Chapter Ten

886 Words
Lloyd. I sit on the sofa for a very long time, just thinking through what happened today. It is almost too much to comprehend, I lean back and stare up at the ceiling with the hope that everything will start to make sense to me. Scott is dead. And Leila Taylor is a vampire hunter. Her brother, Riley, killed my brother. I think a typical vampire would just go over to Riley’s house and snap his neck, or drink his blood. But I wasn't in the mood for it. I knew that if I went another week without blood then my body would begin to shut down. But with the whole animal attack thing still a threat, there wasn't anything I could do about it. It’s either animal blood or starvation, but animal blood is the equivalent of a human being trying to eat a bowl of celery. Yuck. Baelen wants to put an end to Leila's family for what they did to Scott, but I think that we might be able to offer them help. Help them to run. We have been on the run for years, going to different places and exploring. Our experience could help them. Yes I'm mad at them, But they were just doing what they thought was right. I have begun to grow rather fond of Leila Taylor. I guess if I want her to forgive me, I'll have to forgive her. And then a knock comes at the door, I finally get up and look through the spy hole to find a brunette haired girl standing outside holding a bag. Leila. I open the door and she opens up the bag to reveal a blood bag. "Hi!" She says, handing me the blood bag. "Err... What's this?" I ask, looking down at the bag she placed in my bag. "One of the best things about being a hunter, I can tell you're extremely hungry, both you and Baelen. I didn't know whether you feed from people or not, so I quickly went to the hospital before I came here. Don't tell anyone." She says and winks at me. "You know,” I lean against the door frame, “the last time I saw you. We were in the woods and I found out you're a vampire hunter and you discovered I'm a vampire. You stormed off and I nearly bit you. You're being all chummy why?" I ask as I pull off the blood bag’s cap. I take a sip. It was nice, but too dry. Not the usual sweetness you get from blood from the vein. But I am so hungry, and once the blood hits my system I cannot stop. I finish the bag within seconds. "Wow.” Leila breaks the silence, if I were less hungry I would have drunk that somewhere else. “I figured if my parents found out about you, they'd kinda kill you. So it's better that I help you and get your thirst back under control. Because I don't want you to die." She said sympathetically whilst handing me another bag. “Come in.” I tell her. "How many of these did you take?" I take the blood bag from her, taking the cap off and drinking it again. "Only 3, I didn't think you would be hungry enough to drink them all." She replied, eyes wide open as I finish another bag. 45 minutes pass, the blood bags are long gone, but I was still hungry. I was sitting on the edge of my seat tapping my leg up and down, humming to myself quietly as an attempt to take my mind off of it. "Are you okay?" Leila asked, putting her hand on top of mine. "I'm fine." I said flatly, not looking her in the eye. "You're still hungry." She says immediately. “I’m not good at hiding it, am I?” I chuckle. "Not really." She laughs, tucking her hair behind her ear. "You know, you could try having some of my blood?" She says shyly. "I can't do that." I shake my head and look at her.”I’m only acting this way because I’ve fed and want more, I don’t actually need it.” “When did you last feed?” She asks me. “A few weeks ago. We can go a lot time without any blood, it stays in our system for a while.” I respond to her. “Yeah. Well you definitely need more blood then, surely? Three weeks is a long time…” I glance over at her, and our eyes meet. She gives me a small smile, she knows she is right. Leila gets up and sits down next to me, I watch her move. And I watch as she pulls up her sleeve, revealing those pretty blue veins that lay underneath her smooth skin. "I trust you." She tells me as she moves her arm close to my lips. I resist at first, I can’t even look at her because I am so ashamed for wanting to bite into her. Her hand rests on my head, slowly stroking my hair. My eyes slowly shut, she wants me to do this.
