Chapter 2

Raela POV

Walking home with my headphones in, listening to Team by Lorde. Anna stayed late at school for her detention. So I was walking home alone. I walk past the garage that Gavin works at on the way home every day. I had just rounded the corner to walk by the garage as I felt a hard grab on my arm. I looked up and it was Miles and his friends. I tried to pull away but couldn’t. He snatched my headphones out of my ears and asks “where do you think you’re going?

“Home” I snapped in response

“Who the f*** do you think you’re talking to b***h?”

I look back to the ground and don’t respond but I feel Miles grip on my arm tightening and I feel his friends stepping in closer calling me names and laughing with each other.

“Ouch. You’re hurting me.” I state a bit loudly

“Is everything okay out here?”

I hear his voice but I can’t see him because Miles and his group lackeys have me surrounded, but I smile to myself. I know it’s Gavin. Miles jumps and loosens his grip hearing Gavin talk.

“Yeah everything is fine. Why don’t you mind your own business?” said Miles as he let me go fully and turned to face gavin.

I stood there looking at the ground just listening and waiting for my chance to get out of there.

“When a girl is saying that she’s being hurt it is my business”

Gavin stepped closer to Miles and then Gavin’s friends came walking out to see what was going on.

“ I would suggest you leave and leave her alone” Gavin motions to me

Miles and his friends leave and I start to continue home but Gavin stops me.

“Are you actually okay?”

“Yeah. I’m used to Miles and his s**t. Don’t worry about it. Thanks for coming to my rescue today though.” I give Gavin a small smile.

“Uh I am gonna walk with you just to make sure you make it okay” Gavin rubs the back of his neck nervously

“Oh you don’t have to. I am okay really. I don’t want to cause any more trouble than I already have”

“I am walking you home. End of story. Lead the way.”

I smile a bit and take off in the direction of home. Its a bit awkward but my stomach is full of butterflies.

“So uh what’s the deal with you and that kid?” Gavin asked

“Uhm a few things, but he hates that I turned him down in front of his friends. I don’t know why he even asked me out in the first place.” I replied

“Well, you turned him down. He should get over it.”

“Eh, that's not the whole story but I don’t talk about the rest. But I do appreciate you coming out and saving me.” I laugh and punch Gavins arm playfully “My hero”

“No problem. I hate that kids brother anyway and from what I see he seems to act like his brother”

“Yeah, I wouldn’t know. I avoid his brother at all costs as well. It's just easier to avoid Hunter because he doesn’t go to school with me” I chuckle and look up to him, “we’re here. Do you want to come in, I can get you a drink? It's the least I can do.”

“No, thank you though. I should probably get back to the garage, I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe without that jackass bothering you again.”

“Well thank you. I appreciate it”

“Anytime. Raela, right?”

“Yeah or Rae.” I smile

Gavin starts walking back down the driveway and I open the door and head inside.

I have to text Anna and tell her what happened. I grab a snack and an apple juice out of the fridge. Thank god my parents aren’t home. I head up to my room and check the time. It’s only 4pm so my parents won’t be home for about 2 more hours. I turn on my tv and start playing music. I head to my bathroom and take a quick shower. When I finish my shower I plop down on my bed and grab my computer and start my essay. I’m about half way done when I hear my sister come in. I look at the time and its 5:45.

My sister and I don’t have a close relationship. We used to, but not anymore. Not for a while. She’s the pretty perfect one. I’m the black sheep. It’s whatever though. I go back to writing my essay then hear a knock on my door. Its my sister Frankie. She’s a year and a half older than me. She’s dating Miles’ brother Hunter. So I’m sure she is going to question me about what happened today.

“Come in” I holler as I close my laptop

She sticks her head in “Hey Rae, can I come in?

“Yeah sure”

Frankie comes and sits on my bed “how was your day?”

“It was fine?” I look at her questioningly.

She never asks about my day so that confirmed it, Mies told big brother Hunter and Hunter told Frankie. I wonder if Miles told Hunter that he had stood waiting for me. Or if he told them that he had a hold on my arm so hard it bruised. I doubt it.

“Well I heard Gavin got involved in Miles trying to talk to you?”

“No Miles wasn’t trying to talk to me. Miles held onto my arm so hard it bruised, while surrounding me with his friends. Gavin basically came to my rescue.” I state matter of factly.

“Well that’s not the version Miles told Hunter. And Hunter is pissed at Gavin. So stay away from Gavin and Miles.” Frankie said

I pulled my sleeve up and showed Frankie my fresh bruise ang her eyes got big for a second.

“Yeah Frankie, make sure he’s telling the truth next time before you come at me. You can get out of my room now.” I said and picked my laptop up.

Fankie stood up and walked over to my door. She stopped just before she walked out and said “yeah there’s a bruise but that doesn’t mean it came from him.” and with that she walked out of my room and s**t my door.

I heard mom come in while we were talking and I didn’t bother going downstairs to say hi. I just continued working on my essay. I just waited until mom yelled upstairs that dinner was ready. I ran downstairs and grabbed a plate but took my plate back upstairs to my room saying I had a lot of homework. Which was a lie, The only thing i was doing was my essay but I was basically done with that, I just needed to proofread and edit it. But I didn’t want to sit downstairs with my family and suffer through a dinner where my sister brags about how perfect everything is in her life and while my parents look at me like ‘why can’t you be more like Francesca’.
