The rain fell in sheets, cold and unrelenting, painting the night in silver. I stepped out of the house, the chill hitting me, but I didn’t care. I just stood there on the porch, watching the sky pour everything down like it wanted to drown the world in silence. My thoughts were loud, too loud, and I needed the storm to muffle them. Then—footsteps. Light. Familiar. I turned slightly, and there she was. Delilah. Her hair was damp from the mist, and she had a sweater thrown over her thin pajamas. She didn’t say anything at first.
