CHAPTER 9 - UNCONCIOUS - KAYSON'S POV

1914 Words
After we departed from the pack house, I took her directly to the market to help her find some clothes. We couldn't keep stealing Zoe's clothing. We entered the boutique, where she admired the various fabrics and colorful ribbons. I noticed her interest in the silks, so I made a mental note to choose most of her outfits from that material. As we browsed, a stout man with a thick beard and a pinstriped suit approached us, a measuring tape draped over his shoulders. "Chris," I called out. "Alpha Kayson," He greeted me back. "Are you planning to start wearing dresses instead of suits?" I chuckled and shook my head. "Not a chance," I replied, pointing to my mate. "This is my mate, your future Luna. She needs some clothing." "Ah, I’d heard the rumors, though I never paid much attention to the gossip mongers." He remarked, sizing her up. "Congratulations! She is quite beautiful. Is that her natural hair color?" Glancing at her stunning silver locks, I responded, "I believe it is. She can't confirm it one way or the other though, as she doesn't speak our language and has lost her memories." "Oh my! Poor dear." He exclaimed. "Well, let’s take some measurements. Do you have an idea of what you’d like?" I approached my mate and offered her a reassuring smile, gently leading her towards Chris, though she eyed him with caution. "For starters, I think she should have four or five day dresses, a few nightgowns and robes, and possibly two or three evening dresses. Let's mix the fabrics, but she seems fond of silk." I suggested. "Sounds good." Chris replied as he took the measuring tape in his hands. "Luna," He said slowly as he moved a bit closer, "Please open your arms." He demonstrated, raising his arms to show her, and after a moment's hesitation, she mimicked his action. However, when he attempted to wrap the tape around her chest, she pushed against him with a low growl, before freezing on the spot, clearly startled by her reaction. "Strong little thing, isn't she?" Chris remarked, rubbing his chest, before walking over to my mate again. ''I won't hurt you, Luna.'' He said cautiously and tried to measure again, but once more, she growled and shoved him. "Here, let me do it." I offered, reaching for the tape. "Good idea," He nodded, as she rubbed his chest again. "I prefer to keep my ribs intact." He handed me the measuring tape and returned to my mate, and held out my arms, to show her how it was done. She hesitated but eventually raised her arms for the third time, allowing me to measure her alluring figure without pushing me away. I found myself inhaling deeply her delightful aroma of lavender, oranges, and the warm scent of burning candles, savoring the closeness we shared. As I measured her throat, I traced my fingers lightly along her marking spot, I felt a sense of satisfaction as she shivered and glanced up at me, her eyes reflecting a mix of feelings, that matched my own. If Chris hadn't been present, I would have certainly leaned in for another kiss, but I managed to hold back my desires. At last, we finished the measurements, and I stepped back to face Chris, who had been diligently noting everything down. He then picked up a color wheel and approached my friend to show it to her. "Can she choose a color she likes?" He asked. I turned back to her, noticing her puzzled expression as she stared at the wheel. I indicated myself and then pointed to the color Green. "Kayson. Green." I explained, and then I turned to Chris for his favorite color, which was red, so I gestured to both him and the color. "Chris, red." I said. Understanding dawned on my mate as she pointed to purple. "Her favorite's purple." I noted. "Very good, Alpha." Chris replied, taking the wheel from me. "I’ll have them ready within the week, but if she needs some dresses right away, I have a few woolen dresses in her size." "Please send a few to my suite in the pack house." I instructed. "Yes, sir," He acknowledged. "Goodbye, Chris." I waved, taking my mate's hand. "Thank you." She looked at him and said slowly, "Good... bye." I smiled, pleased at how quickly she was grasping the language. Chris returned the smile, saying, "Goodbye, Luna." We exited the shop, and I began to show her around before we enjoyed a private lunch at one of the restaurants. However, as we set off to continue our exploration, I heard someone call me. ''Alpha Kayson.'' Sh*t... I sighed and turned wearily towards Alina, who'd shouted my name. ''What is she doing back here?'' Blaze questioned. "She likely got wind of our mate." I replied, acknowledging the unspoken tension in the air. I glanced at my mate and instinctively moved closer to her, feeling the urge to shield her, even if she was unaware of the tension. "Alina," I addressed the bothersome girl, "What brings you back to our pack? Jay didn’t say anything about inviting you back or about your arrival." "Oh, it’s just a surprise visit!" She replied cheerfully, her gaze drifting over to my mate. "Is this her?" "Yes," I replied, taking my mate's hand and bestowing a kiss upon it. I could see Alina's eyes flash with anger before she forced herself to regain her composure. "This is my mate." "Does she have a name?" Alina asked. "I'm sure she does, but we don’t know it yet." I explained. "She was injured when we first met and now she