Wedding Day

649 Words
The morning sun spilled its golden light across the city, and the air was thick with excitement. Today was the day I had been dreaming about and dreading in equal measure my wedding day. I, Ifeoma, was about to become Ugochukwu’s wife, yet beneath the joy, a storm of anxiety churned inside me. The house was alive with activity. My mother, aunts, and cousins buzzed around, helping me into my wedding gown, fixing my hair, adjusting my veil, and offering words of encouragement. “You look beautiful, my daughter,” my mother said, tears glistening in her eyes. “Ugochukwu is a lucky man.” I forced a smile, my hands trembling slightly as I adjusted the delicate lace around my shoulders. “Thank you, mama,” I whispered. My heart raced with excitement… and fear. Fear of what was to come tonight the night when my secret would either remain hidden or be exposed. The Ceremony The church was decorated with white and gold, the scent of flowers filling the air. Guests filled every seat, smiling, chatting, and taking photographs. My heart skipped a beat as I walked down the aisle, each step bringing me closer to Ugo. And there he was. My husband-to-be. Standing tall, handsome, and impeccably dressed. His eyes met mine, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. In that gaze, I saw love, admiration, and trust. A pang of guilt shot through me. How could I enjoy this moment fully when I carried a secret that could change everything? The ceremony unfolded like a dream. Vows were exchanged, promises were made, and the pastor spoke of love, patience, and faithfulness. Every word felt heavy with meaning, pressing on my heart as a reminder of the truth I was hiding. The First Touch After the ceremony, we posed for photographs, greeted relatives, and attended the reception. Ugo was attentive, kind, and patient with everyone, yet every time his hand brushed mine, I felt a jolt of electricity and a reminder of the wedding night looming ahead. As the reception began, laughter and music filled the air. Guests danced, celebrated, and shared in our joy. I smiled, laughed, and moved among them, but my mind kept wandering to the room I would share with Ugo tonight. Would he notice? Would he care? How would I survive the moment I had feared for so long? A Moment of Intimacy Later that evening, after the festivities had quieted down, Ugo and I found ourselves alone in the bridal suite. The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of lamps reflecting off the silk curtains. My hands shook as I adjusted my dress, my heart pounding in my chest. “You look… stunning,” he said softly, taking my hand in his. His touch was gentle, grounding me in the moment. “Thank you,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. I wanted to say more, to confess my fears, but the words lodged in my throat. He leaned closer, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “Ifeoma… are you okay?” “Yes… I’m fine,” I replied, forcing a calm smile. Inside, I was anything but fine. Foreshadowing the Wedding Night As we prepared to leave the suite for a private moment, I felt my knees weaken. My secret the truth about my inexperience loomed over me like a shadow. I loved him deeply, and I wanted to be the wife he expected, but fear gripped me with icy fingers. Little did I know, the wedding night would test both of us: my courage, his patience, and the strength of the love we had built. The moments ahead would be awkward, tender, and transformative. And in that moment, as I held his hand and looked into his eyes, I realized that no matter what happened tonight, my life was about to change forever.
