she looked confused, “What are you doing scarlett? Am I your model for the day?”

I nodded then chuckled as I looked up from the screen on the camera, “Yeah, now stop looking at me and smell those flowers!”

She gave me a small salute as she continued smelling. I got a couple pictures of that then took a few more of her sitting at the fountain then a couple goofy ones of when she had to sneeze or when she accidentally fell and scraped her knee.

(Jace POV)

I sat in my fathers office with him and the elder looking at the book he had sitting on the desk.

“So, with what I’ve been reading and have seen. We should expect a coma at least. She could go into shock from the pain. I recommend you have her in the pack hospital just in case she were to have any of those. I have also seen in some cases death of the human.” he spoke in a smooth and calm tone.

I felt my chest tighten from fear of my little Scarlett dying at my hands. I looked to my father who was looking at the book intently, “So, what would result in the death? Since she is half werewolf could it be avoided?”

The Elder shook his head as he gave a grim look, “Sadly nothing is off the table. I have seen death if the chosen mate were to mark her for too long. The process could put her into shock and kill her. It’s not the mates fault by any means. From what they have said it is very hard to release, as if their jaw locks up. So please try to not hold her for too long. It should be quick since she’s half human.”

I swallowed hard as I leaned back in my chair from processing everything that has been said, “Ok. I should have my father and Ashton there to take me off of her if it’s too long. When will we know when it’s starting to take its effects?”

“You’ll notice. It’s different between each person. But I’ve mostly seen when the human gets very hot to the touch. It means she is getting to the temperature of what a werewolf should be. It could also be glowing, a sudden surge of adrenaline or you won’t even see signs. So keep a very close eye. To remain very safe you could do it in small doses at a time. The change would take longer, but make the pain last longer than usual.”

I nodded then looked to my father who started to get to his feet, “That should be everything we need. Thank you for coming this far to give us information. It was all very useful. I was also wondering if it was possible for you to be there to make sure everything’s going smoothly.”

He shook his head and gave an apologetic look, “Unfortunately I cannot. I have to go back and do more work with a couple packs up north. If anything goes wrong, give me a call and I’ll help as much as I can from a distance.”

I nodded my head in unison with my fathers before we said our goodbyes to him. A Beta walked in to help him find his way out. I nodded to my father then walked out to find Scarlett, so we could start the transformation process.

(Scarlett POV)

Hazel and I giggled as we looked at the photos I had taken on the small screen of the camera. I glanced up and noticed Jace as he made his way over to us. I felt my heart beat slightly as a small bead of sweat ran down my face.

“Hazel, Could you go grab Ash and have him meet us in the hospital?” He spoke to her with a rather nervous smile.

She nodded, then got up and gave me a small wink, “I’ll be there with you too Scarlett. You’ll be fine. I promise.” With that, she walked off towards the house.

“You ready Shutterbug? I know it’ll be scary but nothing will happen to you. I promise I’ll do my best to make sure it’s as comfortable as possible.”

I smiled, then stood and held his hand before I gave his cheek a quick kiss, “I’ll hold you up to that. Did the elder say anything about the change?”

He shook his head, “Nothing that wasn’t already in the book. He did recommend a couple different ways we could try. But I’d like to make it quick so we’ll go with the initial plan.”

“Ok, Let's go then. We shouldn’t leave them waiting.” I held his hand tighter, then nervously walked towards the pack hospital.

Once we made it to the hospital. We got escorted to a room where Ash, Hazel, and Mr. Stone were waiting. Once we made our way in they looked at us. Their eyes only made my face glow with embarrassment and anticipation.

Mr. Stone looked at me and gave a small smile which seemed to be rare, “You ready Scarlett? You’ll probably feel a little fatigued when you wake up, but it’ll be normal. You’ll stay here until you have enough strength to walk around.”

I nodded, then walked over to the bed, “Thank you Mr. Stone. I’m glad you’re not opposed to turning me into a werewolf.”

He chuckled and gently set his hand onto my head, “Call me Michael. No formalities since you’re now family.”

I nodded and attempted to relax in the bed as a nurse walked in and checked my vitals, then hooked me onto various machines along with an IV. I took a deep breath and looked at Jace who seemed nervous as he walked over to the left side of the hospital bed.

He leaned down and whispered into my ear, “I love you Scarlett, now just relax.”

I smiled and looked at him, “I love you too Jace.”