struggles with some memory issues." "Oh, you poor thing," Alina feigned sympathy. "I'm Alina, your soon to be sisters-in-law." She extended her hand, but my mate only frowned and looked at me questioningly. "She doesn't understand our language." I informed Alina. "She doesn't know what a handshake is." "A bit of a charity case, isn’t she?" Alina remarked. "No memories, no language, and I hear she's not even a wolf. No wonder Alpha Jayce doesn’t want her." A growl escaped me. and Alina stepped back, as my guards stepped forward. My mate looked at me in shock and quickly withdrew her hand. Damn it, I momentarily forgot she wasn't aware that we were wolves, so I gently caressed her cheek to reassure her before facing Alina again. "She’s never had a wolf." I stated firmly, "My mate is a Lycan." Alina’s eyes grew wide as she reassessed my mate. "But her Lycan was taken from her." I added. "That’s not possible!" She protested, shaking her head. "She’s obviously a witch using some kind of magic on you. She might not even truly be your mate, it could be a scheme to disrupt the treaty between our packs. My father mentioned that the witch covens are anxious about the unification of our two largest packs." I replied calmly, "Nothing can replicate the mate bond. If you dare to accuse my mate again, not even Jay will be able to protect you from my wrath. Now, get away from me, and don’t approach my girl again." "I’m sorry if I offended you. You know I’d never want to hurt you." She said, feigning remorse as she placed her hand on my arm. Before I could shrug her off, my mate seized her wrist and pushed her back with an aggressive movement. I watched in astonishment, and even my mate appeared taken aback by the sudden movement, though Blaze was excited, wagging his tail with joy. "Mate's jealous of women touching us." He commented, stating the facts plainly. "It seems my mate doesn't want you touching me." I commented, as Alina regained her composure and shot a glare in our direction. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it." She said, fake remorse evident in her voice. I truly couldn't tolerate this girl any longer. Before she'd ensnared Jayce, she had proposed that we marry to unify our packs peacefully, a suggestion I quickly rejected since my only desire was for my mate. "I think it's best you leave." I told Alina firmly, "I don't want you causing any more distress for my mate than you already have." "If you're referring to my engagement to Alpha Jayce, I'm sorry she's upset." She replied sweetly. "I offered to call off the engagement out of respect for the mate bond, but he insisted we go through with the marriage. We love each other, and he doesn't want to let me go, but we never meant for anyone to get hurt, especially your mate, but at least she has you." "Indeed, she does." I agreed, "And she always will. I already feel an intense protectiveness towards her, and will gladly kill to protect her and keep her happy. Please keep that in mind in the future. Now, go, I won’t repeat myself again." "Yes, Alpha." She replied, bowing her head as she turned away. I observed her approach a petite brunette Omega maid who appeared timid. Alina snapped a command at her, and the girl swiftly followed her lead, chasing after her and trying to keep up with her master's footsteps. Turning my attention back to my mate, I noticed her glaring at Alina. It was evident she disapproved of the girl, though she probably couldn’t articulate the reason. I gently caressed her cheek and smiled, encouraging her to move along. "Come," I invited, and gestured for her to walk forward. After giving Alina one last look, we resumed our tour of the pack. I was showing her. Throughout the remainder of the day, we continued exploring the pack. I took her to various places I enjoyed, including the bakery, schools, an orphanage, and the local shops. At one point, I treated her to an ice-cream, which she devoured with genuine delight. It seemed she had forgotten about the ice-cream too. Nearing the end of the day, before returning for dinner, I showed her the pond in the expansive gardens near the pack house, relishing the sight of her smile as she looked at the small water fountain in the pond and the way she playfully touched the water. In a moment of fun, I splashed some water her way, and she gave a delighted squeal before she splashed back at me, which began a water fight. She gave me one last splash of water before springing up and running off before I could get her again. I cherished the sound of her laughter as I pursued her, but she slowed just before I could reach her, showing off her impressive speed, and then suddenly held her head. "Are you okay?" I asked in a panic, gently taking her arms in my hands. Her frown deepened, and she collapsed. "MATE!?" I shouted in alarm as I scooped her up into my arms, cradling her close. "GET ME A CAR NOW!" I yelled at my guards, who hurried toward the garage. I sprinted after them, dismissing the gathering gazes of the pack members surrounding us. I noticed a few extra pack members out today, but I figured they were just eager to catch a glimpse of their Luna, so I'd been ignoring them. "TJ," I linked him, "If you're not already at the hospital, get there now. My mate just passed out." "I'm here. I'll prepare the room for your arrival." He replied promptly.
