Cracked Emotions

1338 Words

The sound of an approaching siren pierced the air, drowning the sound of Gerald’s fast-beating heartbeat. He tried his best to remain calm and took another glance at the woman who was now laying in front of him. He had carried her off the road and onto the sidewalk, doing what he could to stop the bleeding which poured down from a fresh wound on her head. She lay still with her eyes closed, her chest rising and falling slowly. The sight overwhelmed him with a swirl of emotions. What the hell just happened? The flashing lights of an ambulance came into view, and the paramedics quickly sprung into action. They rushed past the small crowd of people who had surrounded the scene and hurriedly but gently lifted the woman as soon as they got to her, loading her into the back of their vehicle.
