NOELANI POV
He didn't flinch, as if the pain was nothing and pushed my jaw away from his neck. He clamped my neck with his jaw, lifted me from the ground and threw me across the room. I slammed into a mirror, shattering glass fell on me as I dropped to the floor.
Some broken parts of the mirror pierced my back. I whimpered, staggering on my paws as the wound healed immediately. My ears perked up, and I shook the glass that fell on my fur. This time Lana screamed in my head to stop and I ignored her. I had, had it with my mate. He stood across the living room, his wolf towered over mine, which made the living room seem small, but it wasn't.
This time he tried mind-linking me, but I blocked him. Snapping menacingly at him.
We went round in circles gnarling and snapping at each other. He tried mind-linking again, and I still blocked him because his voice would weaken me to submit, and I didn't want that. I lunged at him, but he blocked it, causing me to hit the wall. I groaned, shaking my body like it would ease the pain and bounced back to my feet.
‘Noelani stop!’ he finally broke through the barrier.
I almost moaned at the way he said my name even though his words were laced with command and anger. The mate bond was so provocative.
Refusing to submit, I lunged at him again and again, subduing his voice as it became louder and louder in the head. He blocked every one of my attacks with precision without striking back anymore. He was infuriatingly calm and it was maddening.
Right into my next attack, he shifted into his human form. He stood before me naked, his skin gleaming with sweat and a maddeningly composed expression. Casually lifting me as though I weighed nothing and threw me over his shoulder. I thrashed in his grip snarling, my claws raking his back. But he didn’t flinch, casually striding up the stairs and into the hallway as if my attacks were nothing more than a tantrum.
‘Enough, now,’ his voice was low, heavy with boredom.
I whimpered, his voice was doing it again. When we reached my room, he didn’t hesitate to throw me in. I crashed against the floor and I heard the door slam shut as it echoed across the room. He was gone.
Only then did my fury subside and my breathing slowed. I shifted back to my human form, my body shaking with exhaustion. Ragnar’s scent lingered in the room and on my skin. I became stunned by the fight I had with Ragnar, which frightened me. Not only is he my mate, he is an alpha, not just any alpha. Where did I get the strength from? A while ago, I found it tough to shift to my wolf form. Minutes later I was lunging at Ragnar. What has gotten over me?
I curled myself tightly on the cold tiled floor naked, reminiscing. In a trice, my ears picked up a pair of footsteps coming down the hallway and stopped right at my door, unlocking it.
My senses had sharpened greatly since I shifted. The scent wasn’t familiar, so I scrambled up and slipped on my nightwear, then slid under the bed, masking my scent. My heart pounded hard against my chest.
‘You just attacked an alpha, and now you’re hiding?’ Lana scoffed inside my head.
‘Me? You attacked him first. I’m not hiding, I’m just...preparing.’
‘Preparing?’ she let out a mocking laugh. ‘If you say so.’
The door creaked open, and an unfamiliar head peeked into the room. His amber eyes surveyed the room.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, as he stepped inside. “I know you’re under the bed.”
His shoes stopped meters away from my bed, then his hands came into view before I saw his smiling face. Strands of dark hair fell onto his face. His hands supported his head as he lay on the floor. The aura he was emitting wasn’t that of an ordinary wolf but someone with rank.
I slid out from under the bed, dusting off my clothes, before lifting my chin. I turned to look at him through the sides of my eyes, cautious.
“Ragnar sent you, didn’t he?” I folded my arms across my chest, waiting for his response.
“I’ve never seen a living room left in such a disaster,” he tsked, pushing himself back to his feet. "By the way, my name is Kendrick. And you are?” he extended his hand for a handshake.
I glared at him, then his hands, before reluctantly stretching my hand to take his.
“Noelani,” I responded, pulling my hands immediately away from his. “State your purpose here.”
He only shrugged. “Nothing, I just came to visit,” with that, he walked across the room to the sofa. “You don’t mind if I sit? I just got back from a far journey,” he smiled, sitting on it.
Something about his smile unsettled me; it was too genuine. Still, the unease within me eased slightly so I sat down on the edge of my bed, far away from him.
“You still haven’t stated why you’re here”, I stared at him blankly. “Ragnar sent you?”
“First name basis I see,” his brows lifted, intrigued. “You’re not just anyone to Alpha Ragnar, are you? And surely not his relative.”
“You’re avoiding the questions again.” I rolled my eyes.
Kendrick leaned back onto the sofa. “Ragnar doesn’t know I’m here, and it’s best you don’t speak of my presence to anyone.” he smiled, but beneath his smile held a warning. “If you heed, I’ll assure you an escape, or even better announce to the park that you’re the Luna.”
