CHAPTER ELEVEN

1614 Words
NEOLANI POV “You said you were going to bring Hannah.” I said to Kendrick when I popped my head from the room searching behind him but couldn't see her. “I wish I could. Hannah can't come because Ragnar tends to spend time with her and if she's not available he'd search for her.” Kendrick rolled his eyes. “Now imagine if she was here.” He said as he closed the door shut behind him. “Did you tell her about Ragnar’s feelings?” “Yes I did, as soon as I went to the pack house yesterday.” He sat on the sofa, flipping through the pages of a book I begged Ivana to help me get from the library to get rid of boredom. “There's a pack house?” I asked, shocked. He stared blankly at me. “Of course there is.” “Oh, it's just that we didn't have one back in the Crescent Moon pack. My father made sure everyone had their respective homes. He said it was to avoid conflict.” "Coming to think of it, I didn't notice. The last time I went to your pack I was still a teenager,” he scratched the back of his head. “Now you know the reason, I asked.” I chuckled. “Wait…what are you here for again?” I asked frowning. “Nothing. Hannah said I should come on her behalf, to keep you company,” he said with a casual shrug. “Someone that listens to their mate and cares for them, unlike mine.” I rolled my eyes as Kendrick chuckled. “When does he plan on announcing? It's been….how long now?” I looked at Kendrick for an answer. “6 days since he told me.” “I need to leave here, this door keeps zapping my energy,” I threw my arms up in the air and groaned. “Someone is impatient.” “That's not true. I've been here for like a month plus, or so….a month plus!” I sat on the edge of my bed swinging my legs. “The living room is back in shape, if you care to know.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Like that information is of any importance.” “I asked him how it happened, and he said he had a fight with his wolf.” Kendrick's famous grin returned. “Coward…of course he would–” Kendrick abruptly rose from where he was seated on the sofa. “I sense Ragnar.” I sniffed the air, but couldn't smell not sense him. “How do you know?” “I have strong senses, Neolani. I'm a beta.” He stopped in the middle of the room. “Be quiet,” he whispered, placing his index finger over his lips. Immediately I sensed Ragnar, my heart slammed hard against my chest and my tummy churned. If he finds out, it could be the end for me, or most importantly Kendrick. “Go and hide in the toilet,” I pushed him into the bathroom. “I can't hide my scent from Ragnar for too long.” He whispered through the toilet door. “End the conversation as soon as possible.” I heavily sprayed my rose and lavender perfume in the room before I jumped to my bed, and quickly wrapped the duvet around me. The door creaked open. “You still aren't up?” Ragnar questioned . I couldn't bring myself to answer as I tightened my eyes closed. “I know you aren't sleeping, I heard your footsteps.” Slowly I lifted the duvet from my face. “A lady can't walk around in her room and decide to sleep seconds later?” He stood in the middle of the room silent as always. “Good. Be quiet, I want to sleep.” I covered my head with the duvet again. “Asides the maid…” Sudden heat rushed through my body, I figured the next question he was going to ask. I quickly sat up on my bed. “What? Why are you even here?” He looked away from me and sniffed the air. “Roses…lavender…something is not right.” “Exactly, because you're here to see me, which is quite odd.” I climbed out of the bed and stood in his front. “Except you miss me.” “Nonsense, why would I?” He stepped back, away from me. “Why are you here then?” I crossed my arms against my chest. “A question for a question I asked.” “Touché….that's what you always do, I learn from the best.” I said with a smirk. He scowled. “Can I be left alone as always? In fact, you shouldn't be coming to my room unannounced." “Because you are?” He scoffed, looking down at me. “Your mate…Ragnar,” I said it just to agitate him so he would leave my room. “And I have the authority over my room.” I stepped closer to him, deliberately invading his space. “If you miss me that much, why don't you let me out? We could see each other every day.” I grinned. A grim expression settled on his face. “I have nothing to say to you.” He walked away towards the door. “Right! Say it to Hannah," he paused before his gloved hands could reach the door knob. I blinked. I had no idea how or why Hannah's name slipped out of my mouth. “What did you just say?” He turned and glared at me. I forced a casual shrug. “What? Hannah?” He glared at me harder like I had struck a nerve. “What–” “Why are you being so sensitive?” I pressed, my voice deliberately mocking in order to ick him. Although I didn't understand why I was doing this. I thought I made his business with Hannah not my concern. Ragnar's eyes flashed with anger. “Neolani, you're pushing it.” I tilted my head. “Does she even like you to begin with? Who knows she could reject you like you did to me when I accepted you as my mate.” I said, more cruel than I'm meant to be. He let out a thundering growl that vibrated through the walls of the room. Suddenly, I was pinned down on the bed, his hand wrapped around my throat pressing hard, while the other, his claws tore through the gloves. My chest heaved as I tapped his hand abruptly. “Let go of me,” I muttered the last words. “Don't you ever mention her name again.” He said through his gritted teeth, every word vibrating with fury. He let go of my neck and I scurried away from him, coughing and gasping for air. “Why do…do you even…like her that much?” Still I had the gut to ask. “It's not like she's your mate.” My voice was hoarse. “I should have been done with you the day I met you.” His eyes flickered with something darker and menace. “Well you should have,” I gasped heavily. “Because then you won't have a thorn in your ass like me!” I screamed at him. I touched my throbbing neck, and it felt warm against my touch. “Come on, strangle me more!” I spat, staggering as I tried to climb out of my bed. “Take my life damn it.” His voice dropped to a dangerous growl. “Seat back down, Neolani. Now.” He commanded. A shiver ran down my spine, but I shrugged it off. The threat was deafening, but it wasn't as bad as trying to strangle his mate to death. “No!” I shot back. “All you do is command me to stay in place and keep put, threatening me with death. Do you plan to lock me up here forever?” I mustered the courage and got up to face him. “You knew what you were doing when you purposely made this damned silver door!” I pointed towards the door as my vision began to blur with tears. I drew in a shaky breath, to steady myself. Not everyone knew the impact of silver on us, aside from the fact that it could kill us in minutes. Only the educated ones among us had such knowledge, especially people in power. I wouldn't want him to suspect anything or to give Kendrick away. “Please leave,” I said, still pointing at the door. Ragnar's gaze narrowed. “How do you know that? I suspected something was off about yo–” “I don't wish to talk to you anymore,” I climbed back into my bed and yanked the duvet over my head, wiping the tears that flowed down my cheeks with the bedsheets. He didn't say anything else, but the thundering of his feet and slammed door that followed signified he had left. “You sure have a gut,” Kendrick's voice came, it was almost like he was happy about it. “You are really going to be a thorn in his ass.” He scoffed. When he didn't hear me answer, he patted my shoulder. “Sorry you are going through this, I'll try to see what he's up to and what day he plans on announcing.” His voice was softer without mischief and I just nodded silently under the duvet.
