Chapter 4

Raela

POV

My alarm goes off and I throw on black jeans and a Nightmare Before Christmas Tshirt on, then my hoodie. I throw my hair up in a bun and throw on some eyeliner, grab my bag and head out the door. Of course my mom and dad are still. Was hoping they would have left already. But nope. Of course that is not my luck. 

“Raela, honey” my mom starts, “what happened yesterday? Di...”

Dad cuts her off “ Is it true Gavin walked you home?” he shouts

“Yes he did. To make sure this” I pull my arm out of my hoodie and show them the bruise “or something worse didn’t happen again. So maybe instead of being pissed, Thank him. Because he saved my a*s.” and I storm out the door. 

I walk up to Anna waiting at the corner for me.

“You are late” Anna says

“Yeah they wanted to question me about yesterday. My father yelled at me asking if Gvain walked me home. I assume Frankie told them. F**king b*tch.” I told Anna

“Dude literally f*ck Frankie. She is a b*tch for no f**king reason.” Anna said

“Yup. She just is so up Hunter’s ass. He could tell her the sky is red and she would believe him even though she can see that it isn’t. She is pathetic. I hate my life. I mean I know i could be worse but it’s still sucky”

“Well f**k her. We are done talking about her. Let’s talk about me, spending the night this weekend. And us doing something fun!” Anna says excitedly as she grabs my hand and starts swinging our arms. 

“Yeah sure. But let’s get through the rest of the week first.” I say as we walk through the schools doors. 

We walk to Anna’s locker then mine. 

“K I gotta get to homeroom. Love you.” Anna says as she hurries off.

I head to my homeroom and tell the teacher I feel sick and need to go to the restroom. He lets me. And I manage to get in and out before Miles goes in. I spend the whole 15 minute period in the girls’ room. I head to English and I barely listen. He reminds us our essays are due Monday. I just have to edit mine but other than the editing, I am done with it. When English is over I head back to my locker and grab my stuff and head towards the back door of the school. I send Anna a text to let her know I’m leaving. I just really don’t want to be here today. So I leave and head home. I walk my usual way and as I am walking home I see Gavin walking in my direction, headed to the garage I assume. As soon as I notice him I put my head down and hope he doesn’t notice me. He does. 

“Hey Raela” he says with a smile.

I look up at him and smile in response “Hi, Gavin”

“Shouldn’t you be in school?” he asks 

“Yeah but I really couldn’t focus on anything. Too many thoughts in my head to focus and I did not feel like being there at all. So I left.” I explain, “school is kind of one of the last places I want to be… Well along with being at home. But home is better than school. At least until my family gets home. So home is where I am going to be I suppose. And I am so sorry I am just rambling” I give him a nervous smile

“It's okay” Gavin chuckles “If you don’t feel like being home, do you maybe want to go grab a coffee?”

“Yeah, but don’t you have to go to the garage?”

“I have to go open the doors. But as soon as Jay gets in I can leave. And you can come with me to open the doors and wait. He should be there soon.” Gavin explains.

“Uh yeah, sure let’s go” 

I can’t believe this is happening. I am actually going to hang out with Gavin. I am freaking out internally!

We head for the garage and Gavin heads in and opens the doors turning on the lights. We head to the back office. It's nice; not what I would have imagined a mechanics office to look like. It was bright. There was a big TV on the wall, a nice desk with a computer and two chairs in front of it, white leather couch against the wall opposite of the tv, a desk under the tv with a keurig and coffee pods along with some snacks. It was nice.

“You can sit on the couch if you want, the remote for the TV is sitting on the desk.” Gavin says as he turns and walks out of the office doing things around the shop.

I grab the remote and sit down and scroll right to Supernatural and choose that to watch. WIthin 10 minutes Gavin is back. 

“Ah Supernatural. Best choice” Gavin says standing in the doorway. 

“Yeah, it's one of my favorite shows. You can never go wrong choosing it” I say as Gavin comes and sits next to me on the couch. 

We fall into an awkward but comfortable silence watching the episode that was on. I know I should say something but I don’t know what to say. So I just come up with anything. 

“So, is this your office? I ask thinking to myself how stupid I must sound

“Not exactly but it might as well be. The owner is never here and I basically run the place so, I come in here and do all of the paperwork and everything”

“Oh, well that's cool. Its definitely not what I would have pictured for being an office in a car fixy place. But I like it, its nice.” I say with a small smile playing with the edges of the sleeves of my hoodie.

Gavin looks at me and laughs “What did you think it would look like? Dark and dirty?

I feel my cheeks turn pink

“Yeah actually kinda. I thought its have like grease everywhere” I say

I feel nervous with him, but comfortable at the same time. 

“So you think mechanics are dirty?” 

“Well, dirty can be a good thing” I say before I actually think about it.

“Oh really?” He asked with raised eyebrows

Oh God kill me now

“I can’t believe I just said that.”

Just then we hear Jay yell for Gavin asking where he is. Gavin hollers back saying he is in the office. Jay walks in and Gavin tells him he is leaving and will be back later this afternoon. I wasn’t really listening, more interested in Supernatural. Jay leaves the office and Gavin sits back down next to me. But a little closer than last time. 

“We can go after this episode ends if you want. Or we can just stay in the office and binge watch Supernatural.” Gavin says

“There’s only like 5 minutes left. Plus, I know how it ends.” I smile “Let’s go” I stand up

“Okay” He laughs, “Lets go"
