7 Charlotte flipped through the pages of the herb guide, eyes darting from the glossy pictures to skim the forest floor. The cooling weather had cleared away most of the green plants, but a few still thrived, and she wanted to know if they were anything helpful. She stepped out of the trees and started to follow a dried section of the creek when she got the sensation she was being watched. Peering around, she sought out any form of life. Instead of a squirrel, she saw Damon a few yards away. Somehow avoiding the crunchy leaves, he made his way to her in silence.
