The Return and Revelation

Jane's POV I walked through the gates of the Gregory Pack lands six months after my rejection, and the first wolf who saw me stumbled backward in shock. I did not blame him for his reaction, because I barely resembled the cowering omega who had fled this place half a year ago. My silver eyes glowed with Lycan power, my body moved with predatory grace that made normal wolves instinctively submit, and the aura of dominance surrounding me forced every pack member I passed to lower their heads and bare their throats. I wore simple clothes but they could not hide what I had become, and whispers followed me like shadows as I made my way toward the pack house. Robert emerged onto the front steps before I reached the door, and his face cycled through shock, relief, joy, and fear in the span of three seconds. He looked older than I remembered, with new lines around his eyes and gray threading through his dark hair, and for a moment I almost felt sorry for him. "Jane, thank the Goddess you are alive," Robert said, and he moved like he might try to hug me. I stopped him with a look that could have frozen fire, and I saw him flinch backward from the cold fury in my eyes. The pack members gathering around us fell silent, and I could feel their fear mixing with curiosity as they waited to see what would happen next. "You lied to me for eighteen years," I said clearly, making sure my voice carried to every listening ear. "You are not my father, you hid my true identity, you suppressed my Lycan nature with magic, and you let me be treated like worthless garbage to keep your secrets safe." Robert's face crumbled, and I watched tears fill his eyes as the truth I spoke landed like physical blows. He opened his mouth to respond, but I raised my hand and he fell silent, because the Lycan authority in my gesture compelled his obedience. "I know you loved my mother, I know you saved me when she died, and I know you thought you were protecting me," I continued, and my voice softened slightly because despite everything I understood his motivations. "But your methods were cruel, and they damaged me in ways that can never be fully repaired, so I cannot forgive you even though I understand why you did what you did." "I am sorry," Robert whispered, and the words sounded broken. "Your apology is noted but not accepted," I said formally, and then I turned to address the pack members gathered around us. "I am Jane Moonstone Gregory, daughter of Lycan Queen Lydia and heir to both the Moonstone and Gregory bloodlines, and I claim my birthright as the true Alpha of this pack." The challenge was issued, and pack law required Robert's strongest warriors to defend his position or submit to my claim. Three large wolves stepped forward, and I recognized them as the pack's best fighters, men who had watched me scrub floors and serve food without ever seeing me as more than an omega servant. They shifted into wolf form and attacked simultaneously, and the watching pack gasped because three against one seemed impossibly unfair even if I was Lycan. But I did not shift, did not even move until they were almost on top of me, and then I released just a fraction of my power. The Lycan dominance rolled out from me in a silver wave that froze all three warriors mid-leap, and they crashed to the ground whimpering and unable to move. I walked over to the largest warrior and placed my hand on his head, and I pushed just enough to force his complete submission. "Do you yield," I asked quietly. "Yes, Alpha," he gasped out, and the other two quickly echoed his surrender. I released them and turned back to Robert, who watched with an expression that mixed pride and sorrow in equal measure. He slowly knelt on the pack house steps, baring his throat in the ultimate sign of submission, and his voice was steady when he spoke. "I acknowledge Jane Moonstone Gregory as the true Alpha heir of this pack, and I yield my position to her rightful claim." The pack exploded into chaos as some members cheered and others shouted protests, but my Lycan power settled over them all like a blanket and forced them into silence. I looked at each face, memorizing who showed loyalty and who showed fear, and I made mental notes about which wolves I could trust. Claire stood near the back of the crowd, and our eyes met across the distance. She had gone pale, and I could see panic written clearly across her perfect features as she realized what my return meant for her carefully laid plans. She turned and ran toward the pack house, probably to warn her mother Patricia, and I smiled because I had expected nothing less. "All pack members will gather in the main hall in one hour for a formal announcement," I declared, using my Alpha command to ensure compliance. "Anyone who fails to attend will be considered in defiance of pack law." The crowd dispersed slowly, and Robert remained kneeling on the steps until we were alone. I looked down at him, at this man who had been my father in every way except blood, and I felt the tangled mess of love and betrayal and anger that I could not untangle. "Stand up," I said quietly, and he rose on shaky legs. "I never meant to hurt you," Robert said, and fresh tears tracked down his weathered face. "Your mother made me promise to keep you safe, and hiding your nature was the only way I knew how." "I know, and someday I might be able to forgive you for that," I admitted, because the months of training had taught me that revenge was hollow and forgiveness was strength. "But right now I need you to tell me everything, every detail about my mother's death, every name of the wolves who killed her, and every secret you have been keeping." Robert nodded and gestured toward his office, and we walked inside together to finally uncover the complete truth of my heritage and the enemies who would come for me the moment they learned I still lived. But first, I had a message to send to Matthew Shepherd, because he needed to know that the omega he rejected had returned as something far more dangerous than he ever imagined.
