Chapter 13: The Dark Side of the Moon

As I stood there, luxuriating in the gleam of my newly discovered powers, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Elijah's eyes appeared to be shining with an otherworldly concentrated, and I might sense a dull vitality radiating from him. "What's going on, Elijah?" I inquired, attempting to keep my voice steady. Elijah's grin was charming, but it didn't very reach his eyes. "Nothing's going on, Aurora," he said. "You're fair encountering the repercussions of the custom. It's normal." But I knew that something was off-base. I might feel it in my bones. As we cleared out the lunar sanctuary, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being observed. The shadows appeared to be moving of their claim agreement, turning and writhing like living things. "Elijah, what's going on?" I inquired once more, my voice scarcely over a whisper. Elijah's eyes flashed with outrage, but he rapidly composed himself. "I told you, Aurora, nothing's going on. You're fair being paranoid." But I knew that I wasn't being neurotic. I might sense the haziness gathering around us, seem feel the weight of the lunar powers bearing down upon me. And at that point, fair as we were drawing closer the royal residence, I saw it. A figure, hiding in the shadows. Observing us. "Elijah, see!" I whispered, pulling on his arm. But when Elijah turned to see, the figure was gone. "I didn't see anything," Elijah said, his voice dismissive. But I knew what I saw. And I knew that I wasn't envisioning things. As we entered the royal residence, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being grouped towards a few obscure destiny. The haziness was closing in around us, and I didn't know how to elude.
