(Scarlett POV)
I woke up the next morning and felt around the bed for Jace, but noticed he was gone. I quickly sat up and scanned the room for him, then noticed a letter on the nightstand.
Hey Shutterbug. I’m sorry I couldn’t be with you when you woke up. I was called to my office for a couple things. I promise, when I find time to be with you I’ll take it. Enjoy your day!
Love, Jace.
I smiled at the note, then gave a soft sigh as I held the blanket. It still smelled like him and I honestly loved it. After a few minutes, I got out of the bed, took a quick shower, then got changed. I decided to keep my glasses on and take a break from the contacts.
I walked out of Jace’s room and heard an all too familiar squeal, “Scarlett! How was the night with your man?! Did he love the pajamas? Did anything happen last night?! I didn’t hear anything when I sat outside of the door! Since when did you have glasses? Is Jace happy when you told him you’ll be his Luna?!”
I was bombarded with questions, then chuckled as I walked down the hall with Hazel in tow, “The night was great. Jace seemed to like the pajamas. We watched a couple movies while waiting for pizza, then went to bed. I’ve always had glasses, but decided to not wear my contacts like I normally do. Jace doesn’t know yet… And did you say you sat outside the door?!”
Once I asked my question, Hazel waved her hand, “Don’t mind that! Why didn’t you tell Jace? Were you too busy?” She wiggled her eyebrows as she nudged me.
I chuckled, then shook my head, “Nothing happened aside from of one small kiss. He fell asleep before I could tell him and I didn’t have the heart to wake him up.”
She nodded, then looked at me as she scratched her chin, “You could tell him on the camping trip, it’ll be a nice way to let him know on a nice vacation!”
I nodded in response, then walked into the kitchen. Maddison was there and appeared to speak to one of the Betas, the Betas name was Ashley, she was fairly young and had red curly hair. She appeared to be in some sort of distress. I walked over and stood between them.
“Maddison. What are you up to? Anything I can help you with?” I kept my tone kind as I spoke.
She rolled her eyes before she proceeded to glare at me, “I don’t want your help. You steal Jace from me now you’re acting like you’re noble.” Her tone was harsh and shrill.
I kept my ground as I took a deep breath, “Maddison. I didn’t steal Jace from you. The moon goddess blessed me as his mate.”
She let out a displeased grunt before she left the kitchen. I knew this could have only been the beginning of her antics.
I turned to Ashley who seemed to calm down slightly after she left, then gave me a small smile, “Thanks Scarlett. Maddison was just so mean. She was asking where Jace was and I didn’t know. He could be in his office or out running with the others.”
I nodded then smiled at her as Hazel walked over, then whispered to me, “Maddison is a b***h. If you want I can kick her ass. It won’t be too hard.”
I gave a chuckle, then looked at her, “If she was a glass of orange juice she wouldn’t stand a chance.”
We had a small laugh, then worked on preparing breakfast. Once we were done we got it out then decided to eat in the living room with the others. I sat between Ashley and Hazel and talked about various things. Hazel only wanted to talk about how I said I was Jace’s mate and decided to only focus on that. We talked a little more and had a couple laughs. After we finished, Hazel and I worked on the dishes as I started to drift off into my thoughts.
“Scarlett? You ok?” Hazel looked slightly worried as she held out a wet plate for me to dry off.
I took the plate then let out a small sigh, “Yeah. I’m just thinking about the whole werewolf thing. I’m scared of the pain I’ll go through when I do. I remember reading about it and some people have even died from it. What if it happens to me?”
“Don’t worry, you’ll have me and Jace with you to help you along the way. Just relax and make sure you’re ready when he does it.”
I nodded, then saw Ashton standing behind her. He held a finger to his lips as if to keep me silent. I looked back to Hazel, then smiled, “Yeah. I should relax and just not think too much about it. So, do you and Ashton have anything planned?”
She shrugged as she scrubbed some more dishes, “Not really, we will have to pack some things for the trip, then maybe go to sleep after some other things which I know you hate when I talk about it.”
She gave me a wink, then yelped as Ashton picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, “Sorry Scarlett, I need Hazel for a second! We won’t be too long.”
I chuckled, then looked at him, “Have fun. Just make sure she can still hang out with me by the pool later.”
He nodded and gave me salute as Hazel laughed as she still hung on his shoulder, she even hit his back a couple times. I finished the dishes as I had started to get lost in my own thoughts. I thought about the transition of myself into a werewolf, the wolf I’d be given, along with the responsibility of the position of Jace’s mate and the pack’s Luna. It was a lot to think about. I finished the dishes and noticed my phone went off. Jace sent a text that said he was busy and couldn’t leave his office due to his meetings. I didn’t mind, then went to my room to read up a little more about the moon goddess.
I heard a knock on the door, then looked at it, “It’s open.”
Hazel walked in and smiled at me. She had on a tank top with some shorts and a pair of sunglasses that sat on the top of her head, “Hey girl! Are you ready to go sit at the pool?”
I smiled and nodded as I started to stand, “Yeah, I think I have a swimsuit. Gimme a second.”
I opened the drawer to my dresser and noticed a couple bikinis. I moved them and grabbed my one piece, then smiled at Hazel who merely scrunched her nose and shook her head.
“Come on Letty! You have a rockin’ bod! You should show it off and get some skin while you’re at it!” she proceeded to grab the white bikini that sat in one of the drawers.
“Fine, but I wear my skirt. Also, how was your time with Ashton?” I raised an eyebrow at her as I grabbed the bikini, then went to the bathroom to change.
Hazel chuckled as she waited in my room, “Oh, he and I had some quality time, if you catch my drift.”
