I didn’t say anything. Just stood up slowly, eyes locked on Malcolm Rutherford, who still sat there with that smug expression carved onto his face like granite. The room was thick with silence. All those men, all their eyes, watching me like wolves circling prey. “I didn’t come here to argue,” I said finally, my voice low and steady. “I came to say something.” Malcolm raised a brow, amused. “Very soon, Lancaster will have a new patriarch. Your best friend.” I took a step toward the door. “And I came here hoping the Rutherford family, a name tied to legacy and power, would join hands with me. To continue the great deeds your family is known for. To help take down the real predators—those who rot this country from the inside out.” I paused at the threshold. “But I guess… I was wrong.”
