Elena sat in silence watching Lucien play chess. Her heart was heavy with the information she had just heard. She had always thought Jason's betrayal was fueled by selfishness. But never had she thought it could be something beyond that— something she hadn't foreseen. How much had he detested her that he had to put her through this?
