Chapter one

769 Words
Joan’s POV It’s my first day in this wack city but I didn’t mind it because it meant I’d be close to mum and her new family. I should feel grateful that she now wants me to be a part of her life even though I have to share her with her new husband , the new husband that was worth changing her life for and not me . I pick up my phone and go to my notes app to check my task for the day “Do hair and massage at 9am , drop off laundry at 11am , go job hunting at 12am, finish my presentation and Submit at 5pm, CALL DAD(very important)” I get off my bed and hop in the shower , needing to scrub away my mixed feelings about my mum and her new “Mason baby” as she likes to calm him , ewww. I turn off the shower , dry and cream my body and change into my simple brown top and old baggy jeans. I do a light makeup, take one last look at my reflection then grab my mini bag and dash out of the room before I change my mind and do a full beat . I arrive at the salon just in time for my apartment and grateful I didn’t run into my mum or her husband while leaving the house . My hair appointment starts , the salon looks really nice and high end but what would I expect if my mum booked it herself , her new husband is loaded so mum basically spends like it’s her calling , I don’t mind , hell if I was married to a rich business tycoon , I’d be top 1shopper in the world The hairdresser is impressed with the fullness of my hair and can’t stop fawning over the length too, we are having a little casual conversation about it then I look in the mirror and my breath catches , there’s two guys looking at me from the back. I’ve had guys stop and stare at me my whole adulthood , in the humblest way I am very pretty They don’t usually make me forget how to breath , then again none of them have ever looked at me with a mixture of fear and passion I wonder how long they’ve been standing there, how long they’ve been looking at me We lock eyes so they know I can see them and still they don’t look away , Infact I look away I’m soo flustered it’s embarrassed I’m soo curious why they’re scared Bryce’s POV I don’t know why I can’t stop looking at her. Scratch that. I know exactly why. She’s gorgeous. Man, she has a doll-like face. “Bro.” I ignore him. “Bryce.” “What?” “You’re staring.” I roll my eyes, but that doesn’t stop me from looking at her again. Fuck. She’s beautiful. I can’t even see her body properly because she’s sitting, but she looks tiny in that chair. Small, delicate, and… “Very carryable, very mine,” my brother mutters beside me. I turn to look at him. “Get out of my head, asshole.” He laughs under his breath, and I realise, with a strange mixture of irritation and disbelief, that he’s looking at her too. Of course he is. Because apparently, being twins means we have to share everything, including our terrible taste in women. Except, looking at her, I can’t imagine anything terrible about her. She’s talking animatedly with Tanya, her hands moving as she speaks, completely unaware of the two idiots watching her from across the room. Then it hits me. Oh, f**k. I know her. She’s Mason’s new wife’s daughter. They look so much alike. I stare at her again, trying to reconcile the information with the fact that I can barely think straight. Mason is going to have my head if he finds out what I’m thinking And judging by the way my brother is looking at her, I’m not the only one who needs to get his head checked. “Tell me you aren’t thinking what I’m thinking,” I mutter. He doesn’t even look at me. “Depends. Are you thinking about how pretty she is, or are you thinking about how much trouble we’re both going to be in if Mason catches us staring?” I look at him. He grins. Fucking bastard. I’m not scared of Mason , but I have no intention of being the reason his new family falls apart.