I walked out the bathroom with a chuckle, then grabbed the white skirt that tied on the side, “I caught it and I regret asking to be honest. Let's go to the pool.”
Hazel whistled as she gave me a thumbs up before she grabbed the sunglasses that sat on the top of my dresser. I grabbed them from her hand, then took a towel before we walked out. We chatted about a couple other things before we made our way out to the pool. We walked over to some loungers, then noticed Ashton in swim trunks with Jace right behind him.
“Hey girls. Are you two going to swim or sit under the sun?” Ash chuckled as he wrapped his arm around Hazel's waist.”
Hazel chuckled and kissed him before she got onto the lounger under the sun, I got onto the one under an umbrella in the shade, “I’ll be sitting here, Hazel can swim with you guys.”
Jace walked over, then held his hand out to me, “Come on Shutterbug, You scared of getting your hair wet?”
I narrowed my eyes as I noticed Hazel and Ashton looking at us. Hazel wore a huge smile as Ashton nodded his head at me as if it were a “go” signal to join them.
I gave a small sigh and took off my sunglasses, then took Jace’s hand, “Fine. I’ll swim with you guys, but know that I’m not that great at swimming.”
Jace smiled as he grabbed me, then ran off towards the water, I squealed as I was thrown in. I swam up to the top and chuckled as the others jumped in. We enjoyed ourselves as we played some games in the water and chatted about the camping trip. After a few hours we decided to call it a day and go to our rooms. I walked with Jace and talked for a bit. I decided to sleep in his room with him again tonight.
A few days later Jace, Ashton, Hazel and I started to pack our bags in the car. We all piled in with Jace and I in the back. We held hands the whole ride. It was a few hours as we drove through the woods. Once we got to a clearing we got out of the car and started to unpack. Jace and Ashton put up the tents as Hazel and I made sure we had everything.
“So, Scarlett. Have you told Jace yet? I’m excited to meet your wolf!” She beamed at me as she shuffled through a bag.
I shook my head and sighed, “I don’t know. I started having second thoughts and got scared. I haven’t told him yet and I don't want to until my thoughts are set.”
She nodded in agreement, then gently patted my shoulder, “You take all the time you need. I doubt Alpha Michael will rush you into it and I know Jace won’t.”
I smiled and nodded before the guys walked over. They helped us move our bags to our tents. They went off to gather some wood for a small bonfire as Hazel and I prepared some food to be cooked. The guys came back and started the fire as we roasted some sausages over it.
“So, Scarlett, have you decided on becoming a werewolf? I’m interested to see if you have decided yet.” Ashton broke the silence with the one question I had started to slightly dread.
“Not really. I have some thoughts going on and I’m unsure if I want to do it, you know? I know that if I stay human I risk getting killed in the upcoming hunt. I also know that if I become a werewolf I gain responsibilities as Luna of the packs and as Jace’s mate. I know it's not as hard as I believe but I’m scared of a few things. If that makes sense.”
Jace nodded and placed his hand on my shoulder in an attempt to calm my nerves as Ashton leaned back in his chair while he ate his burnt sausage. We shifted the talk to Jace’s duties in the office along with some other Alpha stuff. We concluded the night with smores, then went to our tents. I curled up against Jace and yawned softly.
“Hey, Scarlett? I know it’s hard to talk about, but I want you to know that you have nothing to worry about if you become Luna. I’ll gladly teach you everything and I know my father will help you if you have any questions.” His voice was soft as he started to pet my hair. It always seemed to calm me.
I could only nod before I fell asleep. The next morning, we all got out of our tents and had some breakfast. Jace and Ashton took Hazel and I to a nearby lake to fish. Hazel had some issues catching fish due to her impatience, I didn’t have any because I had gone fishing before. Jace and Ashton enjoyed themselves as they continued to attempt to catch the biggest fish they could. Ashton was the winner and Jace was the sore loser as always.
We packed up the rest of our things, then piled back into the car. I enjoyed the night in the woods and my worries had been cleared because of what Jace had said to me. I held Jace’s hand the entire way. Once we made it to the pack house Mr. Stone stood outside and opened the door for me.
“Scarlett. I need to talk to you. Jace came with us.” His tone was the same as usual, stern.
Jace nodded, then got out of the car with me in tow as we made our way inside. My worries only seemed to grow as we walked up the stairs and down the hall. What if Mr. Stone decided to just use me for the hunt, or decided to send me back to my parents so I wouldn't be with Jace. What if he chose to just turn me into a werewolf without a care about my wellbeing and the risks of my possible death?
We made it to the office and I sat down in a chair in front of the desk. Mr. Stone sat down on the chair behind the desk and sighed softly, “You need to decide on becoming a werewolf, Jace becomes Alpha in a week and you need to decide. We gave you more than enough time to give everything some thought.”
Jace and I sat in shock as I shuffled my hands in my lap, “Uh. Mr. Stone. I decided…”
I looked to Jace who held my hand and gave a reassuring smile to calm me down.
I took a deep breath, then looked at Mr. Stone, “I’ve decided to become a werewolf and accept Jace as my mate. I will also take on the duties as Luna.”
Mr. Stone gave a pleased smile and nodded, “It’s decided. We will turn you into a werewolf tomorrow. Jace will have to do it by marking you. We will have you in the pack hospital in case anything goes wrong. I doubt it will since you’re half werewolf. It probably won’t phase you too much.”
I looked at Jace who had a smile as he squeezed my hand. He seemed overjoyed with my decision. At that moment, the doubts in the back of my mind started to melt away at the sight of Jace.