I relaxed in the bed as I took a deep breath. Jace leaned closer to my neck and gently moved my hair out of the way as he looked at a small part of my neck. I felt his warm breath on me as I took another breath. He took a deep breath as well , then took a rather hard bite. I felt a sharp pain along with heat running down my neck and through my body. I felt like I had to gasp for breath, but it was as if there was a heavy weight on my chest. I felt myself get warmer as I suddenly sunk into darkness. Last I could see was Ash and Mr. Stone walk over to Jace. What could they be doing?

I stood in darkness as I looked around. I felt a wave of panic run over me, “Jace?! Hazel?! Oh goddess! Am I dead?!”

I attempted running but couldn’t move. I could only sit and hug my knees as I felt some tears dare to fall. Oh gosh. What’s going to happen to Jace? I can’t have a family, or travel the world. I can’t even see anyone from my life. Not Jonas, Not even my mother.

“Relax Scarlett. You’re not dead. You’re in a protective coma as the change takes place.” A soft and soothing voice spoke.

I raised my head from my knees and looked around as I wiped away the tears that sat on my face, “What? Who said that?”

As I continued to scan my surroundings I saw a gorgeous gray wolf walk out from the darkness towards me, “I did Scarlett. I’m your wolf, Tazia.”

I looked in slight shock as I reached my hand out to her. She moved closer and let me pet her soft and gorgeous fur, “Wow, So you’re my wolf?”

She nodded and laid down next to me as she let me pet her, “Yes. I am your wolf. It’s a pleasure to meet you Scarlett.”

“Pleasure to meet you too Tazia. So, does that mean the change was a success? Why am I in a coma?” I asked curiously as I kept petting her.

“Yes it was complete, but as I said you are in a coma. It’s to protect you throughout the change. You should be waking up soon though.”

I nodded then took a deep breath as I looked around, “So, With you being my wolf, Does that mean I’ll be able to feel the mate pull?”

“Well, you already felt the mate pull, but you’ll feel the full extent of itl, along with the heat, which will be soon.” she spoke in her smooth voice which calmed me as she lifted her head.

“The heat? What's that?” I tilted my head in confusion as I stood with her.

“You’ll know in time, but promise me you won’t mark him until you’re fully healed. I don’t want you to get hurt and slip into another coma.” her voice was stern but still calming oddly.

I nodded then stretched as I took a deep breath, “Ok, Will I also be able to speak with you when I’m awake.”

“Yes, You will. I’ll be able to speak with you. I’ll be in your thoughts.”

I nodded then noticed she looked off in the distance and let out a soft purr, “Mate.”

I tilted my head and looked off to where she was looking,”Mate? You mean Jace? Is this the mate pull?”

Without an answer Tazia let out a loud howl. I was frightened with the howl and squeezed my eyes shut. Once the howling stopped I opened my eyes. I looked around the room to see Jace sitting next to the bed staring at me. I took a deep breath and went to speak. But my mouth was dry. As if he already knew, Jace walked over and grabbed the bottle of water that sat on the table next to the bed.

“Here, Drink. How do you feel, Shutterbug?” he looked worried as he placed his hand on my forehead.

I smiled and took a big drink of the water then spoke, “I feel fine. How long was I out? How do you feel, Jace?”

He sighed and held my hand as he looked at me. He looked tired, “You’ve been out for three days. I honestly thought I lost you. But you had a pulse so I stayed here with you so when you woke up I’d be right here.”

I smiled and held his hand in return, “Well I didn’t die. Plus, you look like you need some rest. Along with a shower.” I chuckled as I pinched my nose in a joking manner.

He chuckled softly and kissed me softly before the door opened as Hazel walked in with Ashton. Her face brightened with a smile as she ran over and gave me a hug, “Scarlett you’re awake! How do you feel? Did you meet your wolf? Is she pretty? What's her name?”

I smiled as I hugged her back then sat up in the bed. I quickly held my head as Jace helped me as he raised the bed so I could sit up, “I met my wolf. Her name is Tazia. She seemed very chill until she started howling after saying ‘Mate’.”

Jace looked shocked, “You felt it too? Hunter has been howling all day and saying we found our mate. Just like when I first met you. Maybe he feels Tazia.”

I held his hand as Hazel let out a squeal, “That’s such a pretty name! Why aren’t you all over each other? I didn’t let Ash leave our room for three days. Weird.”

Ashton placed a hand on her shoulder and gestured for her to slow down. She nodded then took a deep breath as she gave me a small smile, “Sorry. I shouldn’t bombard you with questions so soon.”

I nodded as Jace spoke up, “It could be that we know she’s hurt and weak so we are staying safe until she’s ready to move around and get used to being a werewolf.”

We all nodded in unison as I smiled at Jace. I knew I was happy with my decision as Tazia purred in content in my mind. I could tell Jace felt the same way.
